I use Morningstar Direct Advisory Suite to advise a large client on their 401k menu, which is primarily mutual funds. I like the comprehensiveness of the data and Morningstar's analysis, including their gold and metal ratings that summarize risk and quality of a fund. I find the naming of Morningstar's products confusing. There's Morningstar Investor, Morningstar, Morningstar Advisor Workstation, and Morningstar Direct Advisory Suite, making it difficult to keep them straight. When talking to colleagues and clients, it gets jumbled up, and everyone, including me, finds it very confusing. I also wish Morningstar had more comprehensive information on variable annuities. While they have some data, it's not complete, and some annuity providers have told me that Morningstar doesn't provide a universal ID system like a ticker for stocks or funds. Additionally, when needing support, it's frustrating because you have to know exactly which product you're using.
