I've used the online piece a little before, but this 2020-21 school year kinda forced me to really look at a number of tools that I could really adopt for instruction. One of the reasons I think I was drawn to the SLSO platform is that I felt like with my students already being comfortable with SMART products (like me) and seeing what the SLSO was offering, it would make for an easier transition, especially being that we would start the year offering a three (3) instructional delivery methods (F2F, virtual, hybrid). It makes it easy to turn your learning content into interactive lessons that engage your students on a whole new level, whether they’re learning in class, remotely, or on their own time. **What do you dislike about Lumio?** I honestly don't have any dislikes just yet. A lot of our teachers prefer creating their class presentations through Smart Notebook rather than Powerpoint as it iss more robust and intuitive to use. When the SMART Boards work, they integrate flawlessly with the Notebook software to allow a great interactive teaching experience. **What do you dislike about Lumio?** The Smart Boards themselves feel more like oversized neutered Android phones and are extremely limited in their capabilities. We have consistent issues with the screen casting on about 30% of the boards deployed at our school. Our vendor technicians have not been able to resolve the issues over many, many service visits. A lot of the time the best solution we can provide is to factory reset the board and hope it makes it through the day before it inevitably malfunctioning again. **Recommendations to others considering Lumio:** Despite the headaches with the boards, the software itself is great and our teachers really like it. I would recommend having teachers trial the software first and weigh the pros and cons. If they dislike the software then I'd highly discourage forcing them to move over. **What problems is Lumio solving and how is that benefiting you?** The Notebook software allows the teachers to both plan ahead and adapt to every class, as each day is different. They enjoy the easy to use suite of tools available to them and can focus more on teaching rather than fiddling around with software. ### 11. They help you not only understand the material more, but it also helps you study and prepare for exams. It’s also a bonus that the textbooks (if purchased digitally) can be pulled up from the suite as well. **What do you dislike about Lumio?** I dislike that some of the assignments were very long and tedious. I also dislike that there were a few glitches throughout the assignments. **What problems is Lumio solving and how is that benefiting you?** You are solving the use of paper problems. Using the learning suite, you can eliminate any paper assignments and you don’t have to worry about physically turning in anything to your professors. ### 12. It enables you to create a variety of widgets, interactive activities and handouts that are student friendly and can be accessed from mobile devices or tablets for student ease. **What do you dislike about Lumio?** Some of the features from the desktop application for SMART notebook aren’t enabled on the Learning Suite online like graphic or animations for photos. This limits the interactive portion of the Notebook files. As well, some Learning suite online features don’t translate into the desktop app. **What problems is Lumio solving and how is that benefiting you?** SMART learning suite provided professional development opportunities for teachers in what was called a community of practice through the organization I work for. They had a liaison from SMART provide information directly to developers to help best suite learning needs for education. On their website however, they have a discussion board where you can submit suggestions for developer updates. ### 13. I can’t design lessons as easily in SLSO as I wish. I was asked by a teacher to convert my jpg art lessons to smart interactive ones and I am learning how to create appropriate activities for my lessons. **What do you dislike about Lumio?** I would like to see more tutorials for all the templates. Since I am new to this technology because my school never hooked up my smart board, I have a learning curve to make up! I find it easy to use but there are so many different features that I would appreciate more tutorials for both teachers and students. I found a few glitches and don't know how to report them. I would like to see a place for feedback on each activity. I would appreciate an online chat in real time with tech who could help me troubleshoot while creating. **Recommendations to others considering Lumio:** SMART is perfect for learning facts, rules and definitions. I would like to see a more direct application for coding and learning problem solving. I like how it can be used in the art room to develop proficiency in art elements and principles. It would be awesome to develop more creative uses in art.
