"Natural Real-Time Translation, with a Few Technical Hiccups"
4/5
What do you like best about RingRing.NOW?

I like how RingRing.NOW keeps conversations feeling natural when everyone speaks a different language. It translates speech out loud in real time while keeping each person’s voice recognizable, so I can stay focused on the conversation, keep eye contact, and share my screen without stopping to read captions. I also appreciate that everyone can hear the translation in their own language, even when several language groups are on the same call. We can jump into impromptu calls without booking interpreters, which saves us planning time and makes cross-border meetings less stressful. Just a couple months ago, we got an urgent alert from our overseas broadcast hardware supplier, Mediatech Global. One of our custom signal rack shipments was running behind schedule, and they needed to walk us through a revised production timeline right away. Normally we’d have to wait days to lock in an interpreter, but we hopped straight into a RingRing.NOW video call. Their engineering lead spoke in his native language, our studio team spoke English, and the translated audio preserved his voice. We pulled up our wiring schematics on screen share, pointed out the parts we needed prioritized, and talked through the delay without staring at scrolling captions. It felt just like a normal video check-in, and we locked in the adjusted delivery window in under twenty minutes. The browser-based setup and simple invite links were a big win for our team, and we didn’t need desktop installs or special server setup. Our studio workstations are locked down tight by IT, so pushing heavy software to every machine is always a hassle. We just send out a quick link, and people join right from Chrome. It’s really handy for our fast-moving broadcast workflow, where emergencies pop up constantly and we don’t have hours to prep for international calls. This tool takes away the huge weight of interpreter scheduling, and the voice-preserved translation keeps the tone and context intact, so we don’t misread what our partners are telling us. What do you dislike about RingRing.NOW?

I’ve found that RingRing.NOW can struggle with niche broadcast terminology, and I wish I could add custom vocabulary lists so it recognized those terms consistently. Translation can lag by a second or two when someone speaks quickly or uses a longer sentence, which throws off the conversation’s rhythm. Screen sharing has also had occasional hiccups: a shared screen froze briefly and the translated voice cut out for a few seconds, so I had to send a separate file link and follow up by email. Last month, we hopped on a call with our remote signal integration partner to review a new SDI signal converter build. When they mentioned terms like “frame sync delay” and “genlock alignment”, the translation mixed those technical phrases up completely. We had to pause repeatedly to clarify what they meant, which dragged the meeting out and almost made us sign off on the wrong configuration. That was a close call that would’ve created major issues for our live broadcast feeds. The default access settings were pretty open, and setting up custom permission groups took a little while. Rolling it out to the broader team also took extra testing and a short demo. Our producers and studio technicians don’t work with translation tools often, so I had to walk them through best practices, like speaking slowly and avoiding run-on sentences. We copy call notes and file links manually into Nutshell and Dropbox afterward because we don’t have anyone dedicated to API work, which adds an extra step after each call. It would be awesome if they built a custom term dictionary and tightened up screen sharing stability for our technical schematic reviews. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
