"Modular Architecture and Objects Make Liferay a Powerful, Upgrade-Friendly Platform"
5/5
What do you like best about Liferay Digital Experience Platform?

Three things stand out after several years of building B2B portals, intranets and customer self-service platforms on it.

1. The modular architecture. OSGi modules and, more importantly, Client Extensions let us keep custom code outside the platform container. A Vue or React frontend shipped as a client extension survives platform upgrades far better than the old theme-and-portlet approach, and it lives in our own CI/CD pipeline instead of inside the Liferay bundle.

2. Liferay Objects. For most business requirements we no longer need Service Builder modules. Objects give us data models, relationships, permissions, workflows, REST APIs and search out of the box, so a request like "partner application with approvals and a searchable list" becomes configuration plus a thin frontend instead of a Java project. That shortens delivery noticeably.

3. The enterprise plumbing is genuinely there: multi-site and multi-tenancy, a granular role and permission model, SSO via SAML/OIDC, localization, staging and publishing, audit trails. Serving customers, partners and internal staff from one instance with different content and permissions saves a lot of custom code.

Headless REST/GraphQL APIs also make ERP/CRM integration (we do a lot of Odoo and SAP) straightforward, and the quarterly releases with LTS versions give a predictable upgrade path. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Liferay Digital Experience Platform?

Redundant ways to solve the same problem with different upgrade costs, heavy upgrades for customized instances. Licensing is enterprise-priced, which is hard to justify in the mid-market which only uses a small part of Liferay's capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
