**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I have been a Canopy user for several years now and they truly care about their customers.  I switched to Canopy because they were able to offer all the services I needed for my practice in one application.  They always making improvements to their software, including AI features.  They provide simple to use solutions for CRM, communication, client portal, workflow management, and billing.  I love the customization of the client portal, which can be customized for different types of clients. Not just for tax clients.  I have clients that I do accounting for, but not tax prep, and tax clients that l do not do accounting for.  Canopy makes it possible for all my clients to be under one "CANOPY".  This is one of my favorite aspects of it.  I have had a very positive experience using Canopy, as have my clients.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The cost of adding additional licenses for certain features like workflow and document management modules is high. I would like for a data entry person to be able to use the document management module without paying such a high cost for an additional license.

Canopy solves the issue of needing several services by providing them in one application.  I do not need to pay for several different solutions, such as a client portal, workflow management, and CRM, as Canopy provides them all.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really appreciate Canopy for its ease of use and user-friendliness. It significantly stands out in helping me maintain records efficiently and add new clients seamlessly. Though I've only worked with Canopy for about six months, I feel quite satisfied with its performance in keeping me organized. It’s not just about mere functionality; Canopy makes tax return tracking and processing more manageable. The system is intuitive, ensuring that maintaining client documents and payments is straightforward. This aspect drastically reduces the complexity usually associated with such tasks, making it a valuable tool in my workflow.

I would like the client list to be more customizable. I would also like to be able to sort in more ways and filter.

The client portal is a safe and secure way for clients to upload their documents. The fast notifications when documents are received is a valued time saver. 

Canopy keeps client documents organized and makes it easy to store, find, and access when specific documents are needed.

Learning their system was a bit of a challenge, but the outcome was well worth the effort to learn it.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like how Canopy provides clients easy access to their documents, which enhances the user experience significantly. The file storage capabilities are excellent, from the storage itself to the ability to share one file or multiple files efficiently. The integration with other software for saving documents works great, facilitating a seamless workflow. This makes the process of managing and accessing files much simpler compared to our previous tool, Go File Room, which was confusing and congested.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The biggest complaint is the immovable pop-up box that appears when making a file visible. This box interferes with my workflow as it prevents me from accessing all the files I intend to include.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to consolidate file storage, making files easily accessible and shareable while eliminating the need to search through paper files.

I love how it is an all in one platform. It can keep all of my files, communications, and billing info all in one place.

I'm a solo CPA so I feel like it is geared towards bigger firms at times

They recently stated they will add texting to the platform, and that will make it way easier for me to keep a level of separation between my clients and myself. It also takes away the headache of having multiple different softwares to run a firm, when all you really need is Canopy.

I like that Canopy brings everything I need into one place—client management, document requests, secure messaging, e-signatures, and workflow tracking—without feeling cluttered. **What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really appreciate Canopy's automation features, which effectively take the client "babysitting" out of our hands, allowing our team to focus on getting work done. Additionally, I've been impressed with the new features that are consistently rolled out, which enhance the overall functionality and value of the software. The initial setup of Canopy was very easy, and the implementation team made the transition as smooth as possible. I would highly recommend Canopy to small or mid-sized accounting firms.

Nothing; we moved from Onvio which was riddled with issues and downtime, and have had none of these complaints with Canopy.

Canopy automates workflow, keeps client records organized, allows for seamless and secure file sharing, and takes the client management burden off our hands so we can focus on productive work.

Canopy is awesome for document management. I love gathering all the client workpapers and condensing them into the specific order I want. Highlighting the documents and making notes for other employees is a game changer.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I wish it was capable of sending updates to cell phones thru text! It would be amazing to send signature requests and invoices to client phones. A lot of time our invoices go to junk/spam

Having all documents in one organized place. Communicating messages to clients in bulk when I have important information to share.

The task management really makes everything flow for us, we can all be up to speed on where a return is. We use it for all of our tax preparation tasks as well as some other administrative tasks.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

For whatever reason, our portal does not work for clients. We were not able to get an answer on why this is, and have shifted to another product. If the portal worked for our clients, we would use Canopy for an all in one practice management.

Task management and CRM. We have continued to build up our client list and utilize Canopy as a CRM with the notes and tagging. Having everything in one place is helpful as each member of the team has an interaction with a client.

I love that you can keep all of your client documents in one place and access them remotely  from anywhere. I also love that I can do all of my invoicing through Canopy. It helps consolidate a lot of tasks into one software.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Some of the newer features cost additional fees for each use (AI items). That part is fine, but the lowest purchase amount required is a lot more than my firm needs.

The email integration could be better. The Canopy process often eats my CPU, but that could be issues with my PC.

The addition of AI features has been a huge plus. The AI renaming tool in particular has significantly improved our document workflows and reduced time spent on repetitive tasks. I also really enjoy the Insights dashboard — it gives us access to detailed, actionable reports that help our team make better decisions. Task management is strong overall and keeps things running smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There’s still room for improvement in a few areas. It would be helpful to have more flexible reminder scheduling options within task management. Also, I’d love to see the ability to edit client-facing emails for questionnaires and requests to better align with our communication style.

Canopy helps us stay organized, automate administrative work, and extract meaningful insights from client data. With the new AI tools, we’re seeing real time savings and improved accuracy across the board.

I really like the automations and the ability to move the tasks forward without action. Also, we haven't had a chance to try it out completely yet but so far, I am really enjoying the client portal. It seems very user friendly and will make things better for both the client and us as the accountant.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There seem to be a lot of bugs and issues that take time to work out. You tout no downtime and while maybe the entire website isn't down, some features are constantly creating headaches for us.

Being able to have a place that the client can easily upload information that we are requesting of them and setting reminders that we don;'t actually have to send ourselves.

I appreciate having everything organized in one place, with a layout designed to be as user-friendly as possible.  I also like the notification system, and how easy it is to share documents with both clients and team members at once.

The app logs me out several times a day due to inactivity, which can be quite frustrating.

Client document collection is one of the most time inefficient processes in accounting: particularly for monthly bookkeeping.  This makes it simple to both collect data and collaborate.

The main drawback of Canopy is that setting up tasks for the first time can be somewhat time-consuming.

Canopy came highly recommended by another CPA friend and I've been very happy with it as my small firm slowly implements it into our practice. We are adverse to change but know it's needed and Cannot had helped us every step of the way. They are constantly coming out with improvements and new features that speak directly to a CPA's needs.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Change is always hard and I don't really fault Canopy for this challenge at our small firm. I think they speak well to the innovative thinker in the office but could have some content for the less enthusiastic user.

Keeping up with tasks by client and by preparer. We can easily check in where items are in the process.

I like its simple but smart user interface. Its low visual impact makes it easy to focus on content, providing a streamlined experience.

It can be buggy. Tasks with multiple team members included can display different statuses.

I like Canopy as CRM as it has file management, reporting, and time management all in one package. From the customer's point of view, I believe this is where Canopy shines and provides the most value for my company.

Time entry could be better if there was a calendar to see which dates time has been posted for.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy is easy to use, implement, and integrate.  I like how flexible Canopy is.  We expect to grow and Canopy easily accomodates our growth.  The task list and data storage are among my favorite features.  The task list provides the team a dash board of what is urgent and due now.  The data storage serves as an excellent client portal.

I've only had to use the customer support twice, but I received immediate help and the problem was resolved within minutes.  I appreciate the Canopy team's prompt responses.

Another tool I use frequently is the prepopulated tax forms.  I also pull transcripts directly into Canopy in minutes.

Canopy links to Quickbooks to reduce data entry.  I love it!

Canopy is a tool for daily use and helps with the revenue and operating cycles of a CPA firm.  I love Canopy.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I have part-time employees and the cost of Canopy is fixed per employee whether the employee is  part-time or full-time.  I still prefer using Canopy to manage workflows, clients, and employees.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using tasks in Canopy allows my firm an excellent centralized overview of your engagements.   I like this feature and the secure client portal best.  Canopy also provides a CRM to track business development efforts.  I also appreciate the ability to pull transcrips directly into the client storage and prepopulated tax forms.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The most helpful thing about Canopy is having industry specific workflow templates that you are able to tweak and make it your own. I think one of the upsides of Canopy for me, is that I can really feel that Canopy wants to improve and give us the features we need. I can feel they are continously asking for feedback and suggestions, and most importantly I can see the steps they make to actually improve. Customer support is always great, they have always helped me solve whatever it is that I have going on, or at least took feedback. I use Canopy literally 24/7, I really utilize custom fields for client information so I can store as many details as possible. Like their EDD number, banking institutions, dependents, account & routing numbers etc. Canopy is straightforward in all of its feautures though, ease of use wise.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Some of the least helpful things I believe are because some of the integral features are newer for them, they are not as smooth as I believe they could be. There are little things throughout the day I find myself wishing were different or wishing were there. Engagement tempalates are pretty standard I believe, and I am having an issue with mine populating whenever I create an engagement letter, which leads me to have to manually create the engagement letter one item at a time for multiple clients. On that hand, I got a response from a human as soon as I notified them about it. I wasn't able to stay online to show them, and I got a follow up from them the next day (today) to see if it's still happening. Again, I think that's the most valuable thing of Canopy, having such a huge part of your firm in one place and relying on them for so much, you want them to care and WANT to make your life easier. So I would say implementation has not been the easiest thing for Canopy, I usually have some things I really dislike or wish they would have done differently. Integration is not the best also, with third party or within itself. One huge thing for me is that the information from the organizers, doesn't populate client information. I would LOVE if we could map fields in the organizer, and now questionnares even, to fields in the client info section so it would autopopulate.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pulling transcripts is huge. Them rolling out questionnares will also be huge, I believe. I do a lot of business entity formations, and I have always wished their could be an intake form for what they want their business name to be and alternatives, a question where I can ask if they consent to text message notifications, and a my firm specific intake questionnare. They allow me to track my time and pull it straight into an invoice, which I think there are things that could improve within their billing module. I do wish the dashboard was more comprehensive, more like a Salesforce type. I think I would get much more use out of the Workflow module if I could do reporting similiar to Salesforce based off of "stages" clients are in.

I love Canopy’s fully integrated solution, which allows me to send engagement letters to clients effortlessly. I appreciate the ability to track both my time and my staff's time, along with managing projects, notes, and emails all within Canopy. It's an all-inclusive system that streamlines our processes and enhances communication via the client portal. This integration helps me work efficiently, providing a comprehensive view of our firm's workflow in a single platform, which is invaluable for maintaining daily operations smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find the email integration within Canopy a bit challenging at times. I'm certain I've not maximized this feature effectively. Additionally, simplifying the email integration would be beneficial, alongside providing the ability to filter out certain emails that I might not want to be included or shared with the team.

We use Canopy for tracking all client projects.  It allows our team to collaborate and manage workload better than anything we've used in the past.

Email integration allows our us to see what is going on across all clients, very cool. It is awesome to see tasks across the organization all in one spot and the portal is great. I also like the feature of being able to send a secure link to an upload area for prospects and non-clients. We plan on utilizing the time and billing but are going to focus on the client list and tasks for the first few months post-implementation.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Lack of Google Workspace integration was a bummer for us but the other benefits of implementing Canopy will outweigh this in the long run.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We embarked on a PM hunt and found Canopy to be the best at what we needed. Prior to, we had no idea where communication was with our clients unless we were cc'd. Now we can associate tasks with clients and see the email correspondence. Also, our time tracking was inadequate so we plan on utilizing that feature. Our DMS was rather scattered and not standardized and we lacked a client portal. Now we have most of those items solved.

The virtual drive is not always synced up/there are version discrepancies.  the task template automation does not have as many features as I would like (for example if functionality based on other sub tasks in the workflow)
