## About Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)
Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (MKE) is the industry’s leading enterprise Kubernetes platform, designed to provide organizations with total control over their strategic infrastructure. Powering some of the world’s largest production clusters, MKE 4 introduces a 100% open-source, "composable" architecture based on k0s. This shift allows platform engineers to precisely tailor their stack by swapping in validated CNCF ecosystem components for networking, ingress, and storage, avoiding the "black box" limitations of proprietary distributions. MKE delivers an "enterprise-ready" experience out of the box, featuring a convenient web UI, declarative lifecycle management, and automated drift correction. It uniquely supports a converged infrastructure, allowing organizations to manage both containerized workloads and virtual machines (via KubeVirt) on a single platform. For mission-critical environments, MKE maintains a rigorous focus on security with FIPS 140-2 encryption and a hardened, DISA STIG-certified foundation. Whether running on-premises, in the cloud, or at the edge, MKE provides the stability, performance, and flexibility required for modern cloud-native applications and generative AI workloads.

 ### 1. Comprehensive Platform with Some Cost and Stability Drawbacks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lynda J. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

I utilize Mirantis Kubernetes Engine primarily for container orchestration and microservices deployment. It acts as a foolproof solution by organizing our services, labeling workloads easily, and providing reliable container isolation. The robust cluster management capability, combined with excellent environmental replication tools, makes it easy to replicate precise staging and production environments, which is great for debugging and isolating bugs. Additionally, the built-in alert management system provides clear visibility over our active networks. I appreciate the customizable image repositories, which allow us to tailor our deployment workflows exactly how we want them. The initial configuration and installation are quite manageable, and setting up basic networking parameters is straightforward. The platform helped break our software into lighter isolated micro servers, which consume less space and enhance user experience with faster and more responsive applications. Overall, Mirantis Kubernetes Engine is an incredibly powerful platform for optimizing workload management and accelerating microservices development.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

The biggest downside is the steep licensing cost required to access the platform's premium features, along with some noticeable stability quirks when dealing with Windows environments. While it technically supports multiple operating systems, containers run significantly better on Linux. We've faced configuration bottlenecks and occasional application crashes when trying to manage setups on Windows 10 and above. The deeper interface can also become overly complex to navigate, and tracking down certain uncorrected system errors is frustrating.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Mirantis Kubernetes Engine to simplify unorganized workloads, manage clusters, and distribute workloads efficiently. It helps replicate environments for debugging, offers customizable workflows, and provides robust container management and isolation.

 ### 2. Streamlines Deployment, Clunky Container Logs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leon H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

I like that Mirantis Kubernetes Engine solves the significant challenge of a long time to market and operational friction during production releases. The standout feature for me is the highly friendly and consistent command format used to execute cluster tasks effectively.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

The primary complaints I have as a systems administrator is the highly clunky and inefficient way the platform forces us to read containers. Right now, our engineers have to manually run more CLI commands just to pull log information and display it across the terminals. This process is incredibly restrictive and time-consuming, especially when trying to isolate bugs across hundreds of running containers.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mirantis Kubernetes Engine speeds up our time to market and reduces operational friction in production releases, while providing a user-friendly command format for executing cluster tasks.

 ### 6. MKE is a solid product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim R. | It Sr. Application Architect/UPoint Systems Technical Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

I've used MKE (formerly UCP) for almost 7 years now. We use it in Swarm mode and have hundreds of nodes with thousands of containers running. I love that we can have any number of worker nodes and our own internal trusted registry. In general it's fairly easy to use. In its simplest form, you can quickly setup a swarm, deploy services and containers. In terms of bells and whistles, you can get very fine tune with security and setup teams. In terms of customer support, Mirantis has always been helpful when we had issue. One other cool feature is that we can run in a mixed mode. I love the simplicity of swarm with the ability of using secrets, configurations, health checks and simple stack files to deploy services. Compared to Kubernetes in AWS, swarm on MKE is much simpler to learn.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

In the early days, MKE used to have a lot of problems with th gossip protocol. I found myself asking for help only to have Mirantis pull out some magic rethink db commands. The releases over the last two years have really stabilized the product. The biggest challenge for me as an administrator is that some of the operations are very black box. I'd love to see more searchable documentation on the inner workings of MCR and MKE.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mirantis allows us to write APIs and containerize the deployments. Using a containerized strategy over a monolothic deployment significantly reduces the risks to deployments. While containers is not a Mirantis concept, Mirantis helps enable a containerization strategy.

 ### 7. Solid Performance and Feature Availability

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Defense & Space | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

I've used this product back when it was Docker Enterprise for business purposes and haven't really had any complaints. In the start, I did use the non-K8s version more as we were fledgling when it came to containerization and container management, but have evolved. What makes it good is it's a pretty straightforward flavlor of K8s and has just about everything I think most people would want or need. Operation is easy to use and there are no technical hurdles we've faced using it. While I barely use support, support has been helpful.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

So far, I have no complaints. I only use the command line version, therefore I cannot comment on any GUI apps.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Management and orchestration of multiple containerized services with minimal human intervention. This makes their operations more reliable and reduces human error and time behind the keyboard.

 ### 8. A pretty good container orchestration platform for cloud native apps scaling across multi cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Parth G. | Lead I Cloud engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

The most useful part is the MKE UI. This simplifies the task of running and administering your k8s workload for people who don't like the cli or are new to kubernetes. The installation process is pretty simple and makes the day 2 operations easy for admins. This also comes with good customer support.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

The documentation is something I did not like much. The enterprise support portal for mirantis (MKE and MSR) is not that user friendly and can be improved

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

an enterprise constantly questions where to run the containerized workload and how to move to kubernetes with less knowledge and experience. I think MKE helps to solve this day 1 challenges of getting a platform to run k8s workloads.

 ### 9. Review of Mirantis Kubernetes Engine

The Khanbank is the Mongolian Biggest bank. we transform to the DevOps & Cloud approach since 2019. MKE's installation, transformation, integration is very easy and understandable, and we using MSR and other features like a bundle.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

Customer support. Our team is new to the cloud technology and techniques. The support engineers are can't solve the issue then we fixing 1 by 1 work arround solutuions.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloud native technology.

 ### 10. Improve the speed and management of your Kubernetes clusters.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yazmine B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

The initial configuration of containers is easy at first, the editing of the container in question is manageable, the ability to manage alerts within the platform to manage the networks you are working on is another very attractive feature of Mirantis. Software and applications can be managed within the platform, it is very space-saving. Another attractive offering is the ability to manage clusters for cloud services, the software is very robust and capable of balancing workloads, the repositories are fully customizable, the installation and configuration of the service is generally manageable. The environment can be applied to both Windows and Linux operating system, the creation of virtual machines and the handling of container images is really amazing. Options for replicating environments benefit for bug fixes, improving development and debugging issues.

**What do you dislike about Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)?**

Some problems in the configuration for Windows 10 and higher environments. The interface despite being easy to configure at the beginning, can be complex to understand, to have access to the best features of the service you have to pay a little high costs. Containers work much better with Linux, I do not recommend its use with Windows. Some stability problems, as well as some applications crashes that we are managing within platform, many errors are not corrected.

**What problems is Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We implemented Mirantis containers to make applications we developed lighter, which gives better access and allows them to be easier to use, no doubt it is a foolproof solution for complex problems in the area of software management. Workloads stopped being a problem since we implemented Mirantis, it is very organized and everything works, workloads can be easily labeled and allows everything to be more workable within the organization. Currently, we are also implementing the program for microservices development, as it offers excellent solutions in Dockers containers and isolation, scaling and fully balancing the traffic load.
