Xi‑Batch is a general purpose job scheduling and workload automation system for standalone and networked Unix and Linux systems, first released in 1990.
It handles timed and repetitive scheduling, ad hoc submission, load management, job chaining and monitoring in one environment, using time and date, file monitoring, simple or complex dependencies and condition testing. Transparent peer‑to‑peer networking lets scheduled jobs and control variables be shared across any number of hosts, with central or distributed control, and includes comprehensive security, chargeback and user access control.
Jobs are usually shell scripts, and other command processors such as Perl and SQL integrate directly.
Virtually every aspect of the system, from screen layout to error message text, is configurable per user or system‑wide.
