"Affordable backup with real private-key encryption"

5/5

What do you like best about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2?

I use the IDrive Mini 100GB plan for personal file storage, and the value at this price tier is what brought me in. The desktop app and web interface are both clean and uncluttered, so I set up my first scheduled backup in under ten minutes without reading documentation. The feature that matters most to me is the private encryption key. Setting my own key means IDrive itself cannot read my files, which is a real privacy commitment rather than a marketing claim, and it is the reason I trust it with personal documents. Performance has been solid: incremental backups run in the background without slowing my machine down, and restoring a single file takes only a few clicks rather than a full recovery process. For what I pay, getting both the storage and zero-knowledge encryption is strong value, and I am planning to move up to a larger storage tier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2?

The private encryption key is a genuine strength, but it comes with no safety net, and I do not think the setup flow signposts this clearly enough. If you lose that key, your data is permanently unrecoverable, and a first-time user could select that option without fully understanding the consequence. A stronger warning or a mandatory confirmation step would help. My first full backup also took considerably longer than I anticipated, which was manageable but worth knowing in advance. On onboarding, the initial setup was straightforward, but I worked most of it out by exploring the interface rather than being guided, so a short walkthrough on first launch would improve the experience. I have not needed any third-party integrations on a personal plan, so I cannot speak to how well that side works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2 solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before IDrive, all my personal documents and photos lived on local drives with no off-site copy, so a single drive failure, theft, or accidental deletion would have cost me years of files. I was manually copying folders to an external drive when I remembered to, which in practice meant every few months at best, and I was never confident the copy was current. Now backups run automatically on a schedule I do not have to think about, and my most recent version is always off-site. The zero-knowledge encryption is what made me willing to put personal documents in cloud storage at all, since I hold the only key and IDrive cannot read the contents. The practical benefit is that I have stopped spending an hour every few months on manual copying, and more importantly I no longer carry the low-level worry that my only copy of something is sitting on one machine.
