Let's Encrypt most notable feature is that it's free. It's provided Open Source without the typical upselling efforts of other free products. Impressively, Let's Encrypt was created with the primary goal of making using the web safer for everyone. As a sign of it's legitimacy, Let's Encrypt is supported by Google, Mozilla, the Electronic Frontier Foundation as well as other major corporations and foundations.
Fortunately, it's also generally very reliable. Over the years, we have had very few issues securing new sites and keeping them safely encrypted.
Let's Encrypt is also widely supported and usually easy to add to a website. Many web-hosting companies offer one-click installation via cPanel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This is not a criticism, but Let's Encrypt is not for every situation. If you have highly sensitive transactions, you should use premium encryption solutions. For example, Let's Encrypt does not provide Extended Validation (EV SSL) Certificates which prove who the website owner is.
It should also be noted that some large hosting companies do not make adding Let's Encrypt certificates easy. These hosting companies do this so they can sell you their own premium encryption products. However, to me, this is a mark against those hosting companies and not Let's Encrypt. (We use a top notch hosting company with easy Let's Encrypt implementation.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
