"Comparing functionality of fuse.earth vs. AGOL to perform GIS mapping for UCR Herbarium"
4/5
What do you like best about Fuse.Earth?

Summary:

I first became aware of MAPSOL GEO software when it was presented at a UCR Geospatial/GIS meetup on October 10, 2024 by Dr. Kiran Manachikanti, Founder and CEO.

He introduced the group to the geospatial technology known as Fuse.EarthTM.

Fuse.eanh is a robust and powerful GIS application suited for many GIS uses, providing a rich set of tools for many advanced GIS applications. It has a very slick and user-friendly interface. It has advanced GIS features normally only available on far more expensive platforms.

Advanced spatial queries and filters are a breeze to set up, and the geocoding engine is robust and accurate.

It even supports working with imagery to create seamless tiles.

The customer support is absolutely spot on.

My calls for support and help were promptly returned by Dr. Kiran Manachikanti, Founder and CEO.

I was truly impressed with his willingness to come to the UCR Herbarium to provide support for his product, but also to better understand our business.

What do you dislike about Fuse.Earth?

But in the case for geocoding Herbarium specimens, it has a bigger footprint and complexity than needed to perform a very specialized process to gather GIS data in the format needed by the Herbarium's FileMaker database. We are fortunate to have an Enterprise GIS license between UCR and Esri, which provides UCR staff with a very powerful platform to develop on.

These licenses are quite expensive, and both students and faculty are blessed to benefit from the enormous resources made available to us from this Enterprise license.

That is not the case for many businesses and local colleges, parks districts, etc.

I believe that fuse.earth may find a niche for many smaller organizations or businesses who can't afford the pricier Esri licenses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
