"A decent alternative to MacOS Photos app"

What do you like best about Movavi Photo Manager for Mac?

Ironically I find that Movavi Photo Manager runs faster and less clunky compared to Apple's native solution by way of MacOS Photos app. For example, when I uploaded a 1.9GB-sized Nikon folder into Movavi Photo Manager, the overall loading time, recognizing landscape features, faces, etc felt definitely smoother. I also liked how Movavi Photo Manager took only a few minutes to fully categorize my uploaded photo folder (obviously with a relatively "small" folder size of 1.9GB which is quite reasonable for non-professional photo takers). Movavi Photo Manager also has a great success rate in categorizing "Similar Photos"; good enough when I just wanted 1 or 2 photos of the same scenery to be quickly shared on social media or to be sent to friends and famiy. Movavi Photo Manager also works great if I upload GPS-tagged photos from my iPhone (not applicable when working with my plain, old Nikon camera). Last but not least, I liked the batch processing function of this software; for example, I'd just select a bunch of photos that were incorrectly oriented then use the rotate function to correct them in one go. What do you dislike about Movavi Photo Manager for Mac?

1. Tagging photos to common categories like "Landscape", "People", "Travel", etc, is a 4-click endeavor which is cumbersome when working with a large collection of photos. I kinda wish that such popular function had its own dedicated functional button that would save me a lot of time.

2. The default orientation when showing thumbnail images is strictly in landscape (horizontal only). Thus any portrait shots that I took in vertical orientation will only display the body part of the person who was being photographed. This makes selecting the best portrait shot of the bunch cumbersome as I am unable to view the facial expression to finalize my decision on which portrait shot to select. Recommendations to others considering Movavi Photo Manager for Mac:

If your Macs are newer with faster processors and you do not find MacOS' Photos app too cumbersome and too slow to use, then Movavi Photo Manager might not be for you as it is a paid software (although Movavi company may offer some kind of trial downloads to test the it). Also bear in mind that this software was first introduced in 2018 or 2019 and since then, only piecemeal updates were offered, and of late, Movavi company seems to be pushing for a totally new replacement of Movavi Photo Manager (the new name escapes me, though). What problems is Movavi Photo Manager for Mac solving and how is that benefiting you?

I found that using MacOS' native solution with Photos app was getting more clunkier as my Macbook continues to age and OS updates by Apple are focused on newer and higher-specced Macs. Movavi Photo Manager came into the picture as a great solution; the software was released a few years ago when my Macbook specs were still decent. As for the functionalities of these two software, the features were more or less the same but what tipped in Movavi Photo Manager's favor is how it can still reasonably run well in older-specced Macbook like mine.
