"A well-designed open-source metadata platform with a welcoming contributor community"
4.5/5
What do you like best about OpenMetadata?

The unified metadata model and the Python SDK. Everything (tables, pipelines, lineage, classifications) is described by clear JSON schemas, and the SDK gives you typed models for all of it, so working with the API from Python feels natural. As a contributor I also appreciate how organised the codebase is: ingestion, backend and UI are clearly separated and pull requests come with a template that asks for tests and use cases, which keeps quality high. The maintainers review quickly and are welcoming to new contributors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OpenMetadata?

Running the full stack locally takes some setup, because several services (database, search, ingestion) need to be running before you can test end to end. The codebase is also large, so it takes time to learn where things live. And like any fast-moving project there are rough edges: the bug I fixed meant the Python SDK’s run_pipeline() raised an error even when a run succeeded. The maintainers are quick to review fixes, though. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
