I find Holded's intuitive project-based time-tracking and invoicing module to be particularly useful. It allows our accounting staff to link billable hours directly to individual client engagements without complicated setup. This feature has made it easier to categorize hours by audit tasks and quickly generate draft client invoices from logged time entries. Holded falls short for US public accounting compliance workflows because its reporting tools cannot produce audit-ready workpapers we need for client review. I struggled to filter and export time-tracking records formatted for our official audit files while working on a local retail audit. It also has limitations in native integration with mainstream US tax software, and we lack the dedicated IT support to build custom connectors. Our team ends up spending extra hours manually reformatting exported Holded data to fit our firm’s documentation standards before filing deadlines. Additionally, we face frustrating limitations around user-permission granularity inside Holded. I could not restrict junior audit staff from viewing sensitive billing data belonging to other high-priority accounts because there is no way to lock down project-level access cleanly. This, combined with no in-house IT, means we rely on manual staff guidelines instead of system-enforced safeguards, creating avoidable data exposure risks for our client financial information. Configuring firm-specific accounting templates was tricky since there were no pre-built layouts matching US audit documentation standards, requiring extra hours for manual tweaking and workarounds.
