Identity verification confirms someone is who they claim to be, usually during onboarding, using ID documents with data matched to authoritative databases and biometric matching to a live selfie. Authentication validates established credentials (passwords, biometrics, MFA) at every access point thereafter throughout the business relationship. Binding these two processes together with a strong authentication credential created during the verification process creates the most secure customer and employee workflow.
