1DNest is a Windows program by 1D Solutions that works out how to cut bars, tubes, profiles, extrusions and rolls to length with the least waste. It was previously sold as 1D Cutting Optimizer.
The user loads the pieces to cut from a CSV file and enters the stock available. 1DNest takes the saw kerf off at every cut and can trim both ends of each bar. A job can use several stock lengths, each with its own quantity and cost per unit of length, and the program looks for the plan with the lowest cost. An optional priority column makes it use offcuts first, and another limits the number of different lengths per pattern, for saws with a single stop. In Full mode one job can mix several materials, each optimised on its own in the same run. Each piece can carry an angle at each end for mitre cuts.
Results come as graphic cutting layouts and as text reports, including the reusable offcuts above a minimum length. Reports can also be produced in Excel or saved as PDF, labels are made through Microsoft Word, and a generic CSV file can be saved for the cutting machine. Excel reports and labels need Microsoft Excel and Word installed.
A job can hold up to 3,000 cut lines and 500 stock lines. Lengths can be entered in millimetres, centimetres, metres, decimal inches, fractional inches or feet and inches. The interface is available in 12 languages, with English, Spanish and Portuguese fully translated; the built-in help is in English. It runs on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 and Windows Server.
