Also the fact that different LSPs can work on the same project just by sharing the token. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** When importing Excel files, it's not easy to select specific cells, it's seems one can only choose columns. It would also be nice to be able to select the number of files one can see per page on a project. Of course there are tons of detailed articles about each process and how to use them. There are dozens of pages and we need multiple languages. The second is the comment feature. It is easy to use and intuitive, and you can easily translate projects. It supports Right-to-left Languages, which is a great feature, and Tags can be added easily, so there is there is no confusion here. The QA process is decent and you can understand the platform once you use it. I use it now daily since I have multiple clients using it and I honestly prefer it over the alternative this the online platform is the easiest to use among the rest. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** It would be great if there were a way to find out which account belongs to which client! In other words, I have six clients using Phrase, each with a different username and password. When I get a link to log in to work on it, I need to remember which username/password I need to use to log in for this particular project. It is even more complicated when they all use variations of "my email+year" or "provide_my email" where I need to log in and out multiple times to find the correct account. The features seem to be entirely comparable to those of Trados, with the ease of use of logging in on any machine and in any browser. Therefore, this makes it easy for me to work on the move when I might not be using a computer with Trados installed. Overall, I find the design of the interface highly effective. I have not had the occasion to contact Phrase customer support. This reflects the fact that the platform is generally very robust and reliable. I would certainly recommend it to any organization and I believe that as a freelance translator, Phrase has helped me to receive a higher volume of work from certain clients that prefer to use it. I don't use automatic translation during translation file import, as I prefer to supervise the translations segment by segment. For translations imported from Paligo, the tags contained in the target are colored gray, and I need to manually replace each one by a blue tag. WIthout this replacement, when the completed translation is imported back into Paligo, it doesn't recognize the tags and omits their contents in the translated document. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** We provide documentation in Mexican Spanish and Hebrew, as well as English. Originally, we outsourced the translations to a translation agency, but found that since they didn't understand the product, their translations were faulty, to the extent that it was difficult to understand from the translated User Guides, how to use the product. As a result we needed to invest considerable time in reviewing and correcting the translations. Eventually, we stopped using the translation agency, and started doing the translations ourselves, with the help of Phrase. It's not built for multi-term entries. Most complex TBs are concept-based meaning that a concept has an entry with various possible variants, e.g. acronyms, abbreviations, short forms, etc. Phrase does not support this. Displaying multi-term entries is painful and it does not match the terms within entry correctly. Metadata for terminology entries are also very limited. Many client require multiple metadata which are not supported and cannot be easily mapped in Phrase. The navigation is also excellent -- I can always continue where I left off, and jump to any segment whenever I need. The workflow is also very straightforward, which makes it easy to work with a team. Overall, I think it has the best features of some 'heavier' desktop tools, with the speed and convenience of a cloud-based solution where everything is always up to date. I started using it as a team leader a few months ago, and it didn't disappoint, either... I can create and manage projects & tasks easily, as well as update TM's and term bases; the analysis tool can get as detailed as I need it to be; and the price is very competitive, too. I am very happy with Phrase, and look forward to continue using it for a long time. Keep up the good work! **What do you dislike about Phrase?** I started using Phrase TMS a few months ago, and the pricing/usage structure has been difficult to understand. It's easy to reach the limits of managed words and MT use, and the higher tiers are much more expensive than what I need at the moment. Some in-between options or easier top-ups would be good (and it would be even better to have a pricing structure similar to what it was in the past, where I didn't have to worry about usage limits). As for the localization platform, one of the only things that have felt 'complicated' or 'not as good as in other tools' is the whay tags are handled -- they are usually in the incorrect order in pre-translated content, and there are always issues with spacing around the tags. I like how the keyboard shortcut works to insert the next tag automatically, but it would be easier if the tags appeared in the right order / with the right spacing from the beginning when the content is pre-translated or copied from the source. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's very easy to create a new job/task with almost any kind of file, translate it on Phrase, and download the translated file in the same format & with the same layout as the original. It works well across platforms (I have used both native clients for Mac and Windows as well as the web-based client). It is very fast. I can translate very large files (consisting of tens of thousands of words, sometimes even more than 100,000 words across several documents that are joined as a single Phrase XLIFF file), and the native client does not hang when scrolling through the document or uploading work back to the server. The filters at the top of the source and target columns in the editor screen work lightning fast in drilling down and finding segments of interest. By contrast, some other CAT tools, like Trados Studio, can become almost unusable when confronted with large files. In fact, since Phrase offers pretty good support for translating Trados documents (SDLXLIFF files), I now prefer to translate them in Phrase and then import them into Studio to do the final segment confirmation and QA checks and export the Trados return package. Phrase's QA checks are pretty good at catching translation inconsistencies, missing numbers, missing tags and other formatting, as well as missing terminology when using a term base. The customer support is very fast. I often get a reply to my emails within 10 minutes. Platform reliability and uptime are very good. In last several years, there may have only been a couple of times when the platform was unavailable or I was unable to create or manage a project in the web interface (TMS). I work most days as a full-time translator, so I am a frequent user. The native client does not consume a lot of energy when running on my laptop in battery mode. By contrast, MemoQ and Trados Studio can run down my battery much more quickly. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** The QA check is not as good at detecting spelling errors. This may have something to do with the spellcheck engine that is being used, and there may be room for improvement here (at least for US English, which is the target language I translate into). I always perform final spell checks for the exported files in Word. There is no robust search feature in the TMS web interface, nor is there a dashboard that could give me information about my work and business. For example, I label projects by client, and it might be interesting to see how many projects I received over a certain period of time. Of course, these features go beyond perhaps what is necessary for a CAT tool, and I can track this information elsewhere or using other tools. But it would be nice to have this analysis inside the tool, since I do so much of my work in Phrase. The native client does not support working in offline mode. This would be convenient when traveling without a WiFi connection, for example. You can fill in segments and try uploading them when you reconnect to a network, but you risk losing your work if the editor crashes or you close the program by mistake. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use the tool as the primary CAT tool for my freelance translation business. For a small company, it saves us a considerable amount of time. Once the initial setup is complete—which required some back and forth with support—Phrase fits our use cases perfectly. There are still a few aspects that could be better explained (e.g., the difference between "Jobs" for internal use and "Orders" for external translators) or improved in terms of clarity. However, overall, the platform meets our needs quite well. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** To provide some context, we synchronize our translation files from GitHub repositories with multiple Phrase projects (one or more per repository). These files are all in JSON format, and we use react-intl. Given that my focus is solely on using react-intl with JSON files synced with GitHub, there’s no way to filter the documentation to show only the relevant information. Since Phrase offers various features, navigating the documentation can be overwhelming, especially when unrelated content 'pollutes' our search/reading of the documentations.This is probably worst for us if we consider we use it more on a feature basis, which implies we have a 'blitz' of the initial configuration but then we use Phrase only few times each few weeks. Additionally, the documentation doesn’t provide a clear mental model of how things are managed on Phrase's side, leading to misconfigurations and frustrations. For instance, it wasn’t immediately clear that Phrase maintains a single file with the translation keys, which would have helped us understand the need for tags in certain cases. We also encountered confusion with the flag that controls updates being propagated to Phrase. When we deleted translation keys in our JSON files, they reappeared in the next export to GitHub. After realizing that deletions needed to occur both in the JSON files and in Phrase, things went more smoothly, though it still feels cumbersome to handle deletions in multiple places. Furthermore, it would be helpful if there were a way to “copy” or reuse a style guide across multiple projects. In our case, we have several GitHub repositories for the same platform, which forced us to manually replicate the style guide for each Phrase project. This was tedious and time-consuming. Additionally, we’ve noticed inconsistencies between the various orders placed with external translators. Some translators have a better understanding of how react-intl handles plurals and variables in JSON files. It would be beneficial if translators could provide feedback on the style guide when something is unclear, and if we could consistently assign the same translators to maintain uniformity in future orders. Finally, the GitHub Sync integration errors are somewhat hidden. It would be helpful to have access to the synchronization history on a per-project basis, as it was in the past. Currently, this information is buried in the Integrations section. From a UX perspective, offering multiple ways to access this data would be beneficial. A per-project sync history view would add great value. Small note: I was confused for quite some time, are we using Phrase Strings or Phrase TMS product... It's confusing to us what Phrase Strings even means, that title doesn't give any context on what it's used for. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had to make our react application compatible with 10+ languages so it was very helpfull to have a place to manage translations and dispatch the work to profesionals. There is no need to update old software. This helps avoid installation problems that may be caused by different OS versions, OS systems, or lack of IT skills, which makes new linguist integration quick and smooth. We have received reviews from linguists that the web editor UI is intuitive with streamlined functions, compared to other major CAT tool editors. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** When the create new project UI was revamped, it took a while for our PMs to get used to the new format. However the training videos for both linguists and PMs were very useful in catching up with the new UI. The preview window, although helpful, is sometimes inaccurate and does not reflect the original document (e.g., highlighted text, colored text). Although it is noted that the preview is not 100% reliable, juming back and forth between the Phrase window and the source file can be a hassle, so an improvement in this function would be a big help in boosting translation efficiency. Connection to the EU data center can be very slow at times. We have to wait a while for a PPT file to be uploaded to a new job. This happens in the evening (JST), so I assume this is due to server traffic starting in the CET time zone. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** Phrase helps us control scheduling, assignment, and output quality of all our translation work. Before using Phrase, we used Excel for scheduling, e-mail for getting in touch with and assigning translators, and our own platform for assessiing translator quality. Especially now with the new pricing package and ilimited user licenses, this is something that really streamlines the onboarding process of new linguists for our company. I also really enjoy the technology advancements with integrated AI features, such as Phrase Custom AI, which allows us to deliver a lot more value to our clients. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** Phrase TMS lacks some of the more robust linguistic features that are found in some of the CAT tools that have been in the market for longer, such as memoQ and SDL Studio. The Phrase alignment tool, file importing tool and regex are subpar when comapred to the other tools. My biggest pet peeve with Phrase is the lack of knowledge from the Sales team, especially now with the new AI capabilties. I've been promised lots of features that Phrase was not ready to deliver. I was incorrently charged for MTUs that I did not use. I waited in line for MONTHS for the Custom AI to become available for Portuguese when I was promised it would be available in January, then in March. I was told more than once that there were no hidden costs on the new pricing plan, but yet there were. It took me a lot of trial and error to implement Custom AI -- and in the beginning, the sales representative who sold the solution to us, was also unaware that the technology does not support locales. The manuals and guides available are not complete enough and do not approach many use-case scenarios, and more often than not, getting someone to help resolve these implementation issues is a hassle. While the support team responds promptly, they are not able to assist in more complicated issues. One example: I filled out the form to order Custom AI 4 or 5 times at the end of 2023 and received no response from sales. Ultimately I issues a support ticket and was told "my emails were not reaching anyone". Once a sales perosn was assigned to my case, they were not very knowledgeable about the product. This person then left the company and my emails went unanswered AGAIN for several months. This is until a new sales person was assigned to my account not to resolve the issues I had emailed about, but to incorrectly charge me for additional MTU use when we had not reached our limit and they were being counted incorrectly. It has been very frustrating dealing with the Phrase team overall. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** Phrase has helped us implement a customized AI translation solution for one of our clients, which allowed us to regain business from this client when mega-agencies who have their own AI solution were trying to this deal to them. This has been great, though the solution came with a lot of sweat and tears from our end, as I explained in the previous comment. This is my tool of choice, and I use it very often. I didn't need to ask for much outside help to understand how the tool works. The quality control feature is simple and easy to use. I particularly appreciate being able to add exceptions to repetitions. I dealt with customer service once, and it was very efficient. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** I regret not being able to choose the typography based on the language (angle quotes or quotation marks, straight or curly apostrophes...). Some translation software offers intuitive writing for numbers and automatically adds non-breaking spaces before punctuation marks that require them. These features would be very useful to me. I would also appreciate being able to sort the translation memory results by date, in order to have quick access to the most recent and therefore most relevant results. I regret that the quality control checkboxes now appear as a banner, as it makes me lose time when I want to select multiple options. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** Phrase allows easy and almost instant access to translation memories, which greatly facilitates my work and allows me to do it quickly. It is also compatible with the dictation software I use, which is a significant advantage. Establishing new users and managing their access to the relevant jobs/projects is also simple and can help keep people's noses out of jobs they have no business in. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** It can be quite difficult to get information on a function or feature you don't understand or have never used before. There is either no or not sufficient information on any given feature on the platform itself, and googling for help can be cumbersome, as googling "phrase" followed by anything usually brings up some sort of translation or dictionary. This means I have to write "memsource phrase" and then what I'm looking for, which surely was not the goal of the rebranding of the platform. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** As I'm working with freelance translators and do not share a local network with them, phrase eliminates the need of sending countless e-mails with files, reducing mail clogging. It also makes it easier to bring new translators into the project, like our company did with Italian last year.
