You can monitor any you want to monitor, you just write a small script and Zabbix will monitor it for you. For example, you can monitor how many users log in on your system by typing "who", just write bash script contain "who" as the external script and modify the value on Zabbix and Zabbix will do monitor. **What do you dislike about Zabbix?** Start from zabbix 2.4 you cannot clustering zabbix again, that make a problem when you have to monitor many devices. Using zabbix proxy is not enough, so you must doing some trick to balancing your zabbix servers. **Recommendations to others considering Zabbix:** just try and let zabbix work for you **What problems is Zabbix solving and how is that benefiting you?** devices monitoring, daemon monitoring, network devices monitoring etc. sending alets when problem occurs ### 2. Sometimes the errors are non-descriptive **What problems is Zabbix solving and how is that benefiting you?** Real-time monitoring of systems. Once you need to show some graphs on TV (big screen) you'll need to use some other (custom built) software to get graphs and/or data from zabbix **Recommendations to others considering Zabbix:** you can do everything with zabbix, but a ton of things you'll be able to do only with custom development. **What problems is Zabbix solving and how is that benefiting you?** Availability and performance on platform, collecting and graphing some business metrics as well ### 4. After a while it is fine. **Recommendations to others considering Zabbix:** It is a good program and has all the features you could possibly want. **What problems is Zabbix solving and how is that benefiting you?** The issue for which I use Zabbix is that I need a program to be able to fully monitor and analyze all the aspects of the network. ### 6. Zabbix review **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Zaki R. | Infrastructure Specialist, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2015 **What do you like best about Zabbix?** 1) Discovery of network, disc, filesystems, memory, perfomance metrics (in the fact you install their zabbix client on the computer and it auto fills it on the control panel) System Logs collection (which I was looking for in the change the last couple weeks). Define your screens of what you want to view, then it has a slide show portion that you can make several screens and it will rotate through on a web page. **What do you dislike about Zabbix?** it won't automagically figure out what to monitor, when to alert you and etc - you will have to think about what metrics you are interested in and configure them upfront; debugging leaves something to be desired. although with such a small environment help options like forum, irc channel etc should suffice easily. **Recommendations to others considering Zabbix:** Zabbix has a web configuration, while Nagios uses text files. While web configuration seems nice, it is a pain to automate like using Chef or Puppet. Zabbix has graphs and stats collection via SNMP or custom agent. Nagios don't. Even so, you must think if you are really looking for graphing support or just a robust monitoring system to tell you if something goes down. Zabbix is resource hungry. It uses a DB to store all the stats and configuration and this can grow exponentially depending on the number of hosts you are monitoring. Nagios works very fast and normally will not require the ammount of resources that Zabbix does. You can tune zabbix, of course, but it's more work to do. Its a great tool to use for server monitoring **What problems is Zabbix solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am monitoring inhouse servers, from server resources to JMX applications. zabbix can monitor using methods like snmp, simple network checks (is a port open ?), and it also has native agent for many platforms. as the agent is written in c, it has extremely small footprint (as opposed to bunch of interpreted scripts...). you can easily combine different checks on a single monitored host. note that you are not limited to monitoring servers, you can also add network devices and other things. ### 9.
