LedgerBarn is bookkeeping and payroll for small businesses, built by a Virginia business owner who was tired of paying three programs to do one job. Shops, trades, services and farms run on it.
It uses the words QuickBooks Desktop users already know: Write Check, Enter Bills, Receive Payment, Reconcile. Bank statements reconcile from a CSV, OFX or QFX file from your bank. Invoices go out by email, text or a public link. Bills, customer prepayments, sales tax, a journal entry screen and a full chart of accounts are in. Reports include Profit & Loss in QuickBooks' bands, balance sheet and general ledger, and QuickBooks Desktop data imports in a few steps.
Payroll runs hourly, salaried and commission pay with pre-tax and post-tax deductions and garnishments, and every paycheck is verified to the cent against an independent calculator for Virginia and North Carolina. Paystubs and W-2s print, the 941 is filled onto the IRS form, and the W-2 and 1099 files for the SSA and IRS are produced for you to file. Payroll posts into the books automatically.
The farm edition adds livestock and stocker lots with cost of gain, fields and soil tests, equipment service records, a Schedule F report, Form 943 figures, local weather and NWS alerts, and farm economics.
Upload your equipment manuals, labels and spec sheets, and the built-in assistant answers questions from them and from your books: what you spent on fuel in August, or which filter a machine takes.
It runs in any browser and installs on a phone. Your data is encrypted at rest and exportable at any time. Pricing is one flat monthly fee per business, with no per-employee or per-head charges, and a 14-day free trial with no card needed.
