# What are Transactional best practices?

Transactional emails like order confirmations, shipping updates, password resets, and account alerts are automated messages triggered by a customer action. Done well, they build trust and reduce friction. Done poorly, they erode confidence in your brand.

Timing is everything. Shipping confirmations should go out the moment a package ships, and password resets need to arrive within seconds. When you do send, keep messages focused, lead with the most important information, use clear CTAs, and skip promotional add-ons unless they directly support the message.

A little personalization goes a long way in making transactional emails feel helpful rather than robotic. Use first names, include relevant purchase details, and suggest logical next steps. When urgency is needed, keep the tone respectful. Something like "We'll hold your spot for 24 hours" lands much better than "Act now or lose access." And since most transactional emails are opened on phones, single-column layouts, tappable CTAs, and high-contrast fonts are a must.
