"Managed IPsec VPN solution that bridges on-premises networks with Google Cloud VPC infrastructure"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Google Cloud VPN?

✅ High Availability Architecture Excellence

The HA VPN implementation delivers exceptional resilience through dual-interface, dual-IP configuration providing 99.99% SLA availability. The automatic IP allocation from separate address pools ensures true redundancy, while BGP-based dynamic routing facilitates seamless failover scenarios. This architectural approach surpasses many competitors offering only 99.9% SLA guarantees.

✅ IPv6 Support with Dual-Stack Flexibility

Unlike Classic VPN, HA VPN provides comprehensive IPv6 support including dual-stack configurations. The implementation supports multiple BGP session types (IPv4, IPv6, and multiprotocol BGP) with configurable next-hop addresses. This future-proofs network infrastructure while maintaining backward compatibility.

✅ Performance Characteristics

Each tunnel supports up to 3 Gbps throughput with 250,000 packets per second capacity. The bandwidth scales effectively across multiple tunnels, and traffic remains within Google’s production network when connecting between Google Cloud resources. Performance metrics consistently show minimal latency impact during normal operations.

Cryptographic Customization

✅ The platform supports extensive IKE cipher configuration for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 negotiations. Support for AEAD and non-AEAD ciphers, combined with IKEv2 implementation, provides robust security customization options meeting compliance requirements.

✅ Integration with Google Cloud Ecosystem

Seamless integration with Cloud Router, VPC networks, and Network Connectivity Center creates a cohesive networking architecture. The service integrates effectively with Private Google Access for on-premises hosts and supports GRE traffic for SASE and SD-WAN implementations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Google Cloud VPN?

The multi-component pricing model combining gateway charges, tunnel costs, and data transfer fees creates budgeting challenges. Hourly gateway charges vary by tunnel count and region, while IPsec traffic incurs additional data transfer costs that can accumulate significantly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Google Cloud VPN solving and how is that benefiting you?

Cloud VPN eliminated the complexity of managing dedicated hardware VPN appliances while providing enterprise-grade connectivity. Organizations achieve seamless integration between on-premises infrastructure and Google Cloud resources without maintaining physical VPN equipment.

The IPsec implementation with configurable ciphers strengthened network security posture across hybrid deployments. ESP tunnel mode with authentication provides data protection during internet transit, while the managed service reduces security configuration errors common with self-managed solutions.
