Google Cloud Storage has been a reliable and straightforward solution for handling file storage across CargoX, from driver KYC documents to audio recordings used in our Speech-to-Text transcription pipeline. The integration with other Google Cloud services, like Speech-to-Text and Firebase, is seamless since everything sits within the same ecosystem, which simplified our architecture considerably. Performance for both uploads and retrievals has been fast and consistent even as our storage needs have grown, and the tiered storage classes let us manage costs effectively by moving infrequently accessed data to cheaper storage without extra engineering work. What do you dislike about Google Cloud Storage? Costs can be harder to predict at scale since pricing depends on a mix of storage class, retrieval frequency, and network egress, which makes forecasting monthly bills trickier compared to a flat-rate model. Navigating IAM permissions for more granular access control has a learning curve, especially when managing bucket-level policies across different teams and services. There's also no built-in intelligence for automatically optimizing storage class transitions based on actual usage patterns, so we've had to configure lifecycle rules manually rather than relying on any adaptive or AI-driven suggestions. Google Cloud Storage gives us a scalable, reliable place to store everything from driver KYC documents to call recordings processed through our Speech-to-Text pipeline, without needing to manage our own storage infrastructure. This has removed the operational overhead of maintaining physical or self-managed storage servers, while integrating cleanly with other Google Cloud services we already rely on. Tiered storage classes have also helped us control costs by automatically shifting older, less-accessed data to cheaper storage, which has kept our storage spend manageable as our platform's data volume continues to grow.
