**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love all the features is Canopy. It has allowed my practice to work efficiently and effectively. I can see who's working n what task, what tasks are completed, pending, and other statuses all in one place. The Canopy help center is amazing with its videos and tutorials.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I can't say there's a downside, but I would like Canopy to add a vault for passwords and URLs to access client-specific information such as online banking and other apps used by the clients instead of using notes.

Everything is in one place and the business runs smoothly.

I wish there was more customization. It would be great to customize the tax organizers.

Managing the workflow and deadlines for our employees and clients. Combining multiple google docs and systems into one place. This has helped increase efficiency and productivity in our organization.

it's so simple and also beneficial for day-to-day work. I can stay organized,, and work from home quickly and effortlessly.

I dont use the email portion of the application, i dont find it useful.

daily task reminder and being able to feel organized and rewarded after each work week. so much more productive.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

We love the cloud document management module. As a small firm, this allows us to work out of multiple locations and have access to all our documents everywhere. Our clients have also found the client portal much easier to use than our previous system. We use all the modules of canopy and it has replaced 4 different softwares that we previously used.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Price is the biggest downside as it's a little bit expensive. There are a few minor features we would like to see, but the canopy team is consistently rolling out new features that are very helpful to us.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had four different softwares handling all the needs that canopy is now covering for us. Our practice has become much more efficient having everything in one place.

If the Client Portal is going to be closed, it should ask for a reason to keep a reference, and if the portal needs to be opened again, it must ask why? to keep record for the reason and who  made the changes

Task tracking, and automatic invoicing and payment processing

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Fees.... I don't like that different modules have additional fees.

Client management.... tracking of tasks for bothour office and clients. The automatic reminders to clients are very helfpful. Auto billing and payment processing saves multiple hours a month, plus increases cash flow.

time saving software, I don't have to scan client documents anymore, everything in one place forever and billing all in one place as well.

they don't offer tax prep software, other than that love it.

Form population - self help walk throughs for Innocent spopuse penalty abatement etc... 

I really feel like your CS is second to none

I have tried several different softwares and seen countless demos your CS is far beyond the software I tried and your feature exceed the ones I demo'd

Still waitin on a chronological integrated calendar and a methodogy for inputting actions, T/C and emails on one record per client  - without these feature I have to use a CRM in addition to Canopy

I like that Canopy is incredibly user-friendly; it makes the job day to day so much easier than other platforms. The time the Canopy team has taken to ensure a great platform truly shows.

If there is a glitch in the software, it seems to be a bit of a process to get any of these things taken care of. They sometimes go unnoticed but are vital when they are found.

Easy to use, syncs to desktop, clients love it, helps portray my small business in a professional manner, love the client organizers for tax prep

I wish that the desktop software would sync Excel files in a manner that does not create a copy of the file.

Simplifies the document submission process for clients and organizes their files in one place. It helps me not have to dig through emails looking for their files and keeps me from having to upload files into their file folder.

I love that it makes my onboarding process seamless, and our firm has one place where our clients go.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Support and workflow. I wished I could replace Asana with Canopy workflow. I also wished I can send out mass engagement letters and proposals.

It is my CRM (but need more) and document management software. The best part is the organizer, I don;t have to go back and forth with clients to get information.

I love the security it provides, ease of use for me and my clients, and great way to keep tract of billing as well. When covid hit, it was the saving grace!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

That there isn't a tax software product to prepare the tax returns.

billing and less need for phone calls with clients. The organizer is great and takes away a lot of emails when the client follows the prompts.

I really like the document mark up feature in Canopy.  It allows me to enter my comments or calculations and my team can see them but the client can not.  Saves me from having to print out the document, write out my comments and then re-upload them in order to share.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Report printing is a little clunky.  I find it difficult to obtain the infomation I need without first downloading the report into Excel.

We can use tasks to move processes along.
There are the markup tools which allow us to share thoughts right on the item in real time.
More than one of us can be in a client at a time reviewing documents.

The simplicity of finding our clients, uploading their docs, sending them invites, and viewing/organizing what they send in

I don't like that I can't find an invite link to send to the client myself so their invite comes directly from me and can be tracked in my inbox.

It allows us to have a simple interface that we share with clients for getting everything that they need into one simple page with folders.

I like how the tasks keep you on task.  I also like how a client request helps you keep track of the items still needed and the actual job status.

Not all the tasks and client requests have a time stamp on when it was created.  I want to see when a client request or task has been created.

Internal communication, communication with the client, the portal, and task-oriented is helping to make our business more productive overall.

The client request feature and auto reminders is nice so you don;t have to reach out to clients multiple times.

I always feel like I am paying for unused licenses. It is very difficult to understand how many users are needed for each feature.

Clients communication is streamlined and the documents storage system both make a better client experience.

How secure it is for both our office and to our clients. I like the time tracking as well.

Nothing at this point. It all appears to work just as it is represented.

The ability to keep multiple years of records, by month and by year.  Then to access their Tax Records and Tax Returns as well.

The ease of use.  It seems like most customers have no problem uploading to their portal.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There seems to be confusion internally with my account.  The main dissatisfaction Canopy does not integrate with my tax software.

Canopy solves the issue for my clients to be able to upload their files from anywhere and they do not have to come to my office which makes us more virtual office.

Our client information is all in one place. Notes, WIP, contact information and emails in one location makes the staff and office very efficient.

I am still learning, so I am not yet ready to answer this question.

All staff can see the correspondence with clients, so they are not asking one another what the status is for file.

Every time I call Canopy, someone answers me quickly, is knowledge, and is pleasant to talk to!

Canopy is a newer platform, so there are some glitches that need to be smoothed over.

Canopy is continually making their platform more user friendly, as well as adding useful features. They seem to respond well to feedback.

Customizable templates, seamless integration with my file explorer, & customer engagement with the portal.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

No integrated coworker chatting app. Like how google chat is connected to your email screen. I wish Canoy had a similar feature.

We used multiple programs that had their own log in information to do what Canopy offers as a complete service/product.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The most helpful aspect of Canopy is the ease in which clients are able to use the client portal and use the associated app. Even the clients that are technology challenged find the app easy to use. If they are happy using the portal, that makes my life much easier.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I really don't much like the task side of Canopy. For my use, it's far too cumbersome. I'm not able to view the tasks by client at a glance (although I hear with the next update that's changing), and not in a way that's helpful for my needs. It's clunky.

The billing needs some improvement in two aspects: 1) it takes five days to receive payment after a client payment has been processed. That's an inordinately long period of time, 2) it does not allow for client access to documents to be held up until such time as payment is made. Since the procedure DOES take so long for a firm to receive payment after processing, this second point is pretty well moot, since an alternative method of payment processing is more advantageous, it would make them more competitive if they were able to pay faster AND lock document access until payment was received.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps me with the exchange of documents with clients in an easy manner. My clients are all over the country, so that's critical. 

I'm hoping the next update will help me solve my workflow issues a little better with the task feature. I know that it can help me track what's in and not in better than I'm doing manually.!

While I use the transcripts, I know I don't use the engagement and resolution to their fullest potential, and I'd like to change that.

The document signing that complies with IRS requirements is also important and a must-have.

Canopy is a valuable tool, especially now when documents transfers needs extra security. Most document discovery and collection is done virtually now in COVID world, so I'm elated to have Canopy as a portal to allow my clients to easily upload their documents. Most clients have welcomed the shift to using Canopy as it is user friendly.

The only downside is that Canopy is a document portal and a tax preparation practice management tool but not a tax preparing option integrated into one.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly it's helping with document management.  Also Canopy client set up allows me to make sure all the required information for my clients is one place in one secure place for both me and my clients to access whenever needed as long as I have a browser available, meaning I can access this information even when away from the office. During COVID lockdowns and when heightened security is required for document transfer getting clients documents and providing them with their tax returns in a secure portal, has been a key element to my practice for my clients.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy's features are amazing, but the best thing about them is their response to consumer feedback, willingness to adapt their software, and support staff. The consumer feedback portal is great to suggest features, and you are notified of any comments and activity on the ideas you support. The few times we have had issues, we can message the IT support staff and get responses quickly without having to wait on hold. If you move to a different window to continue working while you wait, an email will be sent to notify you of a response. 
The system is straightforward and an amazing all-in-one software. Time, productivity, realization, and revenue is all tracked on their system. We can view our emails, our workflows, customize our views, view client information, send/sign documents, manage client documents, and instant message our clients. Before this we had 6 different spreadsheets for workflow alone, our timecards were kept on spreadsheets, and our billing process would take at least 30 hours a month to compile everything, create the invoices, and get them reviewed. Our clients constantly complained about receiving invoices a month or two after the work was done, so collection efforts were a pain. Now, even with billing based on employee time, we can send an invoice with every deliverable, set recurring payments for our clients on retainer and fixed prices, and our clients that are on payment plans can see their total balance without having to email us! This is even better than single-sign-on services because everything is in one place and transparent across all departments.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One thing that is quite annoying is the amount of time it takes for payments received through Canopy to hit your bank account, but they are researching how to make those deposits come faster, and the price they charge in fees will save us thousands of dollars a year for ACH payments, so again, I think the trade-off is worth it. If your firm doesn't have the cash stores to be able to wait 7-10 days for your money to hit your account, I would recommend using another processor until your cash flow is steady enough for those savings. Most of the things I wasn't fond of have been changed thanks to their responsive adaptation, and the rest have been acknowledged by the development team to be researched for implementation.
Also, Canopy's price is a little high, especially where you pay per user on each license, (up to 5 licenses are needed per user) but so far it has been worth it. I fear suggesting that they lower their price because if the higher price is what we have to pay for the responsive development team and support staff, it is a trade-off I am okay with. Plus, having each of their "product lines" on a separate license saves you money overall. If you have staff that does not work on IRS resolution or don't need access to the WIP report, you don't have to purchase a license for them. If things were billed in one group, you would be paying for additional services you don't need. We currently only have Admins that have access to the WIP/Productivity reports because they are the ones that create the invoices and review staff efficiencies. These things aren't enough of an issue for me to justify giving them a rating of less than 10 because they have been worthwhile trade-offs for our firm but are things prospective consumers should be aware of.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The first major problem Canopy solved that it "created" was its billing features. When we started using them at the beginning of May 2022, the only way we could bill was by service item or by having our employees have only one billing rate. The way we bill is by employee and service they are providing since we provide everything from tax credits, standard bookkeeping, tax prep, and tax strategy/implementation which all command different prices. When we suggested having a way to have different billing rates per service item, we were told it would release around September 2022. This feature was released two months earlier than we expected at the end of July 2022.
As for our problems Canopy is solved, all of our client information is now in one place, our workflows are more efficient and we can see where everyone is in the process of things which reduces the time it takes to find answers for clients, our communication with our clients has improved 10-fold thanks to the client request and bulk email features, and we no longer have to pay for a separate document e-sign service that had terrible customer service, was overpriced, and resulted in many of the documents we sent being sent to our client's spam folders. Being a newer office manager, I had felt I had imposter syndrome for the first little while, by reading Canopy's blog posts and other material they provide, I have grown as a manager and feel comfortable in my role. My coworkers have made comments in their partner review about how I have improved the firm, and it is mostly due to Canopy. No matter what stage of "life" your firm is in, Canopy is something you should seriously consider.

Many of my clients appreciate the extra security when dealing with their sensitive information.

I dislike the additional cost for add-one. I prefer the payment method they previously had. I am not sure what the changes are for next year but we are still a fairly small company so paying thousands for the software is unaccepatable.

Canopy is always innovating and building upon their current framework. The upcoming features in beta testing and those previewed during their First Look Webinars are very exciting from an Operations perspective (especially that automation!). Canopy's support team is the fastest I've had - for any application - on communication and resolving any issues we may run into. The fact that Canopy is always listening to customer input and building on that means you're not just buying a program that will age out, but will grow with your firm. The fact that it's very easy to train new employees on is a big plus.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There is a bit of lack of complex reporting, but nothing a CSV export and a bit of Excel wizardry won't fix. I may run into a problem here and there with something acting up, or a report I am unable to generate, but Canopy is always quick to act and solve whatever problem possible.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is majorly useful when it comes to monitoring Project Workflow. They have preset status conditions and you are able to add your own (our firm has taken major advantage of this). They offer many different notification options so you know when a task is ready to go, their Task dashboard is easy to understand at a glance.

Customer service is top-notch; it's as simple as starting a chat with customer service whenever I have an issue. I think this is important. Secondly, it is very user friendly. Easy to train staff. Lastly, very simple for clients to use as well.

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

All my client's contact info, files, tasks, timers, and notes are in one place instead of four different applications like I used to have to use! I love being able to view it all at once, and easily switch between clients. There are many ways to customize your experience in Canopy by adding custom fields and creating templates for just about anything. But my favorite thing about Canopy is how transparent they are with their customers about updates to their product. They release new features at least quarterly and have a lively Suggest a Feature forum where developers engage with clients on how to improve further.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Canopy comes at a hefty price tag for a small business, though comparable to similar software on the market. There are certainly design elements that would help make my workday more efficient (please let me type in due dates instead of having to click on a calendar!). At one point, the Canopy team was planning on incorporating further integration with tax preparation software, so there are some functionalities that don't tie in as well with the rest. Notably, the Tax Prep Organizers are not customizable, are far too detailed to send to returning clients, and the information doesn't flow from them to fill any of the client contact info. This is a function that my office never uses, but would love to use if it worked for us.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest change Canopy made for our business was eliminating having so many different programs open at once. I also like that it's online, so we can log in from anywhere, though I do fear having all my client's files only exist on their drive, not locally, and having something happen to the company, leaving me with no way to recover my clients' information. I believe that this problem was solved with the recent introduction of the Digital Drive, though I don't think I fully understand how that works.
