Omni is a platform that allows users to create and trade custom digital assets and currencies. It is built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, which is the most popular, most audited, and most secure blockchain. Omni transactions are Bitcoin transactions that enable next-generation features on the Bitcoin blockchain. The platform is user-friendly and provides solutions for all aspects of business, allowing for interaction in a unified solution. Some of the "next-gen features" includez; tokenization (custom currencies), smart contracts, scalability (Bitcoin network can be pretty limited throughout, resulting in slower confirmations when network busy/in high demand), privacy (bitoin transactions are recorded publicly on the blockchain), interoperability (info and assets transferred seamlessly between different blockchain networks), decentralized apps (allows development in bitcoin of more complex decentralized platforms like Ethereum), and my favorite thing is how it brings the ability to perform cross-chain transactions: allows assets (so tokens or bitcoin) to be moved or sent to or between different blockchain networks. It's ilke P2P without needing a third party app as long as you have the OMNI layer.

Downsides of using OMNI are typical of basically most other layers built onto Bitcoin blockchain. These can include the overall system becoming more complex, resulting in development, maintenance, and understanding the intricacies of the technology challenges.
Introducing additional layers like OMNI layer essentially means you are introducing new code and potential attack vectors. If not properly secured and continuously tested, OMNI layer (like any other layer) could become a target for security breaches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
