Alto CERO is an AI-powered building energy management system (BEMS) that continuously optimises HVAC plant operation in real time. It connects to a building's existing chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling units, VAV boxes and fan coil units over open protocols – BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT and LoRa – reads equipment telemetry continuously, and writes optimised setpoints and staging commands back to the plant automatically. It does not require replacing the existing BMS or the mechanical equipment. The system runs on an on-premise Alto CERO edge gateway built on a VOLTTRON 9.2 agent framework. Control loops execute locally at the edge, so optimisation continues uninterrupted if the internet link drops. Every device: chiller, AHU, meter, sensor – is represented as a standardised software agent with typed datapoints tagged to the Brick Schema building ontology.
