BuildInterview is a technical interview platform for hiring AI and data talent, starting with Forward-Deployed AI Engineers. Instead of puzzles or week-long take-homes, each candidate takes an Audition: a timed work sample built around a realistic client problem.
How an Audition works:
1. Plan without AI. The candidate reads the client's brief and writes a plan. The plan locks, so you see their own judgment first.
2. Build with an AI assistant. They build a working app in a cloud workspace, in Python, SQL, JavaScript or TypeScript. The assistant works like a pair programmer and never writes the whole solution.
3. Catch the model's mistakes. The app calls an AI model to answer customer requests. In the test, a scripted copy of that model gets some answers wrong on purpose, and the candidate's code has to catch them.
4. Handle the change. Midway, the client can change a rule, just as a real client would.
5. Write it up. A short note for the client and one for the engineer who takes over.
After they submit, their code runs again on brand-new data, so answers that only fit the example fail. Automatic checks decide what is correct, and an AI reviewer rates what code cannot measure, such as the plan and the notes. Your team gets one report with every finding linked to the plan, code, output or note behind it, plus a replay of the screen, camera and microphone. There is no hire or reject recommendation: your team decides.
Auditions cover junior to staff level, and you can add SQL and multiple-choice questions. You choose which AI model candidates get and the token budget for the task.
Bring your own business problems. Send us a real problem from your business, with your own data if you like, and we will turn it into a custom Audition for your role.
