## About Progress Sitefinity
Progress Sitefinity is a cloud-first content management system (CMS) and digital experience platform (DXP) used to build, manage and personalize websites, portals and other digital properties. It is adopted by mid-market and enterprise organisations that operate multi-site, multilingual or regulated digital estates and need to balance marketing autonomy with IT governance and developer flexibility. Sitefinity supports marketing, development and IT teams through a shared platform model with role-appropriate tools and permissions. Key capabilities include: - Multisite, multilingual and multi-brand management with governance controls and workflows - Native customer data platform (Sitefinity Insight) for segmentation, analytics and personalization - 1,000+ prebuilt connectors and open APIs, Sitefinity Cloud platform integrates with your MarTech stack, CRM and enterprise systems in hours—not weeks - Extensibility using .NET and ASP.NET Core for custom development and composable architectures Sitefinity also incorporates generative and retrieval-augmented capabilities through Progress® Agentic RAG, enabling dynamic assembly of experiences from approved content to reduce manual production work while maintaining accuracy, compliance and brand standards. Additional operational benefits and deployment considerations: - Standardization and consolidation of CMS estates across business units or regions - Support for marketing, development and IT workflows without requiring a headless-only approach - Structured content for regulated or high-volume publishing environments - Deployment on-premises or as a managed cloud service on Microsoft Azure, reducing maintenance and providing security, scaling and compliance

## Progress Sitefinity Reviews
  ### 1. An application with far too many revisions in too small a time-frame

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terri G. | Digital Project Manager, Entertainment, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Who wouldn't like a robust CMS? With a plethora of templates and features, this tool has a lot to offer. For users who don't need to overhaul a template, or like our case... modify Master Pages, this tool should suffice. However, if you are required to go down that rabbit hole, be prepared to deal with poorly organized CSS content and a convoluted mess of templates and dependent files.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

With the exhaustive revision cycle, this application churns out entirely new version numbers 2-3 times per year. Our somewhat basic site was left in the stone-age (version 3.4) in 3 years. Revisiting it for updates, we were forced to either set up and entirely new server to migrate the site up to version 9.x or just move it to our own server for hosting and drop the CMS entirely.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

If you are working within the constraints of the tool, you'll likely not have problems. Also, whether you're actively updating content or not, stay on top of CMS version changes or you'll rapid be left out to dry when the CMS begins to fail.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The larger portion of our organization wanted a simple solution to hosting and updating their website, so this tool was chosen as the home for that site. This tool was initially chosen so we could build out the base site and hand it back for others to make updates, however, those changes always ended up being done by a developer due to tweaks frequently needed on master pages.

**Official Response from Kelsey Schuering:**

> Hi Terri - thank you for providing us with feedback. We take comments very seriously and use them to help us improve in the future. I'm sorry to hear you may not be enjoying your experience with us. I'd love to assist you in having a more enjoyable experience. If you're interested, please reach out to me via email at kschueri@progress.com  to discuss. Have a great day!

Thanks,
Kelsey Schuering, Progress Software

  ### 2. Flexible CMS geared toward mid-level to enterprise sized organizations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve C. | Digital Marketing Manager, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The best part feature of Sitefinity is its flexibility. You can do nearly anything with widgets, either by modifying included code or by creating your own.

The code base is also fairly straightforward meaning you can use C# throughout without needing to learn a large bit of a custom language.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

On the opposite side of the coin, because it's so flexible, there isn't a lot out of the box that you'll use without at least some customization. Doing so means working with developers because there isn't a ton that can be customized in the front-end.

Another downside is that Sitefinity isn't lightweight, though I suppose you could say that's expected in a CMS positioned for mid to enterprise level customers. A strong infrastructure is a requirement to run Sitefinity at its full potential.

The biggest flaw with Sitefinity is the bugs. They've done much to improve this over the years, but if you read their support forums you'll see a number of customers run into the same issues, and there isn't a ton of support from Sitefinity to resolve them. A Sitefinity rep may reply, but it's typically to say its a known bug, or to provide a simple fix that doesn't actually resolve the problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Know it's likely that you're going to need to customize a large bit of Sitefinity to meet your needs.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefit of Sitefinity to us is that it provides our organization with a CMS that a large part of our company can use, whether they have deep coding knowledge or not.

  ### 3. Sitefinity review from a developer

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hristina T. | Software Consultant, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

There are lots of controls provided by Sitefinity CMS, which can be useful to you if you're developing your amateur website, for example - a website with cooking recipes, or one where you show your pets to the community, or just your personal blog.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

The customization of any of the Sitefinity default widgets is a very unpleasant experience. I can give you a good number of examples. The one issue that took me the most time to resolve is customizing the contact form widget. You can use the provided widget only if you want the customer to give you his/her basic contact info written in a text field. Everything else behaves in an unexpected way (a more detailed example - the file upload field works only with web forms, but not with MVC, and we have to agree that MVC is what most of the clients want). There are plenty other issues but I won't go into detail about them unless you want to hear about them.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Do not use it if you want to have many customizations. If your intention is to have a non-professional website, then go ahead. It provides a nice drag-and-drop opportunity which will be useful to you if you're not an experienced .NET programmer.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been migrating our company's corporate website from WordPress to Sitefinity. The benefits are supposed to be experienced by our HR team because of the "easily controlled" back end environment.

**Official Response from Kelsey Schuering:**

> Hi Hristina - thank you for providing us with feedback. We take your comments very seriously and will use them to help us improve in the future.

  ### 4. Amazing CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anuj A. | Software Dev Sr. Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Accessibility and usability. Page creation and managing the content is very easy even for non-IT personnel .
This CMS enables various personnel - not just the tech-savvy people - to add and manage content. For example, someone who writes for the company blog can simply access the CMS, write and edit their blog post, maybe add an image or two and publish it without having to, say, submit work to the web designer or developer and wait for them to add it to the site.

As from Developer perspective, I am a big fan of Fluent APIs which Sitefinity offers.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

We discovered many problems with Sync architecture and reported to Telerik. Sitefinity Sync Logs are misleading. Also, External URLs are not going off to Sync list. Environment instability caused by site sync.Captcha Image Issue with Load Balanced Environment. These are some of the major aspects which i don't like.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Yes, you can definitely rely on it but please consider it's Syncing before go ahead. On load balanced/ multisite environment we faced many problems.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need a super easy, cost effective, reliable CMS which also should be blazing fast when it comes to web page load for end-user. We found Sitefinity to address these all problems and help achieve these business goals.

  ### 5. A Great Answer For Content Managers That Want to Manage Their Own Content

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brett W. | Senior Consultant and Sitefinity Lead, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

As a developer, some of the most boring tasks when it comes to developing websites is making content changes such as updating photos and changing copy. CMS's solve this problem by taking these changes out of developer hand's and give the power back to content managers. Many CMS's while attempting this try and fail and developers end up making the changes anyway. Not with Sitefinity, it has easiest UI for content managers to change. Drag and Drop controls and rich text editing have never been easier.

For developers, it also takes a lot of SCUT work out of making changes and lets them get back to more interesting problems. I've not run into a problem I have not been able to solve with Sitefinity yet.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

The biggest thing I dislike about Sitefinity is the price. It's clearly not meant for smaller businesses which has priced many of my clients out of the market. Another negative for me is that the product's base is Web Forms. However, they have made some headway into the MVC space, it still not a purely MVC product.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

If your primary content managers are non-technical Content Managers, then Sitefinity is for you. If your primary content managers are very technical like a developer another CMS may be up your alley.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most of the problems I solve with Sitefinity are content related. Most of my clients have issues maintaining their own content and Sitefinity has solved that problem for them. I have done other projects that involved an active web community. This allowed the business to interact with customers and allowed customers to share their ideas and thoughts.

  ### 6. Great CMS and Intuitive Design Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juan G. | Marketing Manager, Small Business, Information Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The UX is very intuitive for making changes quickly, but it also allows more technical users access to the html, CSS and scripts if there are any changes required on that end.

Creating new templates and having them set up for mobile responsiveness is also standard.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Some customization is required if you plan on using a payment or log-in wall. There is no clean way to house those in the CMS.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

They offer a test environment to try it out on your current build. A great option if you want to "try before you buy." Also if you plan on moving forward with them they have end-to-end integration services available.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For my job it solves managing thousands of pages of content and a library of images, css and script files.

The tool allows me to make all the changes I need that in previous versions would require reaching out to my development team or IT which always added delays. The tool allows more control for design and optimization without having to reach out to IT for normal day-to-day operations.

  ### 7. Sitefinity is perfect if you have a good partner in your implementation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt D. | CEO, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The best thing about Sitefinity is that it is flexible. You can develop and create about anything you would ever need in this platform. We're able to manage our web properties much more efficiently now.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

There is a very limited content ecosystem in terms of templates and out of the box templates aren't useful. But, with a good developer and designer you can create really amazing templates for yourself, and make a lot of pretty nifty magic happen.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

If you have a good developer team, or a good implementation partner, Sitefinity will be an amazing product for you. You'll have to plan more in terms of creating templates etc. than you would in a Wordpress environment where there is a rich ecosystem, but you have infinitely more opportunities to develop something that works the way you need it to.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to maintain a centralized CMS for our family of websites and Sitefinity provides the flexibiity we need to be able to do that. We are able to create different templates for different properties. Web updates are faster, and all sites are centralized on a single platform. Not as easy to use as say, a wordpress, but really deep customization options as an ASP.NET product.

  ### 8. Sitefinity - A Comprehensive ASP.NET CMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Performing Arts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity worked with our existing stack and the Telerik tools we were already using.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Implementation was more challenging than expected and wasn't as intuitive as we thought it was going to be.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

We've decided to go with Sitefinity to relieve some burden from our IT team, but didn't appropriately budget the amount of implementation time we'd need and have yet to fully switch over.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitefinity is the CMS we are implementing to manage our website and to delegate access to editors that don't have the coding skills our IT team does.

  ### 9. Powerful, flexible and enjoyable to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Performing Arts | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

It has an enormous amount of capabilities and flexibility in getting content on the website.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

There are a handful of relatively simple/basic features that I would think would be implemented out of the box but they don't exist and require custom work to implement. Specifically some functionality with forms including email confirmation messages to the users who submit a form.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Definitely take a look.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our primary website is a ticket sales path. We've integrated functionality with our back-end database and Sitefinity. It's proven to be a good combination.

  ### 10. Extremely configurable and great ease of use for editors

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Extremely configurable and customizable -- we haven't hit any requirements that we have not been able to satisfy with the solution.
Very broad and deep functionality of product. eg a rich security model, task scheduler, email list integration, etc
Ease of use for web editors means non-technical users are able to maintain their content

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Patching / upgrading is tedious and time consuming, with a moderate degree of risk; therefore we only do it annually and miss out on potential features and fixes.
While developing, the spin-up time of the application is quite slow, so small changes take minutes instead of seconds to validate.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

The strength of Sitefinity is in its customizability. This, however, requires strong technical expertise, including programming in ASP.Net. It is well suited to be used as-is out of the box by relatively non-technical people; however if it is to be customized, it should be done with a knowledgeable third-party vendor or a strong in-house team.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provide a corporate CMS solution that can meet internal clients' needs, and is easy to use by largely non-technical staff.

We have been able to integrate numerous standalone solutions into one standard solution that can be maintained and upgraded more efficiently.

  ### 11. Progress SiteFinity key to our success!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacqui S. | eBusiness Solutions Manager, Utilities, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The ease in which our customers can utilize the product and how easy it is to make changes to our environment. The system is easy to manage and we are able to keep our environments secure.

Implementation and management of the system was beneficial as we were able to manage and maintain the system with 2 people.

Our relationship manager at SiteFinity was extremely helpful and supported us through our transition.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

There are some things that would help us even more within the product itself but we submit those to SiteFinity for review and they are very open and responsive to our suggestions.

It's very rare that we work with the help desk but we have had about 2 instances where we took longer then expected to resolve the issue we were experiencing. This was resolved through working with our relationship manager and the manager of the technical support team (help desk)

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Work with your product manager they are very helpful and can assist you with a lot of resources to help make sound business decisions.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduction in the number of help tickets submitted by customers because they are able to manage their own content.
Reduction in the amount of code we need to maintain because SiteFinity assists with providing tools that keeps code to the minimum.
The cost for what you get is reasonable and extremely competitive.

  ### 12. Great product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Very easy to learn and use. Good resources to figure new things out as well.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Nothing, really. It's an easy to use product that suits our needs!

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use for content managers

  ### 13. Excellent CMS with easy to use UI for both developers and end users.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nidhi A. | User Experience and Web Developer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

That the CMS is extremely user friendly and that it is very extendible. There are a lot of features available out of the box that require very little setup to get them working like blogs, events, ecommerce; and the entire product is easily customisable and extendible to fit the need of any business.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

There's nothing that I dislike really. Of course the product has its short comings but which product doesn't.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Sitefinity to provide simple solutions like giving our clients a web presence, as well as extremely complex applications where our clients use their Sitefinity site for their public appearance and also as an intranet site for their employees only. Having everything managed from within one back-end interface has been extremely beneficial for our clients and the interface is really easy to use which in turn makes them edit and publish content more quickly.

  ### 14. Sitefinity Flexability

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darrin R. | Director, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

What I like about Sitefinity is the freedom, flexibility and control I have to cerate custom modules and widgets to make content managers experience easy.

This ability also allows me to show how the platform can be extended from just displaying a website but to actually running the business.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

The platform can have a big start up time and upgrade process across environments are improving.

The system lacks the support for a distributed cache would reduce local server resource requirements. Especially in large deployments.

No small business license.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

The development, build and deployment process makes the biggest difference to working with the product. If you get this right then the improvements and management of the implementation is far greater experience.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Sitefinity I have been able to move sites from being advertising or brochure sites of the company to functional management sites of the business.

  ### 15. Sitefinity allows us to do almost everything we want.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clifford W. | Lead Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The way Sitefinity is implemented at my company, it gives us the flexibility to create site and pages the way they are designed, and to easily manage them.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

I have experienced a few bugs, that I am unsure if they are because of sitefinity or because of how it was set up on our servers, but I have found work arounds.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This CMS allows us to create and maintain robust websites, while giving us the flexibility to implement code vs using the WYSIWYG editor

  ### 16. Best CMS Out There

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tammy K. | Business Development Manager, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Drag and Drop Functionality for non programmers.
Re-useable widgets and modules
Ease of modifying SEO
granular user permissions

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Mobile Rules are not all that friendly to set by non programmers
Cost for Canadian customers due to exchange rate is not cost effective for most Canadian businesses
Multi site environments don't work together smoothly, nor does the sync process.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Make sure you have enough and the right internal resources to implement this software. Training and learning time will be critical in the first few weeks but after that you'll be flying.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitefinity is for growing businesses that require a lot of flexibility and have internal resources who are demanding more access and permissions to modify their own web content. This takes pressure off IT Depts and helps Communications depts get their messages out quickly,

  ### 17. Sitefinity -- works nicely

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan J. | Web Developer, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Great extensibility -- allows us to create components using standard .NET, and the users can drag and drop those components on any page they choose. The MVC flavor allows us to customize the HTML without it adding a bunch of extra code. Great permissions / user setup. Inline editing is nice. The Multi-site component allows us to spin up a new website in a matter of minutes.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Upgrading to a new version tends to be a crapshoot -- sometimes it works great, sometimes it introduces issues that take a few days to fix. The initial load screen on an app refresh is painfully slow.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Stay with the MVC flavor.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Standard CMS stuff -- how to have users create web pages while still maintaining a common look and feel, and introducing custom code inside the CMS.

  ### 18. Sitefinity Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike W. | IT Manager, International Trade and Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The site is fairly easy to interact with and maintain. The controls make sense, the interface is fairly intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sometimes speed is an issue, particularly when you have to drill down to an edit form that is buried in subfolders, then under the edit screen, then under the edit form in that edit screen. More direct access would be nice, with a faster interaction (though this might be related to equipment limitations rather than the software).

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitefinity replaced our old CMS, which was difficult to use and had an extremely outdated interface. While we aren't using many of the bells and whistles of Sitefinity, we are able to manage our site pages, and to interface with both Sitefinity and our CRM solution for a more interactive experience on our site.

  ### 19. Great product with lots of features and easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Professional Training & Coaching | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I like that it's packed with features, but the system is still easy enough for the average user.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Performance has been a little lackluster in the past, but seems to have improved with recent releases. Support has not been able to resolve all issues.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Sitefinity software allowed us to consolidate several other platforms into one and provided us a platform to quickly create a new highly customizable marketing site to drive revenue.

  ### 20. Sitefinity CMS - easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joyce H. | Network Support Specialist, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity is perfect for those who don't have experience in web development or content management for websites. It is easy to use and most people are able to maintain their webpages without any help from a developer.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

There have been times that we have experienced issues with documents in the documents repository. If a new document has the same name as the old one, once you sync content, the new one sometimes is not the one you are viewing after the sync. Almost like the CMS is confused about which version to use.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SME have the ability to write their own content solving content writer issues. With the approval process in place this makes life much simpler by not having a few people responsible for all the changes.

  ### 21. Robust CMS to handle all your web management needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Menderes D. | Lead Sitecore Webdeveloper, Insurance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Since 3.7 i'm familiar with this CMS and have watched it grow as a developer. Sitefinity offers the right tools to build a website, and has great features for content management. Editing content was never this simple with drag & drop widgets and customizable page layouts.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Between versions 4 through 8, many subversions were released. These were not always bug free. After an upgrade it was quite annoying to find functionality that did not work as expected. I have not experienced this with the current version (9).

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing content can be an obstacle to users. A content management system can be complex and / or limited in features. Sitefinity offers a lot for backend users, so that everything from content to marketing can be organized within one system.

  ### 22. Excellent product!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vishal A. | Delivery Lead, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Best is the sharepoint like content type management. Merging it with MVC support makes it really easy to design application. Easy for administrator to do data entry. It took really less time to pick up Sitefinity CMS for development and everyone enjoyed building such a massive site like Astronics.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

I most dislike out of the box search feature. It has limitations in sitefinity 8 and it has improved in latest version. Also, we faced lot of issues in indexing custom content types

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Must go for it. Worth the price

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We created massive site for client Astronics - http://astronics.com/ They have several subsidiaries and each subsidiaries has several owners. Sitefinity has been really easy for non technical persons to do data entry

  ### 23. Sitefinity is our agency's first experience with a CMS for our external website.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Environmental Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity is easy to use and incorporates all of the features that we were looking for in a CMS.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

We use a distributed content development model with developers and approvers in multiple departments so the approval workflow does not work well for us.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

We felt that it was very helpful to hire a consultant - preferably a Sitefinity partner - for the initial implementation. Also, we would recommend not customizing too much (e.g., custom content types).

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to inject greater consistency across our website in term of look and feel and the Sitefinity CMS has allowed us to do that. We also feel that we have achieved faster turn-around with website updates and the delivered features have made posting some content much easier.

  ### 24. Made for developers

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity has been our CMS for many years. It's fairly straightforward to use as a marketing for uploading content once the templates are created.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Since I'm not a developer, it seems difficult to update site aesthetics.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitefinity has been a consistent and dependable CMS for us.

  ### 25. Powerful, with frustrations

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott M. | Marketing Manager, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Easy to drop in a text or image box and move things around.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Not always the most intuitive -- it's often difficult to find the things you need since they use unnatural naming. Do you want to add a footer? You need to create it in a "content block". They imply you don't need to know HTML code to make things work the way you want them to work, but you do end up needing to know HTML -- or hire someone who does.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Did a full redesign on our site using Sitefinity, and it turned out well, though it took nearly nine months of three people trying to figure things out. But our traffic is way up.

  ### 26. Sitefinity - Easy to use and maintain

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Events Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Responsive design makes it simple to manage content in the back end only once having it optimized for all screens.

Ease of use allows internal team to build additional online resources as required.

Platform is very intuitive and easy to use for team members of all technical levels.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Different customization may not play well with system updates.
Permissions are very involved (useful) which can be time consuming to figure out.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Internal management of multiple event websites, ability to keep up with technical requirements of websites and online properties in regards to responsiveness, search requirements, etc. Ease of use for all members of staff. Better overall look and feel in regards to design. Improved internal structure in regards to potential growth.

  ### 27. Some good points, some bad points

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

- The basic user interface
- The module builder,
- The page layout system (though some customers found it confusing)
- Many functions exists right out of the box

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

- The continious mysterious bugs and problems!!!
- User rights system is horrible and buggy
- The thing that if you wanted to do things in slightly different way than the sitefinity basic way , development could get very difficult and you'll have to strech the system and think of way how you can bend it to do what you want. Just like in Sharepoint (which I hated)
- Trouble with integrations and creating systems to for example updating a course catalog from outside source
- The news system
- Many out-of-the-box modules rely that customers are competent in creating html content (not true)
- Sometimes very slow
- Many stupid things, like not being able to link any kind of data to any module
- designers are difficult to customize

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Still not a mature product. Many problems in development

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Customer problems, from basic websites to educational institute course system
- Benefit: lots of ready stuff (that is difficult to modify...)

  ### 28. Progress Sitefinity CMS - A Developer Review

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The integration with .NET MVC technology and the ability to create custom widgets in C# makes it a nice platform to extend and integrate with existing code bases developed with similar technologies. The ability to use C# also allows our business to reuse in house knowledge and resources.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity Administration can be somewhat cumbersome and limited. The Administration module has thousands of settings and not always intuitive what all of them do or affect. The Email Campaign and Issue seems limited. My marketing department wants more information about Email Campaigns that Sitefinity does not seem to provide. An example is that Sitefinity reports over 2,600 emails delivered in about 3 seconds flat, when in fact the emails are still being processed by the mail server. As a developer I realize the technical challenge, but my business owners interpret status "Delivered" as "sitting in recipients Inbox". In reality it means Sitefinity executed the "SendMessage" method. If there are any internal errors while processing emails it's difficult to get any information without parsing log files.

Another mystery to me is the background process that Sitefinity uses to perform some operations. It's tied to the IIS Worker Process. Iif that process fails, it doesn't seem to do a very good job of picking up where it left off. If you don't check the log file frequently you are not aware you are having issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Please make sure that you communicate to Sitefinity your goals and architecture to understand if integration is possible. Potentially asking them to provide a cloud environment to test on.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are creating content for one of the larger Fast Food Chains in North America. We are delivering content via our website and using email campaigns to track efficacy.

  ### 29. SiteFinity Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I like the easy development of different widgets and module for larger website. That can be very use full when creating new pages, editing pages and adding or removing pages. I like the different licenses i can get based on the need of traffic or admin panel users.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

i didn't like the error massages that i received of performance that i had to call sitefinity support for and create a ticket and send it to them.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

I would highly recommend this for bigger corporation websites because of its ease of use and advanced CMS back end and development options, regular license updates, a large support community and quick reponse support.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using it for a big health care corporation for there public facing website. it has a lot of benefits such as the ease of use or the back end and content uploading adding removing and editing pages. developing widgets using the HTMLS and improved way of implementing the designs.

  ### 30. Sitefinity rocks!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clint H. | A/V and Tech Support, Biotechnology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Super simple to set up and use... not a lot of html or coding is necessary. setting up the CSS seems to be the hardest part, so far

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

it seems a bit time consuming to keep swapping back and forth between modules (images, forms, libraries, etc) when i forgot to upload or move something to a page i'm creating. quicklinks or opening those pieces in other window tabs might help

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

take a look - the interface is easy to use and very powerful

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

moving our website to a dynamic one from a static/brochure type site. much more interactive and data driven - plus it will now be correctly formatted for mobile devices

  ### 31. Very pleased with Sitefinity

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

We needed a CMS that supported .NET User Controls and MVC. Sitefinity fit this need perfectly. Additionally it's a feature-rich product that does everything we need and more.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

It lacks auditing at the professional level, so it's hard to track who changed what and when.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

If you need a .NET CMS that supports User Controls and MVC, this is a great product.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has moved changes to the website from software developers to the marketing department, freeing up software developers to do other tasks and removes the delay to getting changes to our website up and running.

  ### 32. I experienced sitefinity a best CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I like the sitefinity because it is user freindly, it support both ASP.Net Web form and ASP.Net MVC framework. Using sitefinity thunder most of the development made easiser. it also support extending of APIs. Support user and role base authorization. it also support work flow and can manage based on users and roles. Sitefinity provides hierarchical data structure to mantain your data in this way. you can preview your content before publish. sitefinity provides different data providers for same module content with different constraints and implementation.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

I faced the problem to manage the images in different languages. if i used a image field and want to display different images for eanch language it is not possible, wheneever i change the image in one language it change in other languages as well. to overcome this problem, i used the multiple image field for each language.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

I recomment the Sitefinity because it is easy to use. provide code sample to understand and implement the solution. it support ASP.Net Web form as well ASP.Net MVC. it provides the build-it module for News, Events, Images, Videos, Document. you can extend the built-in module as well.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Sitefinity CMS, we develop differnt type of business requirements including hierarchical data structure model, document centric application. Used sitefinity dataprovider customization to manage content.

  ### 33. SiteFinity is well outdated and a very poor choice for a CMS solution

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Defense & Space | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Unfortunately there is not much to like about Sitefinity. By comparison to other modern CMS offerings it's interface at the administration level is slow and poorly designed.

I guess the fact that it actually renders pages is about the only thing that is positive.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

The backend of the product is convoluted and difficult to locate features. Much of the advanced interface is bundled under Administration-Settings. It is very difficult to locate components. For example, to add a Dot Net user control as a widget requires:
Login-to back-end -> Administration -> Settings ->Advanced -> Toolboxes -> Toolboxes -> PageControls -> Sections -> YourDirectory -> Tools -> Create New

Sitefinity documentation is extremely poor. Locating any feature requires major amounts of work and research. Information on the net appears to have ceased in 2012/2013. There is almost nothing which directly relates to version 9 - the latest version. Therefore I find myself looking at instructions relating to version 4 of Sitefinity - rather than version 9 for which we have paid a lot of cash.

Sitefinity has so many annoying characteristics that I would not recommend anyone purchase it. There are far better offerings in the market-place, including free.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Don't

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A large website with 3 million visits per annum.

  ### 34. Irritating

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Draggable widgets.......................

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Demands high levels of customisation.
Sitefinity developers are very expensive.
Seem to be few high quality developers/designers – you end up feeling like a prisoner of the ones you work with.
Constant, unexplainable hang-ups.
It's slow and clunky.
For a simple website requirement, it offers nothing that can't be achieved in Wordpress for way less cost and hassle.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Depends what you want it for. It's probably good for higher complexity of corporate site, and when huge quantities of content management required with multiple levels of user access. But if you just want a simple website that's easy to manage and low cost to develop, then look at other options.

If you don't have development and design resources in-house who can handle this kind of CMS, you have to have an excellent relationship with your developer agency – they're all expensive and not necessarily as expert as they say they are.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Company website. No benefits beyond other simpler, cheaper alternatives.

**Official Response from Kelsey Schuering:**

  ### 35. Attempts to be all things to all people

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The content management interface is very friendly to non-technical users. If you intend to mostly use the out-of-the-box functionality, Sitefinity is a good, though expensive, product.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity does not seem to consider developers as customers to care for. Heaven help you if you need to write custom widgets. We are using Feather MVC for development. The compilation cycle (local build, and page refresh) on a normal MVC site takes 5 - 20 seconds. With Sitefinity, expect a delay of 1.5 - 15 MINUTES delay for even small changes. The cost to us in lost development performance has been crippling to our project budget. We’ve found ways to minimize the number of times that the cycle happens, but that causes delays as well. Most of us have to sit through the cycle about 10 -15 times per day in the course of our work. When we’ve mentioned it to the support folks at Sitefinity, the answer is along the lines of “Yeah, that sucks, but we can’t do anything about it.”

We have also discovered that system upgrades do not go smoothly if you have custom widgets. The recommendation that we got from the company was to do a clean install of the new version and add our custom widgets back in. For obvious reasons, that is not a workable solution. We are still working to solve the problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

From what I've seen, Sitefinity works quite well with it's out of the box functionality. Problems really don't begin to arise until you writing custom widgets.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have about 50 internal users of the system, and about 400K users externally who view the information in the website.

The website that we are replacing contains ~1500 pages of content. About half of that is standard types of content, the rest is very proprietary, custom functionality. For the redesign, we are reducing the number of pages by increasing our reliance on SF to organize, and search for managed content. We’ve had to tweak the display of the managed content by extending their templates. That part has gone well.

We’re building custom widgets to provide interactivity with a system based upon our organization’s data. That data exists in a database separate from SF. This constitutes about 50% of our end users’ experience. This has not gone well, due to limitations of SF.

  ### 36. Very Few Positives while working with Sitefinity

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The out of the box admin is ok when it's working.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

We implemented 2 pretty large sites using the Multisite Enterprise license and it's been an absolute nightmare to be honest. First of all, their multisite isn't really so. Both of the sites are housed under the same web application, so when you make a backend change or module change that requires a restart, both websites get reset and there is an incredibly annoying system initialization that takes both sites down for 30 seconds to a minute while this happens. This makes continuous integration incredibly tricky.

It seems everytime we go to use some of the built in Sitefinity "features" they are always broken. Ecommerce was completely not finished and barely does anything out of the box. I had to spend a couple months of development customizing to make it work properly for our needs.

It's constantly giving vague and ambiguous errors that Telerik is aware of, but hasn't fixed yet. We tried using the Salesforce connector module, it stopped working after a few syncs so we had to go custom. We've been utilzing their Site Sync feature, it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Getting it to play nicely with SSL and Load Balancer is also a huge chore.

Our front end team has have a pretty hard time getting javascript to play nicely with the built in one they try to load on every page as well.

We are currently having to restructure how the functionality is housed due to how Sitefinity is., I personally cannot wait to never use this product again.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

For the price tag, I don't see the value of this product. There are much better products that will meet your business needs out there for the same price.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ecommerce, Lead Management, Brand information, Campaigns etc. The sitefinity forms have worked well for us without much customization, which is rare.

**Official Response from Kelsey Schuering:**

  ### 37. Powerful, full-featured and extensible platform for .NET

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The best part of Sitefinity is its flexibility; there are many different ways to do certain things, and no one way is better or worse than the other; rather it's a matter of choosing the path that best fits your team, workflow, and experience. The standard features fill most needs of a website, with customizations in layout and style being easily achieved without the need of a developer or even opening the project in Visual Studio.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Out of the box, Sitefinity can get you to 80% of almost all needs of a site; if you have basic customizations required beyond that, Sitefinity can quickly get you to 95%, but filling that last gap can be difficult as some of the internal systems are either restricted (internally scoped) or not customizable. Feather goes a long way to overcome that but even then, if you really need to dig deep in customizations, you risk breaking things on a future release.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Remember that Sitefinity is first and foremost a Content Management System. Although you can extend it with custom applications and integrations, fully integrating them into the platform is not easily done. This platform is best served when utilizing it's existing features for managing content, pages, and users.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sitefinity's Content model ensures that the using and extending your content is consistent and intuitive. The Provider model lets you easily partition your content, while still leveraging all of the default features (such as permissions and workflow) for a customized, yet consistent experience.

  ### 38. Exciting and rewarding.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

It is secure and highly functional. It is an off the shelf product that has no external code, which is very important from a legal perspective, especially to corporations and large companies.
Once integrated to the specific needs of the client, it provides immense control of the content and its visual presentation on variety, of devices and media.
Last but not least, it offers a lot of out of the box integrations to third party products and services.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

It has a number of bugs that have been drag along the various versions of Sitefinity. It is a pity because an enterprise product is expected to perform as such and if a bug has been identified, it should be fixed in a timely fashion.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

The product is great, but don't let it be the detrimental factor, Sitefinity is a partnership that you will grow to appreciate down the road.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a project manager. Sitefinity allows our development team to save time when developing new tools, widgets and websites.

  ### 39. Sitefinity Product Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samir V. | Founding President, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The Sitefinity Product is definitely one of the most flexible and easy-to-use ASP.NET CMS systems out there. Compared to many other ASP.NET CMS platforms such as Kentico CMS and Orchard CMS, it is much more user friendly and intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

The Sitefinity platform as an ASP.NET CMS was a much more affordable platform in the past with v. 3.7 at a price point of the Standard Edition for only $799. However, in recent months, even the Small Business Edition SKU which had a cost of $500 was removed from the product line making it impractical if not impossible for most small businesses to adopt at a price point of $3000+. With such a high price point, many small businesses will look towards alternative solutions such as Orchard CMS, WordPress, Drupal etc. even though they are not ASP.NET based CMS systems because they are considerably cheaper even with add-ons than purchasing the Sitefinity platform today.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Because of the overhead that Sitefinity introduces by running on both ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC technology, businesses should expect that the Sitefinity product will run MUCH, MUCH slower than comparable pure ASP.NET MVC platforms such as Orchard CMS which are incredibly lightweight. The hardware specifications for Sitefinity CMS is also much more hefty and requires much more expertise to perform well and optimally than comparable CMS systems.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Develop extranet/internet websites using an ASP.NET CMS to deliver custom developed content to end users.

  ### 40. Flexible and adaptive CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Responsive design works very well, excellent for multiple devices e.g. smartphones, tablets, all sizes.
Integrates to Microsoft Dynamics CRM, able to pull in CRM data as well as ERP data that is integrated to our CRM.
Great support, helpful and courteous
Very customizable and flexible, many layout options, very compatible

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Web design skills are not mandatory but are definitely a major benefit in order to fully take advantage of Sitefinity's flexibility of design.
Additional widgets, themes would be nice!

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

It is definitely worth a trial to determine if it meets your needs and more importantly if you can customize it as you see fit. They have a sandbox and on premise trial which in my case served as a two step trial where the sandbox introduced me to their product and the on premise allowed for a deeper dive into the environment,

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

new website will be device friendly with responsive design. The language capabilities will also facilitate our multi language requirements.

  ### 41. Currently using Sitefinity for company website

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I don't have any specific features that stand out.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

As a new employee, I inherited the management of a Sitefinity site. Within a couple of months it became clear that we needed more page templates and modules/widgets to use for the content needs we had. The IT team at my office didn't specialize in Sitefinity so I started looking for freelance Sitefinity developer or a local web development company that could help us. I was able to get a hold of the Sitefinity main office (that sold us the CMS in the first place) and they offered design/dev help, however their ability to help us develop full pages and concepts was limited and the price was higher than we were able to pay. We were unable to find any developers that even knew of Sitefinity, much less specialize in it, and in a search for online documentation we couldn't find anything after 2014. After 6 months of trying to band-aid our many issues I finally gave up and suggested we move to Drupal.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Pick a CMS where you can have full support. An open source product typically has better support options.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have seen no benefits. The problems we are seeking to solve are 1. the need for multiple users to be responsible for different sections of the website. 2) ADA/508 compliance 3) Integration of more video 4) Management of content

**Official Response from Kelsey Schuering:**

> Hi there -

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

We use Sitefinity because of its powerful built-in Lucene search. The fact that it can search through PDF content is extremely valuable to us, because most of our customers are on our website to look for documents, and we have 900 of them!

We also like how extensive it is, and that you can pretty much customize anything you want. We are excited for the continued switch to MVC, which will make customization much easier.

We also appreciate the knowledgeable support. When we've had development-related issues, the support team at Progress have usually been able to respond with a coded solution. Very helpful!

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

It's not a true CMS, it's a framework that you have to build a CMS out of. You need to have a developer go through the documentation thoroughly, and build a custom set-up that will work for your organization. It's not like Wordpress where a layperson can just install and go. It's a very steep learning curve if you're not used to this kind of framework.

If you want any customizations to look good, you have to develop it yourself. The add-on shop in Sitefinity is very outdated and difficult to search through. It's impossible to tell if any of the add-ons are active or any good, so we ended up making our own customizations.

The settings, UI, and documentation are also clearly built for developers, it's not layperson-friendly. It also has numerous bugs that will frustrate a regular user. We highly recommend that a developer work directly with Sitefinity, because its numerous quirks and bugs will overwhelm anyone else.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Hire a developer who is willing to go through Sitefinity's documentation and LEARN it. Sitefinity is changing very quickly, and sometimes the changes will be very useful. We originally hired a specialist Sitefinity developer, but he wasn't using Sitefinity Feather, which was pretty new when we started our project. Sitefinity Feather would have cut down on development time substantially, which we found when we took over the project in-house.

Do not attempt to use Sitefinity if you do not have developer willing to devote their full attention to it. It has a steep learning curve. But it is very powerful once you learn how to get a handle on it.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Sitefinity for an informational site for a city department with many responsibilities. Most customers are looking for specific information, so the search is very nice. Document handling is also very good - we can replace files as we need to.

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

It's pretty simple to use even though I had no experience with this brand until my current job.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity always gives us a lot of issues. It's also pretty outdated compared to some other CMS.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a structure to our pages

  ### 44. great product but has some challenges

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cecile L. | Senior Application Developer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

ease of adding content; easy to train users on how to use it.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

separate steps to do an "accurate" sync to production

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

The software can support responsive design, but it does not mean that your content is automatically made responsive, unless you are willing to settle for the Basic responsive style that Sitefinity provides. You have to put in some work -- code and stylesheets -- to make your pages display responsively on mobile devices.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company website used to be maintained solely by the corporate office in the US. With Sitefinity, we were able to spread out the responsibility to our international offices.

  ### 45. Ongoing Improvements for a Solid .NET CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Building Materials | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Sitefinity's new MVC platform, Project Feather, has been a terrific addition to the CMS. We recently completed a responsive redesign using Project Feather, and we were able to integrate our new design with Sitefinity very smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

As an administrator, it can be difficult to know how best to configure Sitefinity. Its ecommerce module is too bare-bones for our needs. Additionally, Sitefinity seems to be aimed at large, multi-site businesses. Often, I feel like our mid-sized business is right on the edge of its use case.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

If you are already using .NET in your tech stack, Sitefinity is a great choice. If you need ecommerce, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Sitefinity as the primary CMS for our website. It has provided a great foundation for our content and marketing. Sitefinity has also been a great platform for developing our own extensions to its system.

  ### 46. User friendly website backend content changes

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I have used other software products to update websites for work and Sifefinity is the most user friendly software out there. I enjoy updating and creating new pages for my company's website with Sitefinity. For example, when I am adding new content, the formatting features are easy to manipulate.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

This is my second year working with Sitefinity and the only issue that I have is that the undo feature is not functional. I have to cancel the changes I currently made to start all over again if I deleted something accidently.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to solve my members' access to important and secure information through Sitefinity. One of the benefits that I realized is that I can update my website at work and at home with no problems or interruptions.

  ### 48. Sitefinity Professional Version Client Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay K. | Web Project Manager, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

I think sitefinity is cost effective CMS based on .NET technology. I am looking forward to their marketing module to enhance the web site effectiveness.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

Some of the functions are not up to the standard - Online forms UX and functionalities, picture gallery etc. slow page loading is a huge issue with SiteFinity pages. All assets (images, videos, docs) are saved in a database is concerning. I prefer storing these assets in a directory structure.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Cost effective .NET based CMS platform.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We solved challenges in editing website by multiple contributors. Content sharing and easy content organizing are huge benefits.

  ### 49. Easy to use

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

The CMS is easy to use and navigate with little to no technical expertise, especially with the drag and drop templates

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

I haven't encountered anything I've disliked yet!

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our clients are easily able to learn more about our company and see what services we offer

  ### 50. Not Happy With Sitefinity

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geoffrey W. | Senior Software Engineer, E-Learning, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?**

Once set up properly marketers can maintain the site.

**What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?**

It is a black box. Poor support. Poor documentation. Has a lot of basic problems. In particular with their Data Caching and Page Caching mechanism. They are no longer developing the Ecommerce part of their product.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:**

Look elsewhere. Even if you are doing a simple marketing web site I would recommend going else where. Not happy with the product and there has to be better platforms for this type of work.

**What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to standardize how we deliver marketing web sites.
