As a general practice architect, we rarely have a one-size-fits-all approach to our projects. Archicad allows us to tailor our solutions with maximum flexibility. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** Archicad (still) NEEDS a built-in keynotes system. Aftermarket solutions are expensive to maintain, especially for functions that should be built-in to the system at this point. I appreciate that Graphisoft is making a concerted effort to increase its footprint in the US market. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** There is almost always a solution to solving a design problem in archicad! One of it's most valuable assets is that is allows for tailoring our approach as a project demands whether it be a 2D simple drawing, or full-fledged collaborative model! ### 2. Also, window and door manufacturers do not offer dedicated library parts to use, so some are approximations. **Recommendations to others considering Archicad:** Try before you buy, ask other professionals who are in the same field of architecture as you. Look at examples of average users. Dont get discouraged, it is a big leap if you are moving from 2D drafting only, to a 3D modeling program. Most clients cannot read the traditional 2D architectural drawing. The 3D model/3D views are priceless! Also love to track the windows and doors in a schedule. It has come a long way and has many plugins, and allows integration with other software. The libraries are extensive, as well as the surfaces/materials. Modifying these items is also reasonably easy. Customizing the UI and other things in the software is simple and allows tailoring to your firm's desired workflow. The user interface is very pleasing and helps customization that I previously spoke about with any new themes and/or architectural objects. The minimalistic approach in the toolkit helps with quick editing. The built-in renderer creates realistic images. It can also be integrated with other software for rendering/final images. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** The menus are extensive, so this software takes time to implement. However, for quick, uninvolved projects, it's fairly simple to get started. To get full benefits requires time. Subscription or pricing is on the higher side. The software requires a powerful system with a high level of RAM, otherwise it crashes often. It has a somewhat minimalistic approach, which some users may not like and may not be flexible enough for them. **Recommendations to others considering Archicad:** Look into webinars demonstrating the software and look into trials. The software isn't inexpensive and may do more than needed for your particular industry. Resellers of the software are very helpful and should be able to answer any questions you may have. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** This software allows us to quickly create comprehensive documents to be used by other construction professionals in collaboration. We often do live tours with our clients, and it makes the design process so easy! we don't normally save out plans, 3D views, and renderings for client meetings, or have to waste time creating a presentation - we can just do it all live in the model. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** one thing that I dislike is the availability of objects and library parts for archicad. it is not easy to create parametric families like it is in revit. this is something that they are getting better with archicad, and it's now easier to import sketchup and revit objects into archicad. the native objects in archicad that are available aren't great though - we typically have to download custom parts to make our models look good for client walkthroughs. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** teamwork! we can all work in the project together, and it's very quick to "send and receive" changes for all team members to be on the same page. definitely easier than model sharing in revit. ### 21. Navigator is far superior, in my opinion, to other applications I've used. Publishing is excellent. Worksheets are excellent. Trace referencing is excellent. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** My modeling efforts are not acceptable compared to drafting in 2d output. Site modeling is complex. Sending DWGs to outside engineers has been a challenge for over 20 years--my engineers hate my DWG files. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use ArchiCAD for building design and construction documentation. These together make an extremely persuasive presentation of a Conceptual and Finished Project before actually having it built. And, you can use the Twinmotion add-on for free to further enhance the ArchiCAD model. We have a number of these ArchiCAD examples posted on our website. And, in our proposals we include ArchiCAD modeling as a standard benefit vs. our competition. It's not an option, but our fees have been upped by around 25% for 3D images, the BIMx, etc. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** Photo rendering is too laborious. We don't use CineRendering. Rendering in OpenGL is way faster and good enough if one sets up the right textures from the start. Terrain modeling objects and/or components are limited (but Twimotion fills in this gap if one is willing to learn it). A new version every year is overkill. **Recommendations to others considering Archicad:** I started learning AC in 2012 using ARCHVISTA's STEP BY STEP Training Guide book, written for AC 11. Too bad it is no longer available or updated. So Eric Bobrow's courses and training have filled that gap. Using the Graphisoft or YouTube videos are useful, but somewhat stumbling along. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** Attempting to attract up-front money and buyers for a speculative project. The items that slow us down, is getting everyone in the office on the same hotfix. There are a number of ways within Archicad to do this, and depending on the project and client, we have options. The various options are also helpful with marketing. Our staff only needs to learn one program to from presentation to construction documents and because the program offers so many smart tools, it allows us to provide documents faster than any other program. ### 33. While the tools availible to you appear at first glance to have very clea purposes, with a little imagination you can see how they can be used to accomplish a variety of task related to completing building geometry. It is a great tool not only for design, but information gathering and documentation. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** The thing i dislike most is the lack of a search function for the project navigator. This is both a pro and a con. Because you are unable to search and organize information through a search, users have to become aware of how they are structuring thier file for later use. This inablity to search however can become problematic because as a project developes navigating the file through the project navigator can sometimes be time consuming. **Recommendations to others considering Archicad:** I would advise most new users to understand that the program will provide 95% of what you need out of the box. The last 5% is going to be user dependent on your needs and what infirmation you need to get out of the software based on your needs and desires. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** Typical design and construction detailing. If i can model it then the contractor can build it. The ablity to use a 3d document to provide clear communication of the deisng intent is a time saver. With advance planning, much of the documentation stage can be completed more quickly. **What do you dislike about Archicad?** Complexity of tools and configuration can be a hindrance to getting started. Achieving a realistic model with clean concise 2D represenation can be challenging at times. BIMx software could be improved for better client experience, sharing a hypermodel has become difficult as it is android only. BIMx could also be a documentation manager such as PlanGrid with a little more features. **What problems is Archicad solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to think through the construction of the building with the modeling of the project. Renovation filters are a big help to organize content and easily rework design options. ArchiCAD helps minimize repetitive 2D drafting work on projects, and allows for more efficient documentation production. ### 35.
