The forecasts and tracks of our financial data improve our workflow. I particularly like the dashboard and the ability to track changes made, which aids in maintaining quality control. We have an excellent service onboarding team that made the initial setup smooth. **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** Limited capabilities on prem. It would be nice to see more carried over from SaaS. **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** I love OneStream - Unified EPM because it helps collate and organize data, enabling productive conversations with stakeholders. All in all looks great! **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** Make more of the coding drag and drop style **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to load all our TB's from various sources into one application, it allows us to automate that load process, we also utilise the account recs module as well as using the analytic blend which provides very granular details to the FP&A team. This saves them from having to log into multiple source systems to interrogate data. They can do that via dashboard report, very cool functionality! ### 3. The extensibility is a very powerful feature both for collating data but also for performance in consolidating the data. **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** It would be great to have API integration to manage security using an external tool. **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a few hundred entities globally so OneStream is used to capture all the Actuals data from across a number of ERP systems in a unified way. This enables us to close our books quicker then before and has saved us 3 days in closing our books. We can also complete our forecast and budget and proforma data in the application at the same level of granularity. WIth a high volume of data we are leveraging the Vertical and Horizontal extensibility which gives us details at the right level and performance in consolidation. ### 4. It sounds like marketing jargon, but it genuinely solves the biggest headache in corporate finance. In the past, we had separate software for Consolidation, another system for Budgeting/Forecasting (FP&A), and then we'd pull it all into Excel for final Reporting. That meant spending countless hours: Reconciling Data: Trying to figure out why the numbers in the planning system didn't match the numbers in the consolidation system. Maintaining Integrations: Relying on IT to build and maintain brittle data links between three different software vendors. With OneStream, the data for our actuals (Close & Consolidation) and our budget/forecast all sit in one place. You have a single set of rules and a single data model. This gives us complete confidence in our numbers and allows us to spend 90% of our time on analysis and strategy, instead of 90% of our time on data wrangling and reconciliation. That shift in focus is invaluable. **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** If I had to switch hats and give you the perspective of a user who has gone through an implementation and is now using it day-to-day, the common dislikes usually fall into three main buckets: Cost, Complexity, and Culture. Here’s my take: 1. The Cost: It's an Investment, and It's Expensive. "Look, I get that it replaces four other systems and gives us amazing data quality, but there’s no getting around it: OneStream is premium software with a premium price tag. Initial Outlay: The licensing and implementation costs are significant. It’s not a solution for small-to-mid-size companies unless they have extremely complex financial requirements. You need to be ready to commit significant budget. The 'Tax': Because the system is so powerful and flexible, you often need to rely on highly-skilled, and therefore expensive, consultants or in-house experts for the heavy lifting, especially with initial design and complex business rule changes. 2. The Complexity & Learning Curve: Powerful, but not Simple "The thing I loved about it—its ability to do everything—is also what makes it a beast to master. It’s not like turning on a lightweight cloud app. Steep Learning Curve: For a new administrator or a new financial analyst who didn't come from a legacy CPM system (like Hyperion), the complexity can be overwhelming at first. You need dedicated training and time to become proficient. It Requires a 'Developer Mindset': While the front-end user experience is good for data entry and reporting, making major changes to the system logic, building highly customized reports, or managing the Extensible Dimensionality feature often feels like an IT development project. It’s not always a completely 'business user self-service' tool in the way some simpler planning apps are marketed. 3. The User Interface (UI): Functional, Not Fashionable "Honestly, the application is incredibly functional, but if you compare it side-by-side with some of the newer, consumer-grade cloud apps, it can feel a bit... plain. A Bit Dated: It can sometimes lack the sleek, modern aesthetic and intuitive 'drag-and-drop' feel that some users are now accustomed to from other cloud tools. It's built by finance people, for finance problems, and the focus is clearly on the robust functionality behind the scenes, not necessarily the visual sizzle." In short, it's a Formula 1 race car: incredibly powerful, capable of world-class performance, but it costs a lot to buy, and you need a specialized, highly-trained pit crew to run it. **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me, OneStream solves two huge problems: the 'Franken-System' problem and the 'Low-Value Time-Suck' problem. Problem 1: The "Franken-System" (Disparate, Disconnected Tools) The Problem Itself: Before OneStream, we were using three different pieces of software—one for the final financial consolidation, one for our annual budget, and a mess of spreadsheets for operational planning. We were always dealing with what I call the 'Franken-System': disparate applications clumsily bolted together. Every month, we'd spend days pulling data from System A, mapping it to System B, and reconciling the differences. Why? Because the definition of 'Revenue' was slightly different in each one. How OneStream Solved It (The Benefit): It gave us ONE single source of truth. Now, actuals, budgets, forecasts, and even operational details all live in the same place with the same rules and dimensions. I no longer have to reconcile the forecast number against the actual number—if they don't match up, it's not because of a data transfer error; it's a real business problem we need to analyze. The benefit is a massive surge in data confidence. I know the numbers I'm reporting to the CFO are validated, tied out, and accurate because they came from the same engine that runs the final close. Problem 2: The "Low-Value Time-Suck" (Wasting Time on Busywork) The Problem Itself: My team was spending about 70% of its time on manual, repetitive tasks: pulling trial balances, loading data, running currency conversions, eliminating intercompany entries, and formatting reports. We were data administrators, not financial analysts. We had almost no time for strategic work. How OneStream Solved It (The Benefit): It automates all the necessary but boring grunt work. The financial close is significantly faster because consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and data validations happen automatically within the platform's workflows. The benefit is we are finally strategic business partners. My team is freed up to spend that 70% of our time on high-value activities: Deeper Analysis: We're analyzing variances, modeling "what-if" scenarios, and seeing trends in real-time. Business Intelligence: We can blend financial data with operational data (like CRM or inventory stats) to give department heads true insights, not just P&L numbers. Ultimately, OneStream helps me transition from being a Historian (reporting what happened last month) to a Predictor (advising on what should happen next month). That's a huge benefit to my career and to the company's bottom line. ### 7. Specifically with accounting reconciliations, we now have the ability to streamline our reconciliation process with pre-made templates, while being able to attach our own internal documents as backup where needed. OneStream has given us the ability to review account recs form a high-level perspective - we can review what is outstanding, what has been changed, and where reconciliations are in the approval process. It has been a great tool for month end planning. **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** The initial parallel integration was slower than expected. There were some difficulties with training and proper reconciliation prep, but with virtual learning sessions we were able to overcome the initial growing pains. The customer support made this process significantly easier. **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** OneStream has given us the ability to forecast in greater detail and perform deeper financial analysis. For example, preparing overhead analysis during forecasting has become more efficient due to the variance analysis OneStream provides for all changes to accounts. This allows us me to focus on significant variances and the effects of these changes on our forecast or business plan. ### 9. It just intrinsically makes sense. **What do you dislike about OneStream - Unified EPM?** I think there are some things where you may need a bit of a developer mindset to execute, but its been continually improving with the new tools and resources given, like genesis to help build dashboarding for someone like me in finance, decreases barriers to develop. **What problems is OneStream - Unified EPM solving and how is that benefiting you?** Reporting is huge in the OneStream tool, doing things much further than the standard ERPs. It is also giving us much more flexibility for insights to upper management, and drawing out a global standard of reporting across all our segments and brands. ### 10.
