What do you like best about Apache Ranger?

Easy to integrate with any authorization interface and centralized audit board. It's easy to implement and write our own access control within a week from start to production. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache Ranger?

Installation on secured environment is difficult. Apache Ranger documents are outdated and it's only possible for people who are mostly involved in development to easily set it up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apache Ranger solving and how is that benefiting you?

Centralized access to manage all of Hadoop ecosystem access control, Hive, Presto, and HDFS plugins are easily managed through Ranger today. Our story with Hive: We have used Hive extensively in our ecosystem and we used to manage the user access from SQL-based Hive access control. Over time, as more and more users were onboarded to the system, it became impossible to manage the access control and very difficult to manage it. That's when Apache Ranger came to the rescue and we could manage 600+ policies. Our story with Presto: In a federated environment, we wanted to access control multiple connectors under one roof. That's where the Presto-Ranger plugin saves you. In a Presto world, there is no other access control as powerful as Apache Ranger. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
