Global Employment Platforms (GEP) Definition

Global employment platforms (GEP) are SaaS applications that allow companies to hire internationally without doing the legal work of establishing themselves in another country. They often do this by operating as a legal entity such as an employer of record (EOR), professional employer organization (PEO), or agent of record (AOR). This allows the software to act as the defacto employer while the company has the flexibility to select and hire workers internationally.

While GEP shares traits with similar services categories such as PEO providers or employer of record (EOR) services, they’re set apart by their software-centric model and greater reliance on modern tech. While they may offer HR advising, consulting, or other assistance, these platforms generally operate as software first and foremost, giving users flexibility and control from the main dashboard.

To qualify for inclusion in the Global Employment Platforms category, a product must:

  • Allow users to source, filter, and hire employees internationally
  • Use a robust, modern platform that enables international hiring without the need for intervention from a services team
  • Include accessibility to other services via the software, such as benefits, global payroll, and immigration
