"Streamlined HR Management, Needs Better Audit Logs"
4/5
What do you like best about Persono?

As Compensation & HR Admin at TechStaff Digital UG in Bremen, what I appreciate most about Persono is its no‑fuss employee‑record interface that fits our 42‑person tech team perfectly. Coming over from PixelsHR, I was constantly drowning in scattered Excel spreadsheets and disorganized shared‑drive folders where contracts, flexible‑time paperwork and performance reviews were stored in random locations. Before Persono, whenever a department lead needed background information ahead of a quarterly performance conversation with a software engineer, I would spend 20 to 30 minutes digging through different folders just to gather all relevant documents. Now every team member has their own dedicated personnel profile. I can upload signed employment contracts, flexible‑working agreements, completed appraisal forms and benefit documentation all within that single record. A couple months back, one of our senior developers transferred to another internal product team. His new manager needed to get up to speed quickly ahead of their first one‑on‑one performance check‑in. Instead of scheduling a lengthy hand‑over meeting with me, he simply opened the employee’s Persono profile and reviewed the full history of past reviews and working‑time arrangements. That saved both of us significant time. I also value its flexible role‑based permission settings. I can grant our department heads read‑only access to general employee information, while locking down all salary, bonus and compensation fields so only I can modify them. This is critical for us handling highly sensitive payroll data for German staff. Even with its known flaws including bare‑bones audit logs and zero native German payroll calculation, Persono eliminated the huge amount of file‑hunting labour we dealt with previously. It brings real order to our daily recruitment, attendance tracking and pre‑payroll preparation routines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Persono?

Persono has several meaningful shortcomings that create extra manual labour and GDPR‑related risk for our German tech‑company HR workflows. To start with, its change audit trail is extremely superficial. It only logs a generic timestamp to show something was changed, without storing previous field values or identifying exactly which user made edits. Earlier this year, I noticed that supplementary benefit values on one backend developer’s profile had been altered unexpectedly. I could not trace who modified the entry nor see the original number. I had to pull out my offline backup spreadsheets and restore the correct benefit figure line‑by‑line. For businesses subject to German GDPR rules, lacking full edit history puts us in a tough spot if an employee ever requests to review modification logs on their personnel data. There is also no out‑of‑the‑box configuration for German payroll and social‑security logic. All salary‑related metadata can only go into generic text boxes. Every pay‑cycle I export personnel data and send it to our external payroll service provider. One month I mixed up two engineers’ supplementary bonus notes inside those free‑text fields. I caught that error only minutes before submitting the export file, which prevented incorrect salary disbursements. On top of that, all connections to TixeoCloud, PowerFolder, imagino, Mailify and phpList operate purely via manual CSV import‑export or copy‑paste. I have run into real‑life mishaps such as pasting expired TixeoCloud meeting links for candidate interviews and forgetting to delete resigned‑staff contacts inside imagino. CSV exports also occasionally corrupt German umlaut characters, so every exported file needs thorough proofreading. I also had to manually build all custom text fields for German‑specific HR metadata during setup, which ate multiple working days. These weaknesses do not break the platform entirely, but they add consistent avoidable overhead to my day‑to‑day HR work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
