## Moodle Reviews
 ### 1. So much better than expected. Update after a year.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Training Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Having the ability to use off the shelf standard trainings and create our own has been a perfect blend to meet our employee needs. We can roll our a basic fire safety training and then supplement with customized and targeted trainings to different departments and locations. Their helpdesk has been super quick to answer all of my questions.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

They have amazing options for creating content using H5P. There are two content types - branching scenario and interactive video have had some glitches.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of visibility has been completely changed. We did not have an LMS prior and Moodle is able to take our multi-page training checklist and mimic it then add features and so notes are available and digital signatures all while being visible from any shift to the department manager and safety and HR. There are general training topics that we are able to use profession SCORM packages and they work very well. We are also able to create and implement our own internal trainings and the variety of content delivery through Moodle means our employees don't simply get PowerPoints and PDF's, they get interactive e-learning and the possibility of multiple ways to check for understanding.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Ryan,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review!

We're delighted to hear that Moodle's flexibility, ease of use, and mobile accessibility are having such a positive impact on your organisation. It's especially rewarding to know that our implementation support helped ease the transition and that you're seeing meaningful benefits like improved training visibility, streamlined digital tracking, and more engaging content delivery.

It’s great to see Moodle supporting your shift from paper-based checklists to a more transparent and interactive learning environment. Thank you again for sharing your experience – we're proud to be part of your learning journey!

Moodle Team

 ### 2. Moodle: Mature, flexible, and Open Source LMS with a huge community and ecosystem of plugins

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alfredo G. | Moodle Expert, creador de contenidos e instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle has many advantages: it is a mature LMS, with many years of development, and it is also the most used LMS in the world. This means there is a large community of support and development around it. You will almost always find someone to help you, some reference video, and very well-developed and consolidated documentation over the years.

This maturity also means that practically everything is covered, and that the platform is flexible and adaptable to different scenarios. Being Open Source, it has no licensing cost. It has more than 2300 plugins developed by the community, which allows for additional integrations and functionalities to be added to the core.

Starting from version 4.3, integration with different AI providers is already included, and more and more plugins are appearing to meet different requirements with the help of AI. Finally, being Open Source, it offers great possibilities to customize the interface design and adapt it to the needs of the institution.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Being such a complete and flexible LMS, there is a learning curve that is not exponential, but it is long if one wants to master the tool thoroughly. On the other hand, being Open Source, its installation is not difficult; however, it is not easy to implement the correct infrastructure, especially on large platforms, for example with more than 5,000 users. A poor configuration can considerably decrease the platform's performance.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle addresses the need to implement platforms for comprehensive learning management, oriented towards the student's experience. Being modular, it adapts to different teaching models and allows you to create spaces just as you imagine them, according to your specific needs.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Thanks Alfredo, for taking the time to review Moodle. We really appreciate your level of detail.

 ### 3. Powerful, Flexible Open-Source LMS That Adapts to Our Institution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frédéric G. | Educational Technology Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I like that Moodle is a powerful, flexible open‑source LMS that we can really adapt to our institutional needs instead of adapting our practices to the tool.

More specifically, I appreciate that:

The overall architecture is very modular, with plugins for almost everything (question types, activities, reports, integrations), so we can extend it instead of changing platform every few years.

It offers rich pedagogical features out of the box (quizzes, assignments, forums, workshops, rubrics, learning analytics, competencies) that support both traditional and more innovative teaching approaches.

Being open‑source, Moodle gives us control over data, updates and branding, which is important in a public higher‑education context.

The large community (plugins, documentation, forums) makes it easier to find solutions, good practices and examples from other institutions similar to ours.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

I dislike that Moodle can feel complex and sometimes inconsistent for end users, especially new teachers who have to navigate many settings and configuration options.

More specifically, I find that:

The overall interface and UX still look a bit dated and cluttered compared to some newer LMSs, which can discourage less tech‑savvy users.

Some configuration pages and advanced settings are scattered and not always intuitive, so admin and support work often involves a lot of “where is that option again?” time.

Because it is so feature‑rich and extensible, it can be hard to maintain a simple, coherent experience when many plugins and customizations are enabled.

Major version upgrades sometimes require careful testing of themes and plugins, which adds overhead for administrators and can delay access to new features.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle centralizes our digital teaching and assessment in one place, which solves the problem of scattered tools and inconsistent practices across courses and teachers.

Concretely, it helps us to:

Standardize course delivery and assessment workflows so students always know where to find content, submit work, and see their grades, reducing confusion and support requests.

Support blended and online learning at scale, with quizzes, assignments, forums and SCORM activities that teachers can reuse from semester to semester instead of rebuilding everything.

Provide better tracking and analytics on student progress so teachers and program leaders can identify at‑risk students earlier and intervene in a more targeted way.

Integrate with our existing institutional systems (like Microsoft tools) so authentication, access and course creation are streamlined rather than managed manually.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Frédéric! Thank you for this incredibly detailed review. Glad you are enjoying using Moodle!

 ### 4. Unmatched Flexibility and Customization with Moodle’s Open-Source LMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco M. | Senior Project & Program Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

As an administrator who has worked with Moodle across multiple client environments, what stands out most to me is its flexibility and open-source nature. No other LMS offers the same level of control over customization—whether it’s branding, plugins, workflows, or integrations—without the constraints that come with licensing.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Administrative complexity is a recurring challenge for me. Moodle is powerful, but that power comes at a cost: the configuration options are extensive and not always logically organized. As a result, it’s easy for less experienced admins to misconfigure something or get lost in deeply nested settings.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For clients with limited budgets but complex requirements, Moodle has been especially valuable. It makes it possible to build a fully functional learning ecosystem—covering course management, certifications, blended learning, and SCORM/xAPI content—without recurring licensing costs that would otherwise make the project unsustainable.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Thanks Marco, for this great review. We appreciate you taking the time!

 ### 5. Moodle's flexibility is the best.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernadette A. | Learning and Development Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Initially, I had some reservations about Moodle since I wasn’t very familiar with it, especially having used other platforms like Docebo. But after three weeks of testing courses and extracting analytics, I can confidently say that it is very user-friendly and efficient. What sets Moodle apart from other platforms is that it has flexibility and customization option s. It allows for more control over the course design, enabling instructors to tweak and adjust content more easily. I'd say Moodle is a very powerful tool, it has so much flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

One thing I dislike is that I'm unable to install additional plug-ins since I have Moodle Cloud. I was hoping to use certain templates that require plug-ins, as they would help make our business' LMS appear more organized and conducive to learning.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As our business grows, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to track training for both new hires and senior staff. Our training materials are currently scattered across ShareFolders and various group chats, which makes it difficult for staff to find them easily. A lot of time is spent simply trying to find the right training resources. By implementing Moodle as our official LMS, we can centralize training delivery and track everyone’s progress. It will also provide a single place where staff can easily find materials, whether they need a refresher or want to take a course for their personal and professional growth.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Bernadette,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re delighted to hear that Moodle’s flexibility and customisation options have helped you design and manage courses more effectively. It’s great to know that the platform’s ease of use and analytics have supported your training needs and helped centralise your learning resources.

MoodleCloud is designed to be an off-the-shelf solution. If you’re looking for more control and flexibility, we recommend exploring Moodle LMS or Moodle Workplace, both of which allow plugin installations and advanced customisation options.

 ### 6. Swiss army knife of

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JP d. | Web Developer IT manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Any question I've had, someone has already asked and answered in the forums.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Setting up and hosting it does require some technical know-how (or a good IT person), but the online community is massive and incredibly helpful.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We transitioned to Moodle a couple of years ago to deliver our professional training courses, and it has truly transformed our workflow. Being open-source, Moodle allowed us to tailor the platform precisely to our requirements, including incorporating our own logo and branding throughout the site. The range of available plugins is impressive; we easily found solutions for certificates, payment processing, and webinar integration, which made Moodle an ideal choice for us.

While setting up and maintaining Moodle does demand some technical expertise—or at least a reliable IT specialist—the vast online community is a tremendous resource. Whenever I've had a question, I've found that someone else has already encountered the same issue and provided answers in the forums.

For our students, Moodle offers a straightforward, centralized hub for all their learning materials. Although it may not have the sleekness of some corporate systems, it is dependable, secure, and fulfills all our needs without tying us to an expensive subscription. In many ways, it's the Swiss Army knife of learning platforms.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi JP,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Moodle! We're delighted to hear how the platform has supported your organisation in delivering professional training and that the ability to tailor it to your branding and workflows has made a real difference.

 ### 7. My Experience Using Moodle in University Teaching - Reliable Platform for Streamlined Teaching

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dr. Sheerali A. | Learning Delivery Adjunct / Subject Matter Expert, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I like Moodle because it is reliable and easy to use for daily teaching. All course materials, assessments, grades, and announcements are in one place. It helps me stay organised and ensures students can easily access learning resources anytime.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Sometimes Moodle feels slow or cluttered, especially when managing multiple courses. The new interface could be more visually modern and intuitive. Certain features require too many clicks, which can be time-consuming during busy teaching periods.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle solves the problem of managing teaching, assessments, and communication in one platform. It benefits me by saving time, improving consistency, tracking student progress, and supporting flexible learning for students both inside and outside the classroom.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Dr Sheerali! Thank you so much for this lovely review.

We love sharing reviews like this with our team, so we appreciate the time you have taken to give such thoughtful, considered feedback.

Regards,

Moodle

 ### 8. Decent, but lacking

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** J N. | Applications Analyst II, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle's open-source architecture and plugin-friendly environment make for a platform that can be fully customized to fit your needs... provided that you have the programming skills to create the plugins that you need. There are many available community plugins that can expand the base features but should be installed with some trepidation as just as many have not been maintained or documented sufficiently.

Learners find navigating the platform to be easy and enjoy its look-and-feel. Instructors for content that are more similar to "higher education learning" find the gradebooks to be intuitive and like the access control they have to release content on a schedule.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

The paid "Workplace" edition of Moodle offers a handful of additional features that would not otherwise be present, but these features fall considerably short of what the competition has to offer. That being said, their price is considerably cheaper than the alternatives. Future buyers should spend additional time during the discovery period to ensure that all needs will be met without relying on 3rd party plugins before making a decision.

Setting up the platform is complex as implementing new changes require you to navigate through many menus and sub-menus and even more hidden sub-sub-sub-menus where a single toggle can be the difference between proper access and frustration for end users. Documentation of these features is frequently lackluster and often outdated, referencing past versions that have received significant updates since. Customer Support is slow, but the Learning Designers on their team are empathetic and will take the time to research any inquiries and provide workarounds if the software does not function as expected "out-of-the-box".

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle is, at the end of the day, a platform with higher education in mind. This includes features such as gradebooks and more interactive activities for student learning.
While it lacks the features that would make it an adequate corporate learning environment, these "education" features make it worthwhile exploring for certain types of programs (such as our apprenticeships).

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi J.N.,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re glad to hear that Moodle’s open-source flexibility, intuitive navigation, and gradebook features are serving your learners and instructors well, especially for programs like apprenticeships where those strengths really shine.

It’s great to know our Learning Designers have been able to support you with empathy and practical solutions, and we’ll continue working hard to enhance the overall experience. Thank you again for your insights; they help us make Moodle stronger for all users.

Regards,
The Moodle Team

 ### 10. Easy-to-Use Tool for Tracking Student Marks and Remarks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prathamesh B. | intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

The feature that allows us, as teachers, to check every student’s marks and remarks is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

There isn’t really anything I don’t like about it. It’s better, and it’s easy to use.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the issues of managing and monitoring student data, and it also makes it easy to create and give tests to students.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Prathamesh! Thank you, we are so glad you are enjoying using Moodle, and we appreciate you taking the time to review our LMS.
