What do you like best about Fortra Data Classification?

• Handles large volumes of data across on-prem file shares and Microsoft 365.

• Provides robust reporting that supports audits and risk assessments.

What do you dislike about Fortra Data Classification?

•It works very well with Microsoft 365 and Fortra DLP, but connecting it to other tools or complex systems can take a lot of technical work.

• It mainly supports Windows and Mac computers; it does not support Linux, which can be a problem if your company uses different types of computers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Fortra Data Classification solving and how is that benefiting you?

Problems:

Before using Fortra Data Classification, we faced two major challenges. First, we didn’t know where sensitive data was stored – customer information, financial records, and personal details were spread across file shares, SharePoint, OneDrive, and email without any clear visibility. Second, our data protection tools weren’t accurate enough – our DLP and security systems were creating too many false alarms or missing important data because they didn’t have enough context about what was actually sensitive.

Benefiting

One of the biggest benefits we’ve seen is clear visibility into data risks – we can now see exactly where sensitive data is stored across our on-prem servers and Microsoft 365 cloud platforms, which has made risk assessments and audits much easier than before. This visibility also helps us respond to incidents faster, because our security team can prioritize alerts based on how sensitive the data is, making threat hunting and incident response much more efficient. On top of that, the reporting dashboards give us measurable security improvements by showing classification usage trends, where sensitive data is moving, and whether people are following policies, which really helps us demonstrate uthe value of our security efforts to leadership and auditors.
