Permutive is the engine behind our DMP at Wemass, and its biggest value for us is its flexibility. We’ve been able to build our own product on top of it, activate audiences across whatever ad stack our partners use, and rely on a support team that thinks commercially, not just technically.
Integrations are where Permutive really stands out for us. We wrap the Permutive SDK in our own script, and it supports multiple Permutive instances on the same site. That means we can deploy our DMP on publishers that already run their own Permutive setup. The integration is also modular: only initializing the library is mandatory, while retrieving segments and sending page-view attributes are optional.
Activation is just as flexible. In Prebid, we pass segments to the Microsoft bidder as keywords.
On performance, contextual segments are available on the same page view, so we can use them in the ad request immediately without adding noticeable latency to page load.
From a UI/UX perspective, the dashboard lets our ad ops team build cohorts and manage integrations without depending on engineering.
Support and onboarding have also been strong. Our Permutive contact was quick and proactive. When we asked for a platform overview for our sales and operations teams, she offered to tailor it to the team’s knowledge of first-party data and the briefs we typically get from advertisers. That consultative approach helps our commercial team understand what they can offer clients, not only how the technology works.
One unexpected benefit is that what we initially expected to be “just” a data tool has become a commercial advantage. The integration flexibility means the same segments work in both Prebid and non-Prebid setups, so no partner is left out simply because of how their ad stack is built. So far, we haven’t seen a practical use of the AI and automation features in our day-to-day work. Permutive positions AI as a core part of the platform, but for us, building, managing and activating segments still relies mainly on manual setup and our own team’s judgment. It isn’t yet clear how these capabilities translate into concrete gains, such as recommending which audiences to package for a specific advertiser brief or cutting the time it takes to create and activate a new segment. More practical use cases, examples or guidance on applying these features would help us get real value from them.
That said, it’s an area where we expect the platform to keep evolving, and it doesn’t take away from the core value we get from Permutive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
