What do you like best about Amazon Q Developer?

What I like most about Amazon Q Developer is its ability to provide context-aware coding assistance while understanding AWS services, SDKs, APIs, and cloud architecture. It can generate code, explain existing codebases, help troubleshoot errors, create Infrastructure as Code templates, and recommend AWS best practices directly within the IDE.

Its seamless integration with AWS resources makes it especially valuable for cloud-native application development, since I can stay in my workflow while getting guidance that fits the AWS environment I’m working in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Q Developer?

It performs exceptionally well for AWS-related development, but the generated code sometimes needs additional refinement when the business logic is complex. With larger codebases, the responses can occasionally miss parts of the broader project context, so a developer review is still important before deploying anything to production. What problems is Amazon Q Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?

Amazon Q Developer reduces the time I spend writing repetitive code, getting up to speed on unfamiliar codebases, and troubleshooting AWS integrations.

For example, while developing serverless applications with Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB, Amazon Q Developer generated Lambda handlers, IAM policies, CloudFormation templates, and AWS SDK integration code. It also helped me understand deployment errors and suggested improvements aligned with AWS best practices.
