I love that it's a REST API (with cURL documentation!) and that they have a way to test their API built right into the site (I use no-code tools, so this lets me build very quickly and easily) **What do you dislike about ConvertAPI?** They don't support image (PNG, JPEG, TIFF) formats for direct redaction - you need to convert to PDF first, then redact. It would be nice if I could set up custom endpoints on the Convert site that performed multiple conversions with only a single call to the service. I wrote so code that sends a PDF to the Convert API for watermarking and then sends it to ConvertAPI again for converting to jpeg. The only issue we had with their service was that the fonts embedded in our PDFs were not being used in the converted Powerpoint. I was told that normally you have to pay 300 EUR a month (a much higher plan than we otherwise need) to upload fonts, but that in my case they would add our two fonts on their "next system update" This was on May 27th. I continued to follow-up for the next two weeks asking for updates and got no responses. Finally on June 11, I was just told it would be installed on their "next system update" but that they couldn't give me any ETA. I pressed them on this because we are a software company trying to launch a feature, and needed some idea of the time frame. And so far I've gotten zero responses back from their support team. Now we are probably going to have to switch to a different service. I would have rather they just told me "no" originally, as we've now wasted time integrating with their service and will have to rip it out and start over. **Recommendations to others considering ConvertAPI:** If it works out of the box, great. They have access to the latest technology and are experts in the field of data conversion. One of the main benefits of an API service provider is that they are experts in their field because they have special training for a specific type of task. The ConvertAPI PDF export API is an example of this - they can convert almost any type of file from one format to another. We use the pre-paid plan, which allows you to use credits for using the service at any rate you need and not have to worry about fluctuations in usage. E.g., we are not charged a monthly premium when the service is not used. The resulting PDF files are accurate to the source, and the API allows an easy connection and retrieval of the file. Support is very often quick to respond in the rare case of an issue. **What do you dislike about ConvertAPI?** On rare occasions we had problems with getting a response from the service but support was quick to respond and followed up. Finding a solution that requires little to no setup, works time after time and is reasonably priced is pretty tough - and I should know, I tested more than 5 solutions before finding ConvertAPI. The one time that I had questions, support was responsive and gave me a correct answer so for the time being, I'm happy in that area as well... **What do you dislike about ConvertAPI?** Nothing so far per say. The only area of improvement that I could even nitpick around and this is being overly critical is the fact that conversion times vary somewhat at times and it would be easier to predict budget if they were truly the same each time for the same types and sized documents. **Recommendations to others considering ConvertAPI:** Definitely check out everything while using their Free plan, and don't hesitate to contact them if you have questions... It worked for me. **What problems is ConvertAPI solving and how is that benefiting you?** Well, I needed to be able to convert to PDF in a Zapier workflow in a reliable way and I tested 5 other Zapier 'PDF' solutions and none of them worked as well or were as flexible with their free plan to allow me to 'test'. As these resulting emails that contains these documents need to not be editable, conversion to PDF is obvious and a solution like ConvertAPI makes it easy peasy. It may be my favorite thing about the app! While I did not use the watermark feature at all, I know another member of the team used it frequently for media purposes such as electronic posters and powerpoint presentations. **What do you dislike about ConvertAPI?** It's not so much that I dislike it, but I do wish that I could take a PowerPoint presentation and extract text from it. Also I do think that it would be beneficial to have a more thorough and user friendly demo area where users could play around with the various tools that ConvertAPI has. **Recommendations to others considering ConvertAPI:** Take time to learn all the details of the app. Find the tasks that ConvertAPI can help you with the most and spend the time learning all the ways that it can help. It did it's job, but it wasn't perfect, because sometimes it sort of corrupted files and after conversion, no pdf reader softer could understand document's pages (it was like one huge page).
