## Classcraft Reviews
  ### 1. Overall excellent system for behavior, lesson delivery, and autonomous pacing!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mari H. | IB Homeroom and Drama , English , Science teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

Excellent for Middle School and above. Great way to keep students engaged, and on-task, give autonomy in learning paces, etc. Students love the avatars and pets. Formative assessments and quest tasks are compatible with Google Classroom among other formats. It's the best.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

The downside would be how time consuming it can be to set up initially and write out the descriptions. I haven't found a way to import assessment questions into the battles; they must be typed in individually.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students love the timer, the quests, the battles, etc. I love that I can give and take away points in real time so students are getting consistent feedback on behavior. The noise control has been a game changer!

  ### 2. Classroom Management & Gamification

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda R. | 7th Grade ELA teacher

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

It is very unique, and the absolute best tool for gamification. Very high student buy in.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

Hard to give criticism or show room for improvement for students. Steep learning curve for advanced features. High amount of class time for use.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increased student engagement hugely, and reached students I was unable to reach at all prior to use.

  ### 3. Classcraft is Awesome!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robin G. | Special Education Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

I love how Classcraft engages my students and motivates them, not only to complete assignments, but also to behave in the classroom. I teach middle school special education to students with learning and behavior challenges. Classcraft helps me to manage my classroom and to motivate my students to work to the best of their ability in the classroom. I find that students who typically have behavior issues in the general education classroom, perform and behave much better for me in order to obtain Classcraft rewards.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

I would love if more teachers in my school used Classcraft so that we could better interact through the program and provide consistency between courses.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Classcraft is helping me to solve student behavioral issues in my special education classroom. It also motivates my students to put forth their best effort in order to earn rewards through the program.

  ### 4. Complete Engagement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Donna K. | ESL/ELA Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

Classcraft creates an online environment for students that they are familiar with. The switch to online learning during the Covid 19 crisis left me with a classroom of disengaged students. When I added Classcraft to my Google Classroom assignments I reached students that had not even attempted a lesson. Students can collaborate in team discussions and worked quickly to earn points.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

The cost for a schoolwide license is too high for our Title 1 school and without that I do not have access to analytics.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

Start simple and if you use Google Classroom import the tasks to Classroom.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solved the problem of disengaged students and have students actively engaged. Additionally, to progress through a Quest they need to read, this is a big bonus since many students will not read voluntarily.

  ### 5. Classroom Management at its finest

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sheila B. | Substitute Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

It was gamifying classroom management. I have lots of gamer students that loved being able to play Classcraft and learn at the same time. There are lots of resources available within the game for teachers to use to hype up the system, such as badges, posters, etc. The free component is good but the paid subscription is better.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

I disliked having to pay for it since I'm poorly paid teacher and our school district will not let us crowdfund for things.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

As a teacher, this has been a Godsend to get those students who are anti-social and do not want to participate in lessons to be involved. Positive behaviors and engagement went up.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping my "bored" students engaged with lessons and keeping negative behaviors down has been a Godsend. Students that normally are aggressive and anti-social were able to interact positively with peers.

  ### 6. Literally turns learning into an adventure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio R. | Elementary School Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

I love that the students can customize their characters, they earn points and gold and can accessorize. This captures all the students attention, boys and girls. I also really like the random event, the boss battles...I could go on and on.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

The pro version is not cheap, they used to have have a way to get some premium features without paying, I forget what it was called, but I liked it. It is gone though. Otherwise this is a great software package.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

It's fun, colorful, and doesn't feel babyish

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps with classroom management because I can assign points and rewards. The students think it is part of the game but it has the effect of influencing behavior.

  ### 7. Helps to practice the 6 C's

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phillip H. | Computer Science teacher (CTE IT), Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

Classcraft has allowed me to help my students actually practice using the 6 C's in my class this year. It has been wonderful to watch them collaborate, creatively think through problems, communicate respectfully with each other, and build their character and leadership skills all while playing a game. Instead of trying to do "group work" with students I can use Classcraft to allow me to have students work together for a common purpose without affecting their grades.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

It seems many teachers have been asking for specific features for years, but Classcraft has been working on other features that teachers haven't asked for. There needs to be some balance between what customers want and the direction the company is going.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

Take time and just start with doing a Random Event every day. You can adjust Powers, Settings, Sentences, etc. as you go along. Let students help suggest some of these as well, and you will get a lot more buy in from them.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been concentrating on only two of the 6 C's in my class. I concentrate on Collaborating and Citizenship. Classcraft allows me to do both of those with my students. As students go through assignments some get them done and get the XP and GP while others fall behind and get HP damage. Teams can then protect their teammates from damage and help them to be successful. As Michael Fullan indicate, if you concentrate on just two of the 6 C's, the other four will aggregate.

  ### 8. Good Motivator for Some Students

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2019

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

I love the ability to give students XP , AP, and GP for things that I want them to do. Many students are super excited to "buy" items for their avatars using Gold Points. Others are more into gaining experience and action points to learn and use their powers. All in all, most students really enjoy it.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

I don't like that you can't customize all of the powers. Many of my students really need something more tangible as a reward. For many of the powers, only the name can be changed.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

In general, Classcraft is a great way to help manage a classroom.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are a few problems I am trying to solve. One is that many students do not want to do their work. Classcraft gives me a good motivator for them. I give them Action Points for doing their work. That is the only way my students gain Action Points from me.

Another problem is that students have to wear an id, which they hate. I give them 50 gold points when they enter class if they are wearing it. There is a lot less time wasted on students searching for their id's. Now they either have it on or tell me they don't have it with them, so they need a temporary which is a lot less time consuming and stressful.

A third problem is problematic behavior. Losing health points is a good detriment for many students.

There are certain things I want my students to consistently do. I work in a computer lab, so logging out is important. There are many fewer students who forget since I have been giving them gold points for this task.

Lastly, having students keep their phones away and stay on assigned websites only can be tough. Now that I have been giving experience points for these two things, there are far fewer offenders.

  ### 9. A Great way to motivate Students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy K. | Web Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

The Quest setups, Character Profiles and looks. Kids Love when they can dress up their characters and read the storylines to follow along with the classwork. It is nice that it keeps track of when I add XP and Gold and when I take away HP. This helps me keep track of what my students are doing on a daily basis and where they and I can make improvements.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

The powers can cause issues with my kids. They try to use them during class and that can become a distraction to the flow of the classroom.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

Even though it can Take time to set up, I have found it a useful tool in my classroom. Most of my students report enjoyment using it along with the learning materials. It is always fun to immerse the class into Classcraft. The more you make it part of the class, the more the students buy into it and become motivated and engaged in what you want them to be engaged in, "The Learning!"

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have found that the quests can motivate my students to complete their classwork. They want to earn XP, see the next gearset and earn rewards as "Guilds" in class. I have a class competition where the group that earns the most average XP at the end of the semester gets a treat during final exams, and this helps support Student Motivation and Engagement.

  ### 10. Classcraft: An Effective Engagement Management System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ayesha A. A. | Substitute Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Classcraft?**

The upsides of using Classcraft include establishing positive rapport with students, incorporating Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) strategies, and having engaging options for enhancing students' learning. It even facilitates your teaching to help you manage your classroom and students' behaviors.

**What do you dislike about Classcraft?**

A downside includes requiring a premium subscription for using some of their engaging tools.

**Recommendations to others considering Classcraft:**

Consider purchasing the premium feature to use more engaging tools. It is worth it to engage and motivate your students as an educator or teacher.

**What problems is Classcraft solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a former, full-time classroom teacher, Classcraft enabled me to establish positive rapport with the troublemakers in my classroom. Additionally, using this tool motivated a majority of my students and increased their academic achievement.
