I like how MileCatcher eliminates a lot of guesswork and manual verification from our mileage reimbursement workflows at Academic Campus Partners, our small higher‑education institution with roughly 38 employees. Before adopting this tool, every faculty member turned in mileage numbers via shared Google Sheets. I still remember that September incident with one of our adjunct history professor, who submitted rough self‑estimated miles for his off‑campus community lecture. I spent nearly two hours cross‑checking map routes and firing off back‑and‑forth emails just to validate his claim, and his reimbursement payment got held up for multiple business days. It automatically calculates trip mileage when staff log their drives, allowing faculty to simply record trips and generate ready‑to‑review reports. When our science instructors head out for environmental field‑study visits or drive to inter‑campus meetings, they just start logging on their phones instead of scribbling down odometer readings. Exporting these reports smoothly for payroll processing also reduces the chances of typos and data mistakes. The direct logging through MileCatcher saves me a ton of administrative busywork and takes pressure off our faculty as they no longer need to manually add up miles. Additionally, being able to export the finalized mileage totals gives me structured files to feed into our 247HRM system, enhancing efficiency in processing reimbursements. I love how realistically focused MileCatcher is, without unnecessary extra features, perfectly catering to our HR team's needs. We don’t have a large dedicated finance department, so this lightweight tool hits exactly what we require for faculty travel expense management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find that mobile performance becomes spotty in areas with poor cellular coverage, like around our remote field‑research locations and parts of our main campus. For instance back in October, one of our biology faculty members was out conducting wetland field work. Cell reception was extremely weak out at that site, and MileCatcher's app failed to save his full trip log. He only noticed the missing record once he drove back to campus. He had to reconstruct his whole driving route from memory, and I wasted significant time cross‑referencing his reconstructed trip details, which delayed his reimbursement. The app lacks reliable offline‑mode support which would be hugely beneficial for staff working in those signal‑poor off‑campus locations. I also think the integration options are limited. We mainly get CSV exports, and there's no native API or direct sync with our primary HR system, 247HRM. I have to manually export, clean, and import data, which risks small copy‑paste errors when processing multiple faculty claims at the end of each pay cycle. Additionally, setting up MileCatcher wasn't completely smooth. While basic admin account setup was quick, onboarding our less tech‑savvy faculty and adjunct instructors took extra effort. Several older teaching staff struggled to remember starting and stopping trip recording. Adjusting export templates for our internal employee ID fields was also a hassle since it required manual tweaks every time I generated a report. None of these issues break our workflow entirely, but they add avoidable administrative overhead for our small 38‑person campus HR team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
