HourSquad is a time tracking and project budget management platform for professional services firms — consulting, audit, accounting, and advisory teams of roughly 5 to 200 people.
It connects three things that are usually tracked in separate tools or spreadsheets: the hours each team member logs, the cost of those hours, and the budget remaining on each project. Managers see budget consumption as it happens, project by project, instead of discovering overruns at month-end close.
Core capabilities:
- Time tracking: manual entries or a persistent timer that follows the user across the app. Entries are tied to a client, a project, and a task.
- Squad management: organize people into squads, assign them to projects, and see each person's allocation across engagements on a timeline. Overallocation is flagged.
- Budget execution: every project carries a planned budget in hours and cost. Dashboards show planned versus executed, remaining balance, and projects approaching their limit.
- Financial layer: hourly cost per team member, project profitability, and realization at the project level.
- Client and project hub: clients, projects, and squads in one structure, with role-based access (owner, admin, manager, member, viewer).
- Reports and analytics: hours by person, project, client, and period, exportable for billing and internal review.
HourSquad was built by a practitioner with three decades leading professional services and internal audit teams, including at a Big Four firm. The design reflects the recurring problem of learning that a project was over budget only after the work was done.
