## About KeePass
KeePass is a free, open-source password manager designed to securely store and manage your passwords in an encrypted database. It supports multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, and offers portability without requiring installation. KeePass employs strong encryption algorithms like AES and ChaCha20 to ensure the safety of your sensitive information. Key Features and Functionality: - Strong Security: KeePass encrypts the entire database, including usernames and notes, using robust algorithms such as AES and ChaCha20. It also utilizes SHA-256 for hashing master key components, providing protection against dictionary and guessing attacks. - Multiple User Keys: Users can secure their databases with a master password, a key file, or a combination of both. Additionally, KeePass 2.x allows locking the database to the current Windows user account for enhanced security. - Portability and Accessibility: KeePass is portable and can run directly from a USB stick without installation. It doesn't store data on the system, leaving no traces after deletion. The software also offers an optimized user interface for screen readers, enhancing accessibility. - Data Import and Export: KeePass supports importing from and exporting to various formats, including TXT, HTML, XML, and CSV, facilitating easy database transfer and integration with other applications. - Password Groups and Management: Users can organize passwords into groups, set expiration dates, and attach files to entries. KeePass also includes a strong random password generator to create secure passwords. - Auto-Type and Drag & Drop: The software features auto-type functionality and global auto-type hotkeys, allowing users to input credentials into other applications seamlessly. Drag & drop support further simplifies the process. - Plugin Architecture: KeePass offers a plugin architecture, enabling users to extend its functionality according to their needs. Primary Value and User Solutions: KeePass addresses the challenge of managing multiple passwords by providing a secure, centralized repository for all credentials. Its strong encryption ensures that sensitive information remains protected, while features like auto-type and password generation enhance user convenience. ## KeePass Reviews
 ### 1. Great password manager. And open-source!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Investment Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

KeePass is one of the most secure password managers in my opinion. Because when you use KeePass, you know that its algorithms are open to read to anyone and that you can be sure that there are no government-sponsored backdoors in it. This is a really important factor in today's day and age with cyber crime steadily on the rise. Backdoors can not only be exploited by the "good" guys (US intelligence services), but also by the bad guys (hackers trying to steal your identity).

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Unfortunately there is no official Mac client available yet. However, it is possible to use the password database basically anywhere, but you have to use a slightly different software to do so. On Mac OSX there is KeePassX, for example.

The homepage could be a little bit better, though, and tell the user about other software projects in and around the KeePass universe.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

It's only truly cross-platform if you consider these pieces of software as a whole system, even though they are from different people:

- KeePass for Windows
- KeePassX for OSX
- Keepass2Android Password Safe for Android

But that's the beauty of open-source. Everybody can pitch in to make something useful together!

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is completely insecure to rely on the same or similar passwords across multiple services. That way the compromise of one unlocks all the others and sends you into chaos.

KeePass is the only thing that helps me keep track of all the different passwords that I use to avoid this.

 ### 2. Control what to do with your passwords

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

- I decide what to do with the password database (kdb/kdbx file).
- Data does not go into 3rd party servers (unless you do it by yourself).
- Different options to handle the database (Kepass, KepassX, MacPass, MiniKeepass, etc).
- Open Source.
- DB's are easy to maintain and use, just select the account, copy the user, then the password and you're done.
- You can copy the info without having to showing it into the screen.
- Helps to generate string passwords, shows info of how secure they are as you save them.
- The main focus is for accounts (username+password), but it also allows you to include notes, files or any other custom field for that important data you want to save.
- Databases can be secure by a master password or a secure file. Make sure you don't lose/share that file!

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

- Poor support on browsers (speaking of plugins).
- Not all the clients are open source.
- If your DB file gets corrupted, you may lose all your passwords.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

- May be difficult to use the first time
- Make sure you find the correct client for you, sometimes people tend to download the KeePass app without knowing there are other options to handle the KeePass file.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- I don't like the idea of using a single password for all my accounts, so I used to save them in a piece of paper. KeePass helps to encrypt that piece of paper in a digital source and also helps you finding the account the moment I need it.
- I only have to remember 1 single password, so I can make sure it's the strongest I use, if for some reason I need to change multiple passwords, it helps me creating them and I just save them instantly.

 ### 3. Does what it is intended to do.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt S. | Founder, Computer & Network Security, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Keeps passwords secure and reliably accessible.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

The interface could be more intuitive. It is a bit clunky.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nice tidy place for all our most important passwords.

 ### 4. Lovely software, great idea - and surprisingly good execution.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frederik Fredslund L. | Consultant, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

The open source nature of the software is critical to it's success, and that is where it stands out from the rest.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

The Windows-based nature of the software can be a bit cumbersome to deal with - more so, I use mac, thus I have begun to use MacPass instead, which is compatible with KeePass.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Look up alternative implementations, when the original software is poorly support or unsupported on your platform, eg. Mac / Android.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to sleep at night due to the nature of using one password, and one password only, for each and every site I use, thus not having one site compromise the security of another.

 ### 5. Robust open-sourse cross-platform (windows, nix, android) soultion for password management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Open sourse.
Cross-platform.
Plugins.
Usability.
Perfectly fits personal password management requirements.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Development velocity could be more smooth. But similar situation with almost all open source solutions.
Different platform solutions provided by different developers, so cross-platform use cases can be limited.
But basic cross-platform compatibility on read-only level exists. In 99% cases it is enough, because basicaly only one device is used to password database editing. Others are read only.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Perfect open source personal password management solution.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Password management and robust password base encryption wito composite key and standard well known and widely used encryption algorithms. Passwords security and passwords autofill functionality (through plugins and browser extensions, for example).

 ### 6. I've been using KeePass to store all of my passwords for about four years.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Derek E. | Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Ease of use and the ability to have my passwords encrypted. Quite nice since you can secure it with both a password and key file.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

It would be nice if there was an online version I could tie into it with. But I suppose LastPass fills that niche.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Nice and simple. Easy to use. Secure.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't have to write my passwords down or store them insecurely somewhere.

 ### 7. This software solved all the daily password-related problems

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Riccardo I. | Graphic designer, Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

It keeps all the password in one place, you have to remember just one password, it can generate safe password and you can schedule the password generation. Can copy on the fly passwords and user names and paste them whereever you want, i love this software.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Maybe the user interface could be enhaced, it is a little bit in the 90's mood

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

If you got daily password-related problems just like me, install it and forget all the passwords

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I installed it on each computer in my office because people kept forgetting their passwords, this solved the problem, and many of them keep thank me

 ### 8. Experience was good but being closed system its hard how secured it is

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sudhakar D. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Its open source and all my password is stored in local db which is much better. It also provides flexibility to use it on my own server or on cloud storage and can be used on any device

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Being open source constant updates coming up and installing the system is little difficult task.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storing password safe and encrypted at our own storage servers or on our own local device

 ### 9. Very good product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy N. | Technical Director, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Simple and cross platform windows Mac Android iPhone. Password gen is useful. I run several vaults.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Can't remote lock for if you want to kick a user out. They can back up the file and then you can't change the password on a file they have.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Do it, recommend it to your friends and family.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can store several thousand passwords in a secure file in Drop box and access it anywhere.

 ### 10. Free alternative to popular password managers

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arseniy K. | CTO, Investment Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

- Free
- Open source
- Comes recommended by Ed Snowden

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

- Slightly dated and not really user-friendly UI
- Lack of integrations out of the box, as opposed to 1Password (with browser extensions and mobile apps)

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Looking for a cheaper solution with an ability to co-operate on the password storage, as opposed to LastPass. Ended up with 1Password for Teams, due to seamless browsers integration, and cloud syncs for vaults.

On the usability side, there is however a good interface on top of Keypass https://github.com/antelle/keeweb

 ### 11. Old school

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tommy B. | IT Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

KeePass is very secure since you own the database file, and you can create a very complex master key. You can create multiple type of password, and generate very complex password when needed.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

The database file need to be synched manually (the plugins don't really work). You cannot share with team mate. Sometimes you get lost when you have multiple database version

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

You may want to evaluate more reach solution. LassPass for hosted, Password Vault Manager (Devolutions) for on-prem.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Secure password! Don't use spreadsheet or text files

 ### 12. KeePass: a lightweight, no-frills password manager

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

The simplicity and ease of use. It's not bogged down with extra features and does exactly what I need it to do.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Being unable to upload my passwords into the cloud somewhere so that I could access them from, say, my phone, but that's not what the software was designed for anyway.

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Keep in mind that there's no cloud component (it's just a standalone software), so your passwords will only be stored on the computer that you use Keepass on.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It just makes personal password management easy.

 ### 13. Simple, Secure and Effective Password Management Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David W. | IT Solution Architect, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2016

Simplicity. Keepass has exactly what is needed in a password management tool and nothing more.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

The interface, while effective, is dated.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keypass provides a secure method to store usernames and passwords for the miriad systems the modern employee uses on a daily basis without sacrificing security.

 ### 14. KeePass

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tilfried W. | Technical Sales Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

small, lightweight, portable, flexible (multiple database support), 2 factor authentication, auto-type username/passwords, remember history, add notes and files to credentials, auto-generate passwords

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

move entries between different databases is not easy

**Recommendations to others considering KeePass:**

Try the portable/desktop edition. Put the key on memory-sticks and hand them out to the people requiring access to the credential database(s). Assign a complex password as additional (2-factor) authentication. So one must know the password and have the stick to be able to access the data.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

keeping credentials secure, but available to the complete IT staff, based on access-level

 ### 15. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

I use it both at work and at home. The portable version is great to keep your personal password safe and with you at all times.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

It would be nice if it had some additional options such as two-factor authentication or security questions in case you forget the master password.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Generating and storing secure passwords.

 ### 16. Great product, and like the open format, but lacks polish

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Gambling & Casinos | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

I like having an open format that I can use a variety of different clients for, and across lots of platforms as well (Mac, PC, iOS and Android).

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Integrations with e.g. browsers aren't always there - I've been on a mostly unsupported branch on my Mac to get Chrome integration for months

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From password manager virgin, I now have quality passwords on most accounts, which is a big upgrade

 ### 17. Every day use of Keepass for various accounts and access tokens

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

I really like the keyfile feature so I can sync my kdb password database file across the cloud. The keyfile I never transmit through the cloud.

Second, I really like the auto insert feature (Ctrl+V) that really makes the use a breeze.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

KeepassX does not automatically lock itself when I suspend my laptop and wake it up from suspend. Somehow the timer does sleep too.

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fundamental research.

 ### 18. overall secure, and easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

too many setting options can be confusing

Not having to remember too many different passwords. This is safe and saves me time as I don't have to do forget password when I return to a site after a long time.

 ### 19. Great, but with some room for improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about KeePass?**

Stores passwords in a secure manner in a local file that's easy to share between devices using cloud storage. Has plugins available, including browser auto-complete. It's open, including the database protocol, allowing for interoperability with other software.

**What do you dislike about KeePass?**

Poor multi-platformness and less-than-ideal browser autocompletion. The software works great on Windows, pretty good on Linux, all but doesn't work on OS X and is nonexistent on Android (fortunately the open nature allows one to use other, compatible apps on these platforms).

**What problems is KeePass solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing strong, unique passwords for multiple websites and accounts.

 ### 22. KeePassX

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2016
