Zola has a clean interface, and is easy to navigate. I have used Meruscase in the past and loved it, I think with some changes to make Zola more user-friendly like Merus, it would be a great program. There are a number of issues that make me think that this program was developed by someone who doesn't have to use it thus there are a lot of issues that frustrate me. For example, I cannot see another attorney's billing (when you have multiple attorneys working on one file, it is helpful to know what work has already done/been billed without having to send an email), to not being able to organize custom matter fields, and the lack of a save & copy feature on billing entries (often I am billing items with the same date, time spent, and billing codes, and it would be a real time-saver to be able to just hit copy and edit the billing description rather than having to re-enter the information over again). In addition, the ability to organize or sort custom matter fields requires administrative permission. You can also filter by unread messages only. Emails that are assigned to a specific matter will display a purple briefcase on the left side of the message so you can easily see which communications have and have not been associated with a matter. It has everything a law firm needs for accounting and client records purposes. But the expectations are far exceeded when you know you can call on their real person contacts for any help with the program at all. From accounting entries to email. What do you dislike about CARET Legal? The actual email viewing is clunky. I synced it with Outlook, and use it from there. Unfortunately, I have found that my Outlook folders, which match the Zola folders, have somehow disappeared and don't remain after a day or so. But at least the inbox keeps everything. The backend accounting, multiple time trackers, document automation - this program focuses on efficiency and being comprehensive. In starting a new law practice, I did not want to have to learn multiple programs and integrate them. I like how easy it is to sort through clients matters, CRMs, and calendar entries, and how easily everything can connect to each other to streamline getting information that is needed and organizing yourself. I wish that when uploading documents to a matter, it would be easier to upload only new documents (for instance, if a document is already there and you are backing up a folder from your computer, if it would recognize previously uploaded documents and not repeat them), and if when returning from searching for one matter, if you pressed backwards the name would remain in the searchbar or search history so you didn't have to retype it every time when clients with the same name have multiple matters.
