Railinc is THE source for rail tracking data and since its kind-of a monopoly, once you have it you have equal data to all others in industry. It has been reliable. Ocean carriers use it for data they provide to their clients but there are different tiers of data so you can get more directly from Railinc than you get from ocean lines. Being a monopoly they seem to be less innovative. They seem to be content to provide the data they have and that is all (at least as far as container tracing info). Much of the data is abbreviated or in code such as locations which would be nice if it could be fully spelled out not codified. Sometimes statuses are too general and information about bad order rail cars is absent. You get status only but no estimate of repair or anything useful. This generates questions but does not offer answers. I do not use any other application beyond trail tracing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
