## openSUSE Tumbleweed Reviews
  ### 1. Robust, stable, and scalable.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juan T. | DevOps, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2026

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

I enjoy using openSUSE Tumbleweed for application development and in production to set up Apache servers and MySQL databases. The administration is simpler and it seems more stable and robust to me than other options. I really like the documentation, as it has been very useful for learning how the Linux kernel works. I highly value YaST for being a very good administration tool, although I know it will soon disappear. I also appreciate that the system offers quite a few useful tools for day-to-day use. The initial setup was quite easy, and I have enjoyed openSUSE since version 9.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Graphical mode desktops are very difficult or sometimes they slow down. When I move windows, there are rendering problems, sometimes they can't be moved and other times they hide and it's hard to find them.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find that openSUSE Tumbleweed makes management simpler, being more stable and robust than others. Its documentation has helped me learn about the Linux kernel, and I value its YaST management tool and the system tools for day-to-day use.

  ### 2. Effortless Setup and Ultimate Customizability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

I use openSUSE Tumbleweed as my primary operating system for coding and general use. I really appreciate its great compatibility with my Macbook Pro 2015 and its good support for Hyprland, along with the latest software. I like how it's frequently updated yet remains very stable. Hyprland being well-supported is a big factor for me, and it really makes my whole workflow personal. It's well documented, easy to set up, and customizable to exactly how I want it, all while being visually pleasing. The initial setup of openSUSE Tumbleweed was very simple and quick with no problems at all.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

If you haven't upgraded your system in a while, you could run into problems when you eventually try to do it.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed offers great compatibility with my Macbook Pro 2015, supports Hyprland, and stays updated with the latest software. I love that it's frequently updated yet stable.

  ### 3. Tumbleweed is the best rolling-release distribution out there!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2025

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

I love the fact that this operating system is a rolling release and all you do is install it once and and you will continue to receive the benefits of the latest packages and kernel without a full system upgrade.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Daily updates can be a bit disruptive and is not idea for beginners.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tumbleweed solves the problems of outdated software by applying updates continuously through a Linux based system, it's open source so it doesn't cost any money.

  ### 4. Not what I expected from my favourite Linux distribution. Very disappointed!

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter G. | Owner and IT Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2022

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Once it is installed, it works OK. I've always liked YasT and as a result it's easy to get around to enable services, network configurations, start and stop services and so much more.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

From the outset, trying to install from the network installer is a waste of time. There are so many failed checksums that it takes many hours of frustration only to end up with minimum functionality and a broken KDE desktop.
Installing from the full installation image works better, but snapper won't' run because of a bad checksum on one of the dependencies. This is a step in the wrong direction from all of the previous versions which installed without issues.
Better quality control is required!

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The only benefit that I expected from Tumbleweed is to stay up to date, but now I wonder if going to a product like Debian will be better. I have extensive experience with Debian, but have always preferred openSuSE for server installations.

  ### 5. You get latest and greatest software with openSUSE Tumbleweed

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edgars V. | Senior IT Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2022

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

You always get the latest software versions with openSUSE Tumbleweed. You don't need to plan release upgrades every few years because there are none - you make regular updates and get the newest versions.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

You can get into situations when your old software configuration does not work anymore because new backwards-incompatible versions get installed. This is why you need a test environment where to test updates.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to develop and run solutions where the latest software versions are required.

  ### 6. Tumbleweed experience

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Maybe it should be more custom. Options to place this there etc etc.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Im still trying to re-learn Java all alone since there is lack of commercial opportunities. Maybe its now good place.

  ### 7. openSUSE Tumbleweed Power and Beauty

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

One of the most beneficial aspects of openSUSE Tumbleweed is its rolling release model, which allows users to always have the most up-to-date software packages and security patches without needing to reinstall when a new version is released. This can be particularly useful for developers and advanced users who want to stay on the cutting edge of technology and have the latest tools and features at their disposal.

Another beneficial aspect of openSUSE Tumbleweed is its strong focus on user choice and customization. The operating system includes a wide range of software packages and tools that can be easily installed and configured to meet the user's needs. Additionally, the system consists of several customization options and settings that can be adjusted to suit the user's preferences.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

openSUSE Tumbleweed may not be the best choice for users who value stability and predictability above all else, or for those who are using the operating system in a production environment where downtime or system instability is not acceptable. It is generally recommended for advanced users and developers who are comfortable with the potential for occasional issues that can arise from using pre-release software.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed an operating system that is highly flexible and customizable, allowing users to tailor the plan to their specific needs and preferences. **Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2023

**What do you like best about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Blazingly uptodate with a decent community support having a lot of much awaited features and unbelievably customer friendly. The OS distribution is maintained with high quality standards.

**What do you dislike about openSUSE Tumbleweed?**

Limited hardware options and no backupgrades for older hardwares. The packages are also limited so the development curve becomes a little steep towards scale, you need to be a hawkeye to avoid security updates.

**What problems is openSUSE Tumbleweed solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Updates, updates and updates. To manage these updates and security patches was a nightmare early but with Opensuse tumbleweed it's a boon with a good UX and clarity in documentation to deploy HPC.
