Unikum is an all-in-one childcare management platform built for daycare centers (Kitas), their leadership teams, and multi-site providers across Germany. It brings together pedagogical documentation, parent communication, and quality management in a single, GDPR-compliant system — replacing the patchwork of paper processes, spreadsheets, and disconnected apps many childcare providers still rely on.
At the core of Unikum is child-centered documentation: educators can record observations, learning logs, and development reports directly on a tablet in under 90 seconds, linked to the official education frameworks of each German federal state (Bildungspläne). The integrated parent app enables secure, bidirectional messaging with real-time translation, so families who speak different languages can stay fully informed without manual effort from staff.
For daycare leadership and multi-site providers, Unikum adds centralized attendance tracking (check-in/check-out), role-based access management, and aggregated quality data across all locations — giving providers an audit-ready overview without adding administrative burden to individual teams. An AI assistant (Unikum Flow) helps staff interpret quality data without replacing pedagogical judgment, which stays fully with the educational team.
Unikum is built to meet not only general GDPR requirements but also Germany's sector-specific church data protection laws (KDG and DSG-EKD), making it suitable for both public and faith-based providers. The platform integrates with established German childcare administration and staff-scheduling tools (e.g., kitamaster, Quickshift) via open REST APIs, so providers can adopt Unikum without discarding existing systems.
Originally developed in Sweden, where Unikum has been used by childcare and school providers since 2005, the platform entered the German market to bring that experience to local providers, with full localization for German data protection and educational standards.
