What I like best about GoCardless is its seamless automation of recurring payments and direct debits. It reduces administrative effort and ensures timely transactions, making cash flow management simple and reliable for both businesses and customers.

I like the ease of taking payments automatically with GoCardless. The ease of use and setting up new accounts is beneficial, as creating the subscriptions and time frames is so simple. The initial setup of GoCardless was extremely easy, which adds to its value.

Nothing, it works really well for what I require.

I use GoCardless for taking client payments automatically. It's super easy to set up new accounts and create subscriptions with simple time frames.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

It help us a lot to collect payments from our partners using direct debit. It gives us security that we will receive, and we don’t need to wait too long or send many reminders. Most of the process is automatic, which save us a lot of time every month.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

In our personal case, we had some problems with the QuickBooks integration. The payments are not always matched correctly with the right invoices. It doesn’t mark the invoice as paid automatically like we expected, so our finance team still need to check and organize who paid what. It creates a bit more work for us, even if the money is already on our side.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

to avoid payment delays. Before, many partners forgot to pay or took too long. Now, we control the collection and we are sure that the money comes. Even if the integration is not perfect, we still prefer to have the money coming than waiting for someone to pay manually.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

We use GoCardless to charge our partners by Direct Debit. It works fine and helps us to be sure we will get the money. No more chasing people to pay invoices. Once the setup is done, it works almost automatic and gives peace of mind. We can focus on the work, not on payments.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

I think the fee is a bit high, especially if you have small payments. Also, it takes a few days until we get the money in our bank account after the client pays. I wish it was faster, like 2 days max. Sometimes we need the cashflow more quick.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before GoCardless we had to send reminders to our partners and wait a lot until they pay. Some forget, some delay, and that creates problems for our finance team. Now everything is automated. We can send the Direct Debit link once and next time the invoice is paid on time. Much more easy and less stress.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

I like that I don’t need to chase clients for payments anymore. We setup the Direct Debit one time and after that the money come on the right day. No stress, no need to send reminders. It save us lot of time and we know every invoice will be paid.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

Comissions are a bit high and it is difficult to convince clients to setup the DD mandate in the beginning, they get confused or think is complicated. Also the dashboard sometimes feel too much, I just want to see simple info fast. Support reply ok but sometimes take time.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before we was losing time sending emails and waiting clients to pay invoices. Sometimes they forget, or pay late, and that make problems for our cashflow. With GoCardless we just activate the Direct Debit and the payments come automatically. We don’t need to remind or ask again. It’s good to have control and no more overdue invoices.

Nothing in the slightest. This has been the moat unhelpful expereince in years. They should sell ironing boards instead.

Innaccurate Help content on website - regarding ACH forms for manual upload of clients
Support staff who give incorrect information, contradict website information
Asked to go onto new pricing plan even though you signed up to the correct plan tier - pricing changed in 4 weeks? 
Incorrect email address shared when asked to upgrade
No response form support team for 3 weeks after regular emails asking for support.

The fees and billing can be a little complex to work out sometimes - which as a small business you need to be aware of.

Allowing the billing of customers who use our services in a way that's cheaper than Stripe.

Integration with Xero, and the idea of monthly subscription payments, but that was all it was: an idea.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

Pretty much everything! Zero support, zero explanation for service interruption, zero to xero.

unfortunately none. It has created more problems. We were ready to implement the monthly subscription model and had the green light from GoCardless. As soon as we signed up the first client, they pulled the rug out from under us and we have not heard back from them in person since. Just cookie cutter email replies.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

Platform has a simple API for processing bacs payments. Six years ago this was maybe best in market but it is now showing its age and lacks some advanced billing features available from other companies who offer BACs such as Stripe etc

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

Not trustworthy. We process over 1/2 million+ per month in bacs transactions. After negotiating a volume discount a few years ago and spending a lot of time integrating GoCardless, they are now trying to raise rates to extortionate levels whilst adding on higher rates and fees for things that simply never existed before in this space such as far higher fees for refunds, failed payments, payment retries etc. It’s disappointing their management have adopted this strategy of trying to milk existing customers who have invested heavily in integration with GoCardless expecting them to accept far higher costs due to the difficulty  and cost of moving. We were already paying a premium for the platform vs the cheapest rates we were quotes by other providers in the market. I do not recommend this company and we will be going to market and looking for a more trustworthy BACS payment partner at the next renewal.

**Recommendations to others considering GoCardless:**

Avoid if you are a large volume processor and intend to invest in a long term partnership with them. As our experience with them has shown, despite them talking about building 'long term partnerships' at the beginning you may find after a few years GC trying to significantly increase your rates and invent new fees to the point where they are more expensive than processing card payments with none of the benefits. Anyone coming from years of processing BACs payments will understand how for volume customers it's not feasible and how ridiculous the new 'invented' additional charges are. For a small processor utilising a 3rd party integration platform the fees may make sense but shop around and don't pick platforms that lock you into only GoCardless.

Automation of bacs processing via APIs and web hooks. This allows for improved IT integration compared to old methods and systems involving flat files.

Nothing.  The entire point of a money transfer company is to transfer money.  So far, they haven't lived up to their side of the transaction.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

So far, its been over 9 days and the company still has my money.  

My account was approved in a flurry of emails with their verification dept.  The next day, I received an email which i missed that said, 'we need additional information before we can approve your account.'  This was after the company had charged my client's bank account.  

Even though I missed that email, I did log in to their system several times over several days to check status.  No notices that my account was on hold showed up anywhere.  

Now, even though my request was put on 'rush' status, there has been no response from the verification team.

Customer service has no power, and they refuse to escalate to someone in the company that does.  

Beyond this, the implementation and integration process with Xero is awful.  Multiple calls and emails to GoCardless customer service were required to get things to work.  

The system is also not easy to use if you have problems.  It looks straightforward from a design perspective, but if there are issues, its baffling.  What does "Payout" vs "Collected" mean?  Shouldn't an ACH transfer go straight from my client's bank to mine?  Instead, this seems to indicate that it sits in GoCardless' bank for a period of time.  This isn't explained anywhere.

Absolutely nothing
This is the worst payment processor I have ever worked with

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

You can NEVER get in contact with anyone at the company for support
Implementation was the worst experience I have ever had with a processor
After a very long and in-depth onboarding process, your receiving limit is incredibly low
Your account randomly gets flagged and deactivated with no contact from the support
When you try to reach out to support because your business can not receive payments to pay your expenses let alone your employees
Due to an error when they received payment from a client and then had a bank error on their side, they refused to pay out for months
Then after paying out the money after months they pulled money from my account and held it for ransom
Then after reaching out to them for 10 months, YES 10 months I finally got a vague response in which i promptly followed up every day for 3 weeks all to wait 4 more months for a response
Then I was put into collections 5 months later when I reached out to the collection agency they opened a case and I had to way 3 more months for a response even though I send an email once a week to get a status

This company is not in the business of solving a problem they are in the business of causing problems

It just takes the work from Direct Debits. It just ensures that I do not miss one.

Nothing, that I can think of right now. I have only been on the other side of it. My PT used it to take my payments.

It is minimisin the risk of me missing payments, it allows me to offload that from my brain so I can focus on other matters.

It's easy for the customer to submit the payment using the payment link.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

1. Even though they say they're available 24/7 for help, it takes a long time to get answers, and the answers aren't very good, so you end up sending lots of emails back and forth.

2. GoCardless doesn't provide a report to help you easily match your account balance with your financial records, which makes things complicated.

3. The information about fees can be confusing. When you're paying, it tells you the fee is limited to $4, but this rule doesn't apply to international payments. I get that international payments can cost more, but the big statement below the payment amount can mislead people.

Helps collect payments from people who don't have cards.

If you want to take the chance of having your money going through a system that has O support go for it. They took our first ACH out of a client's bank account, and it will not deposit in our account. Just get fail every time. We have changed and verified the bank account, sent them statements from our account etc. No one at GoCardless can give us even basic data about the failure.  They tell us to refund the customer so i can cancel our account, and we get an error that we have no funds in the account. Have used other services with the same banking info with no issues.

The software appeared to be really great and had many of the features I was looking for, but I never really got to use them. My account was approved and verified and then 12 hours later closed for no reason

Have a better approval and verification process. I completely onboarded and talked with multiple people only to get an email saying my account was closed and you couldn't tell me the reason why.

I use gocardless for two of my businesses seamlessly and always recommend it to friends who need a low cost yet effective solution for monthly recurring charges or to bill their clients using ach.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

Not much to dislike but I would love a way to have the invoices I make automatically be created on gocardless. There's probably a solution for this that I'm not aware of.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Collecting payments from clients in a timely manner has been greatly improved. No more chasing checks or trying to get cash from clients. We are happy knowing we have our funds in the account when we need them.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

The ease of use of the service makes it very reliable both for my myself as a business owner and for my customers. Its simplicity makes my life very easy! It removes the stress of chasing people up for payments too.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

The only issue I have with it (and it's honestly so minor it really doesn't matter) is that if I log on to gocardless on my phone and click on "payments", I cannot see the right far end of the screen, where the upcoming payments are outlined. This is true even if I unlock my screen and hold my phone horizontally. It can feel like a bit of an inconvenience because sometimes it means I don't know what payments are coming in, and I can just about make out the date. Like I said, when I log onto the website on a computer I don't have an issue with it, it's just on my phone. I have wondered whether an app might be useful too?

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GoCardless helps me ensure that my clients pay me monthly - I don't have to worry about sending invoices or chasing people up for payments. It also means I can plan my monthly finances in advance, which is helpful.

Its connected to Xero. It's one simple action to invoice a client and let Go Cardless do the rest. My clients have a different $ value invoiced to them every fortnight, Go Cardless handles this with ease. No more chasing unpaid invoices, no more reconciling individual payments, no more concerns about cash flow, no more concerns about anything.

Would be great to have the payments come through less than 3 days after they have been taken from the clients account, but I understand why.

I really like that you can setup different plans for different membership subscriptions and then invite customers to join the appropriate plan. I also really like that the dashboard is so clear and it is so easy to use and to setup.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

There's nothing I really dislike. We use some of the multi-currency capabilities for customers who are abroad which is really useful and the only thing it couldn't cope with was Japanese Yen, so I guess it would be good if that could be added.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It made it easy for us to move all our customers from PAYG via cash to direct debit payment during the pandemic. The setup was straightforward and even though may of our customers are elderly, most were able to setup their DD's without any issues. It saves us a lot of admin time now as all payments are collected automatically on the correct day of the month and we are notified of any anomalies such as failed payments.

Go cardless makes it really easy to set up a direct debit. Its API is easy to use if you want to create your own sign up pages. If not it can be done easily through their supplied interface giving your customers peace of mind with the direct debit guarantee.

There is very little to dislike about using go cardless. Ive found it very easy to use and once you get the hang of the mandate codes, customer codes its very easy to see which customer is linked to which mandate. Thats the only thing that you need to put some thought into when looking at your dashboard.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running a web hosting company means customers having to make regular payments for hosting feed, using the go cardless direct debits means I dont have to chase people up for late payments, Go cardless does try again for failed payments and every event, whether its a payment, cancelled direct debit or failure is sent to me as an email allowing me to track any potential problems without haveing to constantly check my bank account.

**What do you like best about GoCardless?**

Working on behalf of a small not-for-profit with limited expertise in website API integration, we really appreciated the extensive online documentation with lots of examples. When we did need to approach the support desk, the response was rapid and relevant.

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

About half of our user base is in the UK, with the rest spread mostly between Europe, North America and Australia. The ability to handle transactions in their local currencies and link into our UK-based account was a big attraction. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a feature GoCardless are unable to offer to not-for-profit organisations such as ourselves. Consequently, we had to implement an alternative solution alongside GoCardless, for users beyond our currency zone. Hopefully this is something that will be fixed in due course.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a small volunteer team, we really appreciate not having to chase our users for payments and renewals. We also appreciate the level of integration achievable with our own system, which saves us a lot of time and effort.

I like the QuickBooks integration. Once a customer signs up to go cardless I can manage them through QuickBooks so that if I need to amend a repeating invoice it's really simple and know the next invoices will be charged correctly via GoCardless.

I think sometimes the way information is present can be difficult to interpret but once understood its ok. I don't think it's any better or worse than other accounting software in the sense you've got to get your head around the numbers and where they are displayed.

I can clearly see who and who hasn't paid and saves me a job of sorting through all my customers to resend invoices and or chase them for late payments. The emails of failed debits means I can chase the customers instantly when there is a double failure.

The whole dashboard is easy to use and simple to view what you need. Customers, plans, payments and payouts are easy to track and follow on the dashboard. We set this up years ago and have never even needed to look elsewhere. The help forums are great too!!

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

It would be good to be able to get this to link in to move of my business apps, however, it does link with our invoicing software which is more than enough anyway.

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our business has a lot of small payments each month, £10-£20 so it would be very hard to continue issuing invoices for and to keep up with these invoices, reconcile them. Plugging in GoCardless with our invoicing software makes this a ten minute job per month now (rather than hours we used to spend). We don't need to chase up invoices, which can take time - but our invoices are sent automatically, GoCardless then takes the payment and helps reconcile them in the software. It also gives us a heads up if a customer cancels any direct debits so we can follow up *before* the payment is due.

Very simple transfer of existing clients on Direct Debit and really easy to get new clients onboard. All the setup was done in a day or so and the bank verification process was pain free.

If you aren't familiar with Direct Debit collection systems you might need some hand holding initially. The reconciliation process might not work easily with all accounting packages - but it does with Xero

**What problems is GoCardless solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All invoices generated are integrated with GoCardless so that the collections are automatically setup to collect on the right day. Payments then come straight into your bank account after 48 hours and reconcile directly in Xero with the original invoice. Simple!

Customer service is great, they can talk you through most problems easily and they get solved there and then. GoCardless for Xero is a life saver, no longer do I have to ask customers to set up standing orders, a quick link is sent to the client and they are set up in 5 minutes. Automatic collection of invoices happens in days not weeks its just THE solution for invoice collection!

**What do you dislike about GoCardless?**

There are times when things go wrong, and it can't be helped, but trying to get it sorted over email can be frustrating, I'd rather just call someone and get it resolved ASAP.

Hand down invoice collection, for both me and my clients, you just make the whole process of running a business smoother knowing I have GoCardless in my corner!

There can be a bit of a steep learning curve when doing the initial setup. It's also not the best solution if you need a fast payment as payments ca take about 10 days to arrive in your account, but this is a manageable problem.

We no longer have to chase payments. One of the most time-consuming things is reminding customers to pay - GoCardless takes the payment automatically once the invoice is generated. This is beneficial for us, but also our customers who don't have to worry about remembering to pay.

It's easy to add a customer, they receive an automated email inviting them to sign up. We get email summaries to keep us up to date with payments received each month and the dashboard is very useful to provide a heads-up.

It takes a few days for the direct debit mandate to click into place, and sometimes we miss the boat to have payment taken for a particular month. But that's not an issue with GoCardless but a limitation of the direct debit system.

There's nothing really to dislike, but if I was being really picky I'd say the turnaround time for payments to land in my account, and the fact I have to pay a fee (but then why work they work for free? I certainly wouldn't!)

I run the subscription for a football club and GoCardless allows us to automatically set the subs as individual payments or part of a subscription. We know instantly if a parent cancels their payment and we can act accordingly.

Like most payment solutions there is a cost involved... getting parents to pay via Bank Transfer incurs no processing cost, however the charges are reasonable.

It was simple to setup and best price from my comparison of the market. The features it provided such as a fixed schedule of payments or one off payments suited us perfectly.

I can't really think of anything. I guess it's always nice to have lower fees but I think at the current price point it's very competitive. We use it to back bill clients against their use on our AWS account if there was someway to automate it reading an AWS bill it'd be nice.

Making regular  payments easier and with less friction. Clients don't want to have to keep remembering to pay a monthly bill that changes with usage each month.

Gocardless has worked flawlessly for us for a number of years now. It's integrated into our accounts software, quickfile and once set up to take direct debits, it just works. The fees are also capped which makes it a lot more feasible for us being a small business.

Nothing comes to mind. We've never had any issues at all.

99% of the invoices we generate are for monthly services. We used to have to chase invoices every month which took up a lot of time. We no longer have that problem because we use gocardless and bill via direct debit.
