What do you like best about AWS Systems Manager?

What I like best about AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store is its ability to securely centralize application configuration and sensitive parameters without hardcoding them into application code or deployment pipelines. It supports encryption through AWS KMS, versioning, parameter hierarchies, and fine-grained IAM access controls, making configuration management both secure and scalable.

What do you dislike about AWS Systems Manager?

While AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store works well for most configuration management needs, its advanced secret rotation capabilities are more limited than those of AWS Secrets Manager. Also, when you’re managing a large number of parameters across multiple environments, it really helps to have a clear, well-defined naming convention in place to keep everything organized and easy to maintain. What problems is AWS Systems Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

AWA Systems Manager Parameter Store helps us address secure configuration management and secret distribution challenges.

For example, we use Parameter Store to store database connection strings, API endpoints, application configuration values, and encrypted credentials. Our Lambda functions, ECS services, and EC2 applications then retrieve these values at runtime, rather than keeping sensitive information in configuration files or source code.
