What do you like best about AWS Greengrass?

The biggest advantage of AWS IoT Greengrass is that it brings AWS capabilities directly to edge devices. Rather than sending every request to the cloud, Greengrass lets applications, Lambda functions, and containers run locally. This reduces latency and helps devices keep operating even when internet connectivity isn’t available.

What do you dislike about AWS Greengrass?

Deploying and managing edge software across many devices takes careful planning, especially around hardware compatibility, software updates, and version management. Troubleshooting local deployments can also be more complicated than with cloud-only applications, since problems may stem from the device hardware, the operating system, or the network. What problems is AWS Greengrass solving and how is that benefiting you?

AWS IoT Greengrass addresses the challenge of processing IoT data close to where it’s generated, rather than relying entirely on constant cloud connectivity.

Example:

In a manufacturing environment, industrial cameras and sensors continuously generated operational data. AWS IoT Greengrass ran local Lambda functions to detect equipment anomalies and trigger alerts within milliseconds. The processed results were then synchronized with AWS IoT Core only when network connectivity was available, which reduced bandwidth consumption and helped ensure production systems kept operating even during temporary internet outages.
