Keycard makes managing SSH keys and developer identity across cloud infrastructure virtually effortless. It replaces static, manually managed authorized_keys files with dynamic, identity-based access controls tied directly to our single sign-on (SSO). Authenticating into staging servers, Kubernetes nodes, or dev boxes requires zero manual public key syncing or ticket requests. The CLI tool is remarkably fast, allowing engineers to request access and connect securely within seconds, while automated key rotation ensures identity enforcement remains strong without interrupting daily deployment workflows.

Passing shared service-account keys through Kubernetes environment variables became a major security headache once our insurance claims agents started calling internal MCP servers and external pricing APIs. I integrated Keycard using their keycardai-mcp and keycardai-temporal Python packages so our background workers never hold standing secrets. The best part is how the @grant decorator and Temporal worker interceptor handle RFC 8693 OAuth token exchange automatically at runtime. When an adjuster submits a multi-sheet property claim through our portal, Keycard exchanges their session context for a short-lived token scoped strictly to the exact resource that single activity needs, whether it is reading an uploaded receipt file or updating a row's pre-tax replacement price. Once the function finishes running, the credential expires immediately, and I did not have to write custom OAuth middleware from scratch.
