"Valuable Product Analytics with Room for UI Improvement"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I really appreciate the survey tool and recordings feature in PostHog as a user experience designer and researcher. It's incredibly easy to gather user feedback, which I can then seamlessly integrate into my projects. The survey tool is versatile, allowing me to conduct general NPS surveys or target specific URLs with customizable options for appearance and timing, greatly enhancing its utility. Being able to use surveys to have users sign up for additional interviews further extends its functionality. I also find the recordings feature extremely valuable, as it allows me to observe user interactions and identify areas for user experience improvements, making PostHog an indispensable tool for understanding and enhancing product analytics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I find the dashboarding and setup in PostHog a bit tricky, making it challenging for our team to ensure data accuracy. Despite the appealing branding and charming hedgehog mascot, the underlying user interface can become quite confusing when all embellishments are removed. Additionally, the initial setup process was not straightforward; it has taken months, and my team is still working on it. This complexity has been a hurdle in our integration workflow. "Highly Customizable Analytics, But Frequent Crashes Disrupt Experience"
What do you like best about PostHog?

One of the standout features is the ability to customize our Dashboard to fit our specific software requirements. This flexibility lets us track not only events but also cohorts, and it includes heat maps, which are particularly useful. Another great aspect is that it provides access to all the APIs through SWAGGER. Overall, the platform is highly adaptable, allowing us to tailor analytics to suit our needs.

Once you have done all setup it can be easy to navigate through the platform.

The customer support is extremely helpful and quick in response. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

The frequent crashes during loading can be quite irritating at times, and I also receive a large number of incident emails. This makes me think that there are many crashes occurring, although they do seem to get fixed periodically.

For someone who is implementing Analytics first time it can be a little overwhelming as events and all can be a little too much and might not be easy for to integrate for first time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly Interface & Budget/Startup-Friendly, some API and MCP Setup Issues"
What do you like best about PostHog?

Peak is a very user-friendly platform, and I find it much easier to understand compared to Amplitude. I also appreciate the company culture. What stands out most for me is how budget-friendly it is—I haven't spent a single dollar so far, yet we've managed to set up a lot. I use it daily to monitor our web analytics, and right now I'm learning how to build out the entire product analytics structure for our product. Another feature I like is the ability to integrate with Stripe and simultaneously track our LLM's costs. It's also reassuring that Posthog provides customer support from people with technical expertise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

Had problems setting up the API and MCP. Lost at first with the autocapture and the 100+ properties, but found my way to understand them after docs reading and talking with Max <3 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Makes understanding your users feel easy (and even fun)"
What do you like best about PostHog?

What I love about PostHog is how everything just makes sense once you start using it. It’s super intuitive and gives you full control over your data — no black boxes, no weird limits. I like how you can see what users are doing, run experiments, and track real impact, all in one place. It feels like a product built by people who actually care about improving products. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

At first, it can feel a bit overwhelming — there’s a lot you can do. But once you understand the basics, it becomes one of those tools you can’t imagine working without. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A powerful all-in-one analytics platform for product, developer and marketing teams."
What do you like best about PostHog?

This platform sets itself apart with its developer-friendly design and a broad array of features and products. I find the web analytics tools to be particularly strong, as they streamline campaign management and deliver valuable insights. The integration of Max AI is another standout for me; its context-aware capabilities often let me avoid wading through lengthy documentation and help me complete tasks more efficiently. However, the AI does occasionally make mistakes, which is to be expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

While PostHog is powerful, the lack of deeper SQL-based dashboard customization makes it less accessible for non-technical users. Performance can occasionally lag when handling very large datasets, and I’d like to see further optimization and data visualization improvements in future updates. "Powerful tool for experimentation and web analytics"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I liked the fact that, in addition to meeting the specific needs I needed for experimentation, Posthog offers quite powerful web analytics capabilities. This has helped me obtain more accurate campaign data, which I consider a huge benefit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

What we've struggled with is the implementation. It's a complex implementation, not as simple as experimentation tools more focused on marketers. But I believe it's predictable, since it's a tool more focused on developers.

Still, it gives us a lot of autonomy. And because we're using the self-hosted version, despite some missing features, we've had excellent monthly costs. (The cloud version also has reasonable costs compared to competitors.)

Having previously used other tools, I missed the cloud version's greater cost predictability. The usage per action or processing makes the bill difficult to predict. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great monitoring platform!"
What do you like best about PostHog?

Honestly, what I like best about PostHog is that it keeps everything in one place. I don’t have to bounce between separate tools for analytics, session recordings, and feature flags—it’s all connected, and that makes it way easier to actually use the data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

What I dislike about PostHog is that sometimes it feels a bit heavy or rough around the edges. Because it does so many things in one platform, not every feature feels equally polished. For example, the UI can be a little overwhelming at first, and it takes some digging around to really understand where everything lives.

Another thing is performance—depending on how much data you’re tracking, queries can be slower than expected. It’s not a deal breaker, but when you’re trying to move quickly, that lag can be noticeable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive Features, Helpful AI, and very easy to get started but Documentation Needs Clarity"
What do you like best about PostHog?

Very easy to understand the list of available features and what each does and to which use case it applies. Just as easy to integrate and start seeing results. And the interface to define reports is also pretty straightforward and where you encounter difficulties you have the PostHog AI that helps you figure things out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I had some troubles with the documentation. I found some confusing information is some places about how to add custom data to the tracking event. I was eventually able to figure things out using PostHog AI, but the first impression I got trying to use the docs by myself was that the format of the event JSON needs to be a bit more clearly documented and a bit more consistent. "Essential Analytics with Generous Features"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I use PostHog to gain insights into user analytics for my SaaS products, which I find incredibly useful. One of the standout features of PostHog is its session replays tool that allows me to visually observe user interactions within my application, providing clear insights into user behavior. Additionally, I appreciate how easy it is to filter sessions to focus on specific users or pages, which adds significant value to my analysis process. The SQL feature is another highlight, enabling me to extract detailed user data through simple programming, and the integration of AI to assist in writing queries enhances the ease of data analysis. I also find the generous free tier incredibly beneficial as it helps manage costs for early-stage products. The simple interface of PostHog facilitates straightforward navigation, significantly improving the usability experience. The initial setup was a breeze, thanks to the excellent documentation, interactive guides, and the remarkable AI CLI tool that streamlines the installation process. Wrapped up with the ability to overcome issues posed by ad blockers via a proxying feature, the cost-effectiveness and comprehensive feature set led me to switch from other analytics tools like Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

Sometimes the session replays tool is slow and glitchy. Additionally, the filtering is not intuitive, making it difficult to discern which filter name corresponds to which data point. I am also unable to use the heatmaps feature for apps behind authentication, although I am aware that this feature is still in beta. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Incomplete Documentation, Annoying UI and High Cost Dampen Potential"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I appreciate that PostHog meets our basic needs for generating heatmaps. Even though there are not many standout features we need right now, it effectively provides the insights we require about application usage. I value how it enables understanding of which areas of our app are utilized the most, fulfilling its primary purpose efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

The integration setup with PostHog was very rough around the edges, which made the initial setup process not easy. There was confusion about whether I could have multiple environments under a single API key. Apparently there was an announcement that you could, but then that was quietly removed. The heatmaps feature being in beta demonstrated some instability or incomplete elements. The dashboard UI included distracting touches like a desktop imitation complete with a screensaver, which I found annoying. The product appeared to be heavily targeted at sales and marketing, but the developer documentation was neither easy to find nor as comprehensive as I would prefer. The projected billing for the first month seemed quite high for what was being offered, causing concern. I figured out in time to turn off autocapture, a feature apparently not necessary for heatmaps, but I'm not sure it'll still be worth the cost Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
