WordPress plugin for EU AI Act image disclosure, WebP/AVIF optimization and accessible alt text — processed locally, no cloud, GDPR-compliant.
How it works
After activation, processing runs automatically in the background. Every uploaded image is handled on upload, with no manual steps.
- Image optimization: automatic conversion to WebP (Free) and AVIF (Pro), significantly smaller files at the same visual quality.
- AI labeling: automatic detection of AI-generated or AI-edited images via C2PA metadata and EXIF signatures, plus manual re-categorization for edge cases without readable metadata. The disclosure is written back into the original and into every image size WordPress generates — so the variant served in the frontend carries it too.
- Alt text generation (Pro): AI-assisted, accessible image descriptions using your own API key instead of a credit system.
All processing runs locally on your own server. No images are sent to external cloud services, and no account is required. For alt text you supply your own API key; Mistral AI (France, fully GDPR-compliant) is recommended, but any compatible provider works.
Why IMG Performer matters
Since 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires AI-generated images to carry a machine-readable disclosure. Accessible alt text has been mandatory under the German BFSG since June 2025, and unoptimized images still slow down page load and search ranking. IMG Performer covers all three requirements in one WordPress plugin — without images ever leaving your own hosting.
